Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 2)

Do you think Deepwater Horizon and the Persian Gulf spill were good for the environment?? or how about any of the other 1.3 large oil spills per year

I take it you or someone you love works in a nuclear plant? There can’t possibly be anyone today who’d defend the proliferation of nuclear waste unless they were profiting from it somehow…

girl… I live in Saskatchewan, we don’t have nuclear power.

here’s a website about nuclear waste produced by civil power plants. As you will see, nuclear waste is not only marginal (especially compared to fossil fuel waste), but also managed responsibly.

nuclear power has been fearmongered to death but it’s statistically cleaner and safer than most other options out there. You don’t have to like it, but you should understand that Chernobyl will never happen again and that clinging to the idea that nuclear power is environmentally destructive when our current energy supplies are way more destructive is a little backwards.

Hmm, ngl I’ve seen quite a few videos on people talking about nuclear power vs other forms

And some go in depth regarding safety and potential for the future as a power source, in terms of environmental impact

Interesting! I’m a little suspicious of objective information coming from a biased source like an association with an invested interest in nuclear power, but there seem to be environmentalists who also support it:

Welp, I guess you’re right that it’s better than any other form of energy we have now, but I think we should be looking for something better.

@NatilladeCoco I’ve never seen those videos, but they sound interesting. Do they consider nuclear power to be safer than others? And what do you think of them?

And bringing this whole conversation back to writing, I honestly think someone should write a book about this!

I’ll get back to you tomorrow! Rn I’m a little late, will brush up on what I know on nuclear power then ^.^

What I can say rn is that, there are potential benefits, but there also needs to be strict safety regarding nuclear power plants (and its use)

I’m going to be King of Pirates!

Oda-sensei, teach me your ways on how to worldbuild, please?!

Same thing for you as well, SIU, my main man!

God, I wish these two (SIU and Oda) could give pointers or something.

JUST GIVE ME A CALL!!!

that’s fair, i would be too.

of course, we should always be looking for something better. it’s just not always the best choice to stick with old options until The Best Option comes around, y’know?

i’ll give myself a deadline, i said.

it’s months away, it’ll be fine, i said.

it’s not months away anymore and it’s not fine

anyways, anyone know any good self-publishing places? i don’t really want to go back to amazon.

I have to get some writing in to while I have some YouTube playing in the background.

I am just still tried from earlier. Had a hard rough day not going to lie.

I hope I’m not being a busy body by jumping in lol I just wanted to throw a recommendation in there too as a fellow ADHDer. Timers don’t work for me. They’re like my alarm when I have to get up for work. I hit snooze like 3 times until I finally wake up. What a timer/app DID help me with, is getting to know my own habits better so I can try to work with my brain.

I discovered when working (not writing stories, but code), I tend to work/focus 2-3 hours at a time assuming I don’t have interruptions/people pulling me in different directions/meetings. So when I’m hyper focused, I realized I can get into something for at least 2 hours before I’m like okay, let me get a snack or do something else for a bit. I used this app that tracked what I was doing too, forgot what it was called. And it would tell me how much time I spent on social media, how much time I spent “working” whatever and it helped me understand how much I’m actually working vs when my brains starts to be like, work sucks, ooh my new web comic is out!

One thing I’m trying to work on is accepting that I can’t do things the way non-ADHD/Autistic people do things. My brain isn’t built that way, but it doesn’t mean I can’t find workarounds.

Like dishes. I HATE them. DESPISE them even. And the more stressed/burned out I am, the less I want to wash them. So sometimes what I’ll do is set a timer for like 2 minutes. Something small. And treat it like a race like okay, I’m going to wash dishes for these 2 minutes and when the time is up, I’m not doing anymore OR if I do happen to get into it, then I’ll keep going in 2 minute increments.

It’s like setting a timer to limit my suffering. But you can apply the same technique to anything. Like bribing yourself. Okay, work on this for 10 minutes, then go read your web comic.

I also tend to write more often when I somehow fit it into my routine. Like I know I have a lunch hour on week days, so most of the time, I’ll take advantage of that to write, but that only works for me because I work remote. :stuck_out_tongue: With that, it gives me a time limit, and gives me a reliable window for me to stick to it. Hope that helps. :+1:

Honestly I think the creator of One Piece plans most things, but other stuff he just makes it up as he goes. Like he takes advantage of the things that were never said. Like we never knew anything about Shanks’ past aside from Luffy’s part in it. And then all of a sudden, a movie comes out and he has a daughter? I was like… yeah okay.

Or Sanji. We didn’t get anything about his past beyond when he was with his chef sensei, and then enter the big mom arc I think? And suddenly there’s this “Vinsmoke” family, and Sanji has a last name and a whole history. I think he’s probably going to do the same thing with Zoro. I think he’s the only one we haven’t deep dived into his past – we actually don’t know much about him at all now that I think about it.

What I love though is how he somehow tracks all his characters and makes them all lovable or at least memorable, even villains. That’s skill. Like he’ll bring back some character you totally forgot about in episode 20 in episode 400 and you’re like, huh? Oh yeah, THAT guy.

You know, I would pay ten million (if I had it) to see an arc focusing on Zoro mysterious past leading up to meeting Kuina and her father.

I think I would cry and laugh hella hard if Zoro’s father is a person who nobody in the fandom would never ever expect…EVER.

Far as Zoro’s mother, she can either be some random woman who was claimed by something or get the Luffy treatment.

Because the only way Luffy would know anything about his birth mother is if he sits down and have a chat with his father, can’t see that happening for some reason.

Exactly!
There’s characters that just disappeared after having their spotlight in the first seasons, only to reappear once again much later.

And you’re right that it be those characters you’d think you would never see again…but here they are seasons and episodes later.

LOL!

I can relate so much!
I hate washing dishes too!

I also hate having a dirty room, but I also can’t stand cleaning.
It is the weirdest thing. I had a major panic attack from the thought of having to clean my room and how to tackle.

Yes, my room wasn’t clean, but I hate to say it cleaning my room even a little is a MASSIVELY overwhelming to me.

I do it for a few minutes to an hour and I am beyond drained afterwards.

Or switch to safer ones. There’s some with a way shorter half-life that can power a car or a neighborhood and aren’t as heavily cascading in the event of failure.

But we know from nature that if we leave this critical mass in the ground, it can become active on its own. So it’s not just megacorp inactivity, but nature is out to get us anyway.

Sorry for the late answer!

So most of the stuff I know is limited, I admit, though I’ve been fascinated by Chernobyl since first hearing about it. There’s a channel called Kyle Hill that covers a lot of nuclear disasters and radiation accidents (the stuff it can do to people is prime fuel for horror stories, I will say that!) He even went to Chernobyl and posted some videos about his experience (my favorite was the Chernobyl dogs, they are so heckin adorablee)

While there is a lot of potential in nuclear power as an alternate fuel source, it must be handled with a lot of care. Yes, there is people saying it is actually the safest energy source, since it has the lowest death count out of all sources, and that using nuclear power prevents more deaths from other energy sources. That does make it more appealing in a way.

Most of the stuff I’ve read compares it to carbon-fueled energy, so I’d like to see comparisons with alternate fuel sources. My opinion is that it does have benefits over what we have now (lower carbon emissions, less waste, etc.), but it seems quite costly to manage everything related to it (ensuring safety, waste management, etc.)

If there’s a more cost-effective & safe source, that’d be awesome for me :+1:

I have a funny feeling that chapter 1 of part 1 is going to be a bit long.

Update: I’m about to create the weirdest plot twist that not even I was expecting…

How I do that?!

Yeah that’s the most annoying thing with ADHD. Wanting/wishing to do all the things, but can’t get yourself motivated to do all the things. Like yes, I would love a spotless house. Do I want to be the one cleaning it? Hell no.

A general thought as I’m working on ONC. I feel like this novelette will turn out better as a first draft than my mobster stories. Why? Because it’s a more straightforward story. The slow burn is not as slow and I’m not introducing so many characters/terms readers have to remember like mob families and how they connect. Maybe this is a sign for said mobster stories that I’m trying to be too complex? Then again, Yakuza games get pretty complex and I adore them so :woman_shrugging:
