So, tell me, what is on your mind at the moment? (Part 2)

Oooh, I’ve seen people use those in a YouTube fitness challenge thing! I’m curious how much work you can actually get done while walking (obviously, they were just doing it for fun, so not really reliable reviews). When it arrives, let us know how it works for you

Molly Burke talking about Amazon being accessible, and that’s why she uses it, made me think about this thing that had been on my mind.

I know people mean well when they say “don’t buy books on Amazon. Get them at your local library“, but I can’t. I don’t have a local library nearby and even if I did, no English books. And not everyone has easy access to a local library anyway. It’s a kind of privilege to have that access, I think.

“not buying on Amazon“, in general, is also not doable for everyone, and also, some indie authors can’t afford to sell their book anywhere else. And not buying on Amazon will hurt their sales.

I get that people want to make a statement by boycotting (and I’m not saying I want them to not boycott. If they want to, go ahead, not gonna stop them), but I also think people should think about if anyone will be negatively affected before making a decision to not buy on Amazon.

Some people just jump to action before thinking (like burning a book written by a certain author, unpublishing a book from an online platform, or canceling a person for something) before looking deeper into the situation, or taking a breath and thinking about it first. And sometimes emotions get in the way and we act, and that’s fine. But I think we should all try to take a moment before acting if we possibly can.

Anyway, I wish big platform people wouldn’t assume that everyone has access to online options other than Amazon. Or assume that a local library or local secondhand shop is available to them.

It was way too hot to cook anything and it still is.

I just wanted cereal with milk.

How hot? Is it over 40 degrees?

90.

Woah, that’s hot enough to burn water.

Oh wait, that’s Fahrenheit. Never mind then.

That’s like 32 degrees. That’s a pretty nice temperature, a bit warmer than what I’d like, but nice and beautiful.

Yeah, I’m sensitive to the heat.

Plus the medication that I take makes handling the heat impossible.

Oh. Interesting. In that case, yeah, good on you for getting something cold.

My library notified me today that they won’t approve a purchase suggestion I made.

I’m disappointed, since I was really interested in this one.

I’ve had books not be approved before, and a couple of times I’ve re-suggested books with more success (so I might do it with this one), but it’s still a downer.
