Phhh!” he tumbled head over heels down the slope.
He got up, spitting out grass and rubbing an arm that had passed over a rock on the way.
“Meant to do that.” he said.
“No you didn’t.” Pearlgrass disagreed.
“Did too.” Dior moved back to their side.
“To make it clear, I’m not interested in you.” Athilis said, wondering if he’d take no for an answer.
“Are you already involved with this young man here?” Dior asked innocently.
Athilis nearly gagged.
“No.” she and Pearlgrass said at the same time.
“Oh. You and I seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot, so how about I make it up to you with some food?” he said, digging something leathery, dry and emitting a fishy smell out of his pack.
“We have our own food.” Athilis refused.
“Oh. It’s dried fish. Ever since I developed a taste for the stuff I can’t get enough of it.” Dior started chewing on the unappetizing looking fish.
“Time to trade backthtories, right? I wavv in a village thaa was going to war wiff anummer one,” he swallowed, “and it was broken up by a noblewoman. I decided to serve her, so now I’m making a map of the continent for her.” he said.
“What was the noblewoman’s name?” Athilis asked, in case she could verify his story later.
“Shelby. Lives in the big city, I might be able to convince her to help you.” Dior said immediately.
