Yeah…the ONC thing was draconian. This, not so much, but both together shows they are going to be muscling against cross-platform publishing to better compete against other reading platforms.
The concern is whether we will get caught in the crossfire.
I managed to put out chapter 4 late last night after I just tidied up the ending and added one more conversation between my MC and his older sister, just to really emphasize the thematic elements of the chapter along with drawing more parallels between my MC and his father. I’ve got a solid idea about what I want to do in chapter 6 since it’s just been a habit of mine to put out small climaxes every 6 or so chapters, but I’m not sure what direction I want to go in chapter 5 since the big revelations in chapter 6 are much more plot related vs more character based ones. I’m probably just going to develop one minor character more since I felt like she’s barely had any presence in the story and just continue with the slow, slow-burn between my MC and his future love interest as they develop their unlikely friendship.
Okay, I am officially putting a lid on the idea to write or edit anything until the ONC is announced. I just don’t have the mental energy for it, I am working tomorrow because I am taking so many days off in February for Olympics, and the reading assignments are plentiful this week. I will have to put all the clubs on hold for a month starting on the first to write ONC and keep up with the Olympics.
I’m having a somewhat weird envie right now. It’s for a werewolf story I read close to 2 years ago, that I remember not being all that great–but I want to reread it. A comfort read.
I’ve got other things calling for my time, including housework, and kids, and THAT is what I want, a book that’s going to take me a while to find because it doesn’t really stand out except for this dang urge.
I distinctly remember not caring about this thing when I read it. And it’s the third day of it nagging at me like a sore tooth.
I need to get at least a chapter or two in then I should do some planning/plotting/outlining followed by coming onto WackyWriters to relax and take a breather.
I should only come to this site when I am fully done with my writing. I can’t get distracted too much.
I gotta fix the problems and oopsies that I’ve made on FictionPress due to rushing and getting impatient. I strongly feel like taking the posted story down and starting fresh. Sorry to the people who favorited and commented on my story.
Anyway, I am back to making slight changes and doing what needs to be done.
So, I shall be back on here later today. I plan to make this a daily thing.
I think I found a decent opening scene for Steady Ground’s revision (which is turning more into a rewrite by this point). It eliminates time skips completely, starts at the hospital, but continues to start light-heartedly before going into the darker and more serious issues. It might not be the most interesting opening ever though - reckless driving toward a hospital is probably overdone lol - but I think it’ll be good for my purposes of this revision.
Good luck! I’m aiming to do only one revision round where I add new content in. Otherwise, I will always continue adding and taking scenes from the book!
Who’s your audience? Find them and mingle. But don’t show up just once, drop a link and disappear. That’s plain spam.
If you’re only aiming at Wattpad, look for book clubs at first to get the first readers.
Try to get it on ambassador genre profiles - not their message board. Apply to get on their reading lists. That could take a while so don’t let that be your only strategy.
I think I’m gonna do the same tbh, I don’t plan on publishing this one I don’t think This was more my first book to complete and give me some needed practice.
