David Scott and Angelina Cortez are newer to being gemues (Genetically Mutated Humans) than most. Their experimentation was illicit and unasked for, and the other side of the coin as humans was only six years in their past. They are also more fortunate than most gemues, as they have personal wealth and a status that, while tainted, hasn’t been stripped from them. Together they help to create the Gemue Allegiance and have made themselves advocates for equal rights for their genus. The cause is a difficult one in a country where gemues are second class citizens and shunned by the public.
All their efforts – all their gains – are about to be undermined by a new threat. It seems gemues are popping up all along the coast that spread their mutation like the common cold. That in and of itself is dangerous, considering the political climate – worse still is the fact that the virus kills most it infects. Even those who survive are carriers and risk creating an epidemic of new cases.
David and Angelina find unlikely allies in Tom Martin, a doctor at New Fresno Medical Center, and his brother Steve – humans, well cyborgs really. Together the four of them are in a race against time to find cause and cure – before it becomes a plague – before it becomes public knowledge – before humans start a war with gemue-kind.
