So, tell me, what is on your mind at the moment? (Part 1)

Great post! I can sympathize with Martin. He’s obviously under way more pressure than we are to please his fans and especially the critics, particularly after so long a wait. They’re expecting something absolutely fabulous now, and if they don’t get it they’re going to tear him apart. ʕʘ﹏ʘʔ

I can sympathize with the tbr too. I have more than 200 books I purchased from Amazon over the years and still haven’t read yet. ヽ(゚Д゚)ノ

Thanks!

Yeah, I haven’t found any post where he says anything about feeling pressure, but I do have a feeling that he probably is somewhat. Perhaps he tries not to think about it.

I can’t imagine what it’s like though. Like you said, his fans and critics are waiting and they’re expecting something fabulous. He’s been struggling with the next book for years, even alluding to possibly never finishing it (apparently…but that seems to be a rumor).

lol, I think I have almost as many at this point, too :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s kind of nice to hear that Martin has a TBR pile. Idk why…but maybe it’s because famous people often feel kind of distant from us. They’re such awesome, so wow, that it almost makes them seem unobtainable and unrelatable. Then I read that he has an extensive TBR and can’t stop himself from buying books and suddenly, he’s a regular guy with a book addiction.

I can’t figure out how to say this better… He feels less far away. Am I making sense?

Alice follows the White Rabbit and arrives in Wonderland. Why the white rabbit though?

I wonder here.

Maybe…she’s chasing after adulthood but the adult is running from his youth while being overly stressed by his job? I didn’t say that in my blog post. I thought of it now.

Or maybe I’m reading too much into Lewis Carroll’s random choice of animal.

I’d always assumed that since he was making up the story for a real life little girl, that maybe she actually owned a white rabbit or perhaps wanted one, so he worked that into the story for her benefit. But I have no idea. Good question! /(=^ェ^=)\

I never gave it any thought lol but interesting.

Rabbits, among other beasts, have appeared in fairy tales and myths for centuries — and in British fairy stories, rabbits are mostly energetic and bold, trying their best to overcome difficulties. Having the White Rabbit dress in a waistcoat and concerned with running on time etc. affords him a certain Britishism, that would be familiar to young readers of the time, while also being symbolic.

As to why the White Rabbit is white… I think it’s to contrast the March Hare. The rabbit is prim and proper while the hare is mad — which is true to folk/ fairy story depictions of hares.

Hell has finally frozen over. Churro is finally writing a proper romance. Even better still, it’s gay.

I was becoming a little disappointed that AGI would not arrive by the end of this year, as I had hoped for at the start of this year. Then OpenAI publishes a new (restricted access) AI-software that could be considered an early prototype of AGI. So it’s not a complete letdown.

Oh, and the new AI video rendering software released a week or so ago are near photo-realistic, they just need to get the object physics right. Note the front wheels of the drifting car (yes, I’m too pedantic).

Speaking of white rabbits to follow…

See, I saw something somewhere about the real little girl owning a rabbit as a pet, or it could have been a cat, and that’s what inspired both the White Rabbit and the pet cat. But I can’t remember where I saw it and I can’t find any information that it’s true.

So, who knows

Alice Liddell also had two sisters and one of them could have had a pet rabbit as well. Again, can’t find information.

There’s a theory that Alice Liddell’s father was always late to work and he inspired the White Rabbit being late for something. Perhaps, as you said, it would be familiar then, to have the White Rabbit be that way.

Hmm, interesting. So to contrast the March Hare’s insanity and maybe, uncleanliness, the White Rabbit could have been created to represent sanity and cleanliness? But then I pose the question, which came first, the White Rabbit or the March Hare in terms of character creation? :smirk: If the March Hare came first, I don’t think the waistcoat rabbit had to have white fur.

Of course, we could all just be reading too much into random character choices

But now you’ve brought up the March Hare, it’s interesting how there are two rabbit-type characters in the story. Maybe Lewis Carroll liked rabbits? :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t remember that in the Matrix at all XD

But “White Rabbit” seems to be commonly used in movies as like codewords, secret project names, or secret identity names. I guess because it’s so iconic. And falling down the rabbit hole is a phrase often about going insane.

Interesting

I feel like crying.
It’s been so long since I actually read a physical book and stayed with it while enjoying the read. I didn’t need to read along with an audiobook, I just need to be in silence and not have a million things on.

I’ve struggled to stick with reading and to stay focused. I always dealt with my mental health and distractions, that I figure I would never read and enjoy it ever again.

It’s so refreshing! I can enjoy reading again.

It also drained me by reading too many chapters.

I am further into the book, I was just so tired after the fact and kept reading another book too.

I’m gonna use a timer for five and ten minutes of reading.

I overdid it. LOL!

Actually, you could probably search Pixabay for all their images from Dragonball, but I was just there browsing for possible book covers and not really looking for anime stuff. It’s weird what comes up when you do a search for “blond prince”. (♯^.^ღ)
