Summary
His answer was confident, but Athilis decided to verify it when she could anyway. In the meantime, it didn’t look like there was a way to get the guy off their tail.
“Doubtless you’ve heard all about us.” Athilis said.
Dior laughed at that.
“Only rumors! And I’d like to hear it from your mouths. What’s new on the other continent? Why did you two decide to leave instead of sticking with your pals?”
Athilis tried to figure out a way to be friendly about this.
“That’s our business.” she said, giving up.
“Well, I have plenty of time. Can you tell me about the other continent for now? I’ve never been there. I heard Tatem is a harsh diety.”
Something about Dior was ringing an alarm in Athilis’ head.
Pearlgrass, however, obliged to tell Dior about Tatem’s continent. He didn’t seem to feel the overwhelming fishy smell wafting from… oh, right. That was an actual smell.
Dior was forward in a way none of the men from Pearlgrass’ village had been. Pearlgrass thought he wouldn’t be the sort of guy to let women tell him what to do, either.
Athilis was cold to him, of course, and Brett.
I’m just about ready to stab this guy. He’s definitely up to something. Brett said.
He hasn’t done anything. Pearlgrass said, feeling outvoted but, as usual, not willing to go along with the group.
He was an independent spirit, he didn’t have to just go along with what everyone else thought.
A small voice in his head reminded him that he’d decided to follow Brett out of the village in the first place.
That was different, he shot back.

Summary
I wait for the inevitable BOOM
For the ensuing smoke and flames
But it doesn’t come
The cockroaches desperately scatter, some duck behind large pieces of debris, some dash to the outskirts of the city, others make a bee-line for the great stingray star ships that hover above the torn skyscrapers. The Commander runs towards the grenade, arms outstretched as if ready to curl his scales around it and contain the blast inside his body.
Titan can rebuild them.
I stand my ground and watch the chaos unfold before me. The soldiers unfurl like flower petals away from me, its destructive core. Unlike them I have no fear, there’s no grenade in the universe that can pick me apart.
However, this isn’t a grenade at all.
Where I expect smoke and fire and fury, the small disk delivers something that quite exceeds my predisposition. It erupts into brilliant beams of bright green light that emanate from the ground like ripples on the surface of still water.
I drop to my knees as the first rips towards my center. It shoots sparks and strings of light as it passes over my body one piece at a time, searing the surface of my skin as it goes. I arch to the ground as it illuminates my thighs, pelvis, chest, then barely misses the little hairs on my nose.

And your book sounds so ethereal and cool! All those continents and mentions of gods…sounds like you have some serious worldbuilding going on
