You get exposure. The Watty books sit on large reading lists for 2 years (the current year winner and the past one). So it is a good trickle exposure. You also get your star invite that I really like. ONC is for fun and exposure of stories between 20 and 40K, so it’s perfect. It gives you two shots per year at a major win, one short form, one—a novel.
From working this year with Wattpad Mentorship Bootcamp, I didn’t see many stories that hugged 50K. Most are 70-110K, and some are just like 200K monster-length.
Ha-ha, woke today to Lone Werewolf added to reading list called no-fiction. Yeah, baby, yeah! It’s an effing documentary about the lives of ordinary Russian werewolves. lol, I know, I know people re-use lists.
In other news, my husband is very supportive, because at least I know how to chose husbands, heh, but my pension would take a huge hit. So, I will think about it, because my next birthday is not till the end of September, and it gives me an extra measly point anyway. Will keep thinking.
Today is hopefully a writing day, though, of course, the garden calls too.
Imagine that you are a fae of high status, a lord or something to that effect. Your eye has just been shot out by a poor hunter girl, (no it’s not going to grow back) and she tells you without hesitation that if given the chance, she would kill and eat you in your wolf form.
Yeah, but I if you win, I don’t want them to force me into having my original copy be paid on the website when it comes out on Wattpad Books. The improved books copy is okay but it’s kinda unfair to have your original draft be a paid story.
I understand the exposure and I think that being on the list and on the website is good exposure and being a star is probably awesome but maybe I am just being angry at the commercialisation of Wattpad (yes which was an eventual given, considering the size of the website).
Oh, right. I thought that because your book ends up in Wattpad books for sale that your winning Wattpad entry would end up being Paid automatically.
And some of them don’t appear to be edited much as Original Versions (I’ve checked them out and compared them to the WP Books versions) because some of them have a Wattpad Books version and an Original Version within Paid.
I think they should just have the WP Books version in Paid or a new version in Paid and not the Original Version. They could take down the Original and put up the new one.
I agree. It seems like sometimes they just put the most popular stories into Paid without giving them a full edit. (I know some of them get edited and some of them get a new edition released but you know what I mean).
Lol. I see that a lot. My books make it onto a “smut expected” type of lists and I just hope they won’t be disappointed.
I realized one day that the description in one of my books contains an accidental innuendo that might be attracting an audience for the wrong reasons, but on the other hand, no one has complained so whatever. I’m keeping it as is.
In other news, I’ve been having technical difficulties and haven’t been able to write for a few days. Some of the letters on my laptop stopped working. After troubleshooting, the most likely culprit is the battery - someone online described the same symptoms as mine and their battery was swollen, pressing on the keyboard from the inside.
So I’m bringing it to the apple store today so they can check it. Wish me and my wallet luck.
There’s this one person who, every week or so, adds me to some new reading list with a bizarre name like “Rolex” or “Feel the pain,” and I can never figure out exactly what purpose this serves. I remember they read my first chapter and left the feedback of “you should replace directions like left and right with north and south because where left and right are depends on which direction you’re facing,” feedback some other people agreed with, and I admit things like that make me roll my eyes.
As far as pensions are concerned, if it’s real close, a year or even two isn’t a lot of time to work. But there is nothing guaranteed on life, so while the risk is low, it’s still the risk of passing up opportunities.
Long term:
If I am certain I can still keep my position in life while missing an eye, I’m going to hold my ground. If it affects my life, I’m going to break down…
Short term:
But there is a state of rage/madness that people don’t take into account in some cases:
For all that people bawl at the religious story of Sodom and Gomorrah, there’s a ton of details that people miss in that thing, only 1 of which I’m addressing right now: when the men were struck blind, instead of running away from the fight, they continued to grope around for the door of the house that held the two angels, Lot, and his still-unmarried daughters. The act of coming up against opposition that was stronger than them didn’t stop the madness, it increases the madness.
I actually have the same temperament, so I have to watch it. If I was put in a life or death situation, I turn toward fight more than flight. I would freeze when younger, and probably would still if I’m shocked enough, but flight is NOT me. It’s a latent rage.
I posted a new story to my profile and I am gonna update it on Saturdays now. I don’t really care how many reads it gets. I’m more into the votes and comments.
Still struggling to write anything. It’s really hard to feel passion for writing when so much crap has gone on with my life. Finally, got a working internet that won’t ban me due to falling under a classification. Guess, I give it more time and game. Not like I have any readers waiting for my stuff anyway.
That’s true. In this case though, the city skyline is being viewed from a penthouse so it’s hopefully more relaxing versus being in the middle of the crowd? As a NY native though, I know that feeling well.
I just hate crowds. I’m a very quirky and lively introvert.
For example, I say whatever the heck I want, here, and if I met people, I really wouldn’t change what I say, but give me everyone in the same room, and I’m shutting down, I don’t care how much I talk to them.
