Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 2)

Minutiae editing still, but nearing the end of the 1st book.

Yeah I feel like the Mayans rushed the ending. SOA starts up slower than the Mayans as far as storytelling goes and as the seasons go on, the stakes get higher and higher whereas I guess when they were making the Mayans, maybe they knew they didn’t have that many seasons so they were like, let’s take this from 0 to 100 real quick lol. But SOA has more characters (I think) and connecting relationships, and because it’s a longer show, what happens to the characters, I felt like it affects viewers more. Just googled it. SOA is 92 vs Mayans 50. So yeah, a LOT less time to flesh out certain things.

I feel like they did Creeper wrong man. He did NOT deserve what happened to him. The ex-Fed girl was crazy about him though lol it was a little stalkery TBH. Like even when he was like F off, she’s all like, I love you! Let me help you! Girl ruined her whole career for that man just for him to give no shits about her and get shanked later.

What I didn’t like about the last season is that it isn’t clear what exactly EZ’s goal was as “the snitch.” At first, when they burned down that heroine warehouse, part of me thought it was EZ self sabotaging. That his goal was to take over and then sink them all or something? Destroy them from within? But as the episodes went on, it just felt like EZ wasn’t logical anymore. Like his decisions didn’t make sense.

I was so upset when they killed Angel and EZ’s pops. Yeah, he wasn’t a good man, but I was hoping at the very least, he and EZ would make peace before that happened. I’m glad Angel got away especially because of his son, Angel is the only family that boy has left, and at the same time, I felt like, Angel didn’t deserve freedom. He knew his brother was a snitch, and was kind of an A-hole to his pops/people in general but then he has a kid and I guess “changes for the better” but only after discovering his baby with Adelita was alive. Like that other chick he knocked up, he seemed happy at first but eventually was like, meh. I found it strange how he went from “being happy to having a son bc he wanted one so bad” to not caring at all about it unless it was specifically his first son.

Alvarez is an OG you’ll see in SOA. I like his ending. He got out before things went to shit. And he got to start a happier life with his family and new baby. Bishop, I guess the lesson there is that some people never change even when something good falls into their lap, they still screw it up. Even his side chick ditched him in the end and I was like, YOU GO GIRL! Don’t be no one’s side piece! Find a man who makes you #1!

Also, Coco’s sister! And Hope! Aaaaaah! Ahem.

And from what I understood about the ending, it feels like the whole MC dies, right? Whoever was in the clubhouse at the time. But that didn’t make sense either because if this ex-Fed chick really loved Creeper, she knew he loved that club. Yeah, he would’ve wanted the snitch killed aka EZ but for them to kill the entire MC? Creeper wouldn’t have wanted that. So that seemed out of character for her if she was truly trying to keep to Creeper’s wishes.

Anyway, I can go on and on about this show. I liked it but SOA for some reason feels like the better investment. Slower paced at first, sure, but you will love each and every MC member as the seasons go on versus in the Mayans, I felt like you didn’t really get to know every member enough to get attached.

I don’t know what the good news is, but whatever it is, you can do it! :muscle:

As for me, still editing my novel, stuck on another one, and writing fanfics to avoid the ones I’ve put on hold.

Ok so I’m editing my novel. At one point, the new mob boss is temporarily thrown into prison on charges that get dismissed/debunked within a few days. What should these charges be? Whatever it is, he didn’t do it lol I need ideas.

i was going to plow through a bunch of editing this week but

i broke my laptop. like really broke. like i hooked it up to a work monitor to save what i was working on but without a seperate screen it’s unusable and the repair place won’t have a replacement part in until thursday.

i guess i’m splitting preptober between editing and prepping. which is probably for the best anyways, i’d probably burn myself out of a project if i spent a whole month prepping it. and i can spend this week speedrunning the draft i’d put to the side. so it’s not the worst, but i’m still annoyed.

Hmm, he’s just inherited a business worth millions so he has no reason to commit theft. Other ideas?

OMG I did the same thing to my laptop a week ago! I can’t use it unless it’s plugged into an external monitor and I’ve been so pissed! :weary: Not having a portable way to write has def messed with my motivation. I feel your pain. :sob:

Election tampering. It absolutely does happen on a smaller scale (which is a regularly to-trial event), and the probability is there on the larger (which is why it was ruled impossible last election cycle but is comming back with articles from mainstream news sources as credible this cycle). The idea that mobsters would want to get involved in the political arena is old, but we’re now at the point where the corruption is commonplace no matter the party put in, so why would the mob care who is elected? Nobody campaigns againat them at all.

The good news is that my novel was approved for monetization on Campfire.

I’m still in shock a bit. It’s my first ever break.

Campfire is a very new platform so I’m not expecting huge readership but they’re planning to run an extensive promo campaign when they go live with their first paid books. Being in the first batch could be a big advantage. We’ll see how it goes. In either way, I’m excited to get a book out there.

I have a few weeks before it goes live so right now I have to tighten everything up from many different angles and there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

The book itself needs more editing. I need to get a beta (I posted an advert on Wacky, no bites yet). And I need to tighten up my Campfire project so it looks like it’s worth what people will pay.
I need to refresh my website.
I need new graphics.
I need to review my social media presence to ensure there’s nothing there I don’t want readers to find and cancel me for.

Grrrr. All doable but doing it all at once is a head doozy.

Congrats on this! That’s exciting!! Take it one thing at a time. I know it’s an overwhelming list.

Finally got to write a bit for Crimson Shadows, added some extra content on Ch. 2 and rewrote some Ch. 3 dialogue to (hopefully) make it more cohesive moving forward

Progress slowed down with classes, as usual, so I’m glad I chose to not publish so quick like last time XD do want to post it eventually though

Insomnia has me up 2 hours earlier than I’d normally wake up. Laundry in the machine, morning routine done, day off bc my dad was supposed to “visit” as he was passing through on a drive up north but he showed up last night for like 30 mins so I was like meh, I’ll take the day anyway AND I’m staring at the novel I’m editing. Trying to get back into that head space, that world, and this might be weird to say, but I feel like whatever I write now, it’s not going to be the same quality as the chapters I’ve already edited? Is that weird? Like how did I write that so good, past RFloetry inhabit my brain!

Well, I’ll try writing anyway even if it’s crap. I have the time for once.

Okay so cowboys acting as gangsters or gangsters acting as cowboys?

Aren’t they synonymous? They are to me lol though it depends on the types of gangsters. A random street gang of snot-nosed teens is going to be different from an organized crime family, especially a family of several successful generations.

The flair is different is all. And the rules differ a bit. Cowboys, hierarchy is determined by your shooting skills whereas a gangster, strength, which can also include shooting skills. Intimidation is a factor in both. Either they’re going to have a duel at sunrise or they’re going to duke it out with their fists in bar- wait. Cowboys will brawl in bars too.

Meh. Same to me. But cowboys have horses and cool hats? :horse:
