A few years ago (pre-pandemic), my mother and I were joking about fake musicals (namely proposing unlikely source material for musicals). She proposed a musical based on the novel ShĆgun by James Clavell. I had checked out a book about flop musicals, and while flipping through it, I saw there was actually a musical based on it that came out in 1990. I told her this, and she was surprised, and also joked that the people who made it should have listened to her.
