Strange Things You've Had to Research for Your Writing

I’ve been staying on top of all the new discoveries centering on the giant squid. They got its genome decoded, did you hear?

I thought by “Lamp Table” you meant a table that can be used as a lamp. Or a table held up by lamps.

Not as strange as some of the replies here, but this is what I’ve searched recently:

  • can lightning crack stone?
  • the smell of fresh blood
  • what does blood taste like?
  • Old English dictionary
  • Old German dictionary
  • moaning while kissing

  • how to have a bath
  • how to use a bath bomb
  • what is a masochist
  • soldier ranks in order
  • synonym for (insert word here)
  • how fast can you eat a sandwich

Hehe, cutie :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:.

A question that had been floating around the forgotten realms of my mind, about one of my main characters,* that random reading / research answered: Can shirts or jackets (from tailored suits*) be modified to act as a bra, if a woman does not or cannot wear a bra? Apparently such clothing does exist in different forms.

*Author's Note

Throughout my works its implied that Karen doesn’t wear bras because they risk inflaming / blistering / tearing her fragile scars (or annoying the nerves beneath). Modifying Karen’s tailored suits to provide the otherwise absent support / protection was an obvious solution. But until recently I didn’t think it would be feasible in a real world scenario.

A more recent question I’ve been pondering is: Can animals detect when their owner is either currently or about to experience particular types of high stress (e.g. combat PTSD)? Apparently animals can be trained to do this. Service / therapy dogs, and ex-military dogs, are great in this role. However, in my current work the main characters learn to act as ‘service dogs’ for each other (no furry critters involved). Freyja does this by instinct, sometimes without the other characters noticing.

The meaning of flowers and characters is a must-have! lol Do it all the time!

Otherwise, in my most recent searches I have

  • the raccoons (if they’re dangerous, if we can keep them as pets…),

  • many inventions to know if they already existed in the 1960s (fun fact: the betadine didn’t exist yet )

  • And if a bullet can get through more than one body
