My shift at work this morning sucked that’s all I have to say

I am so close to finishing this story
. . .
So naturally my brain has gone all “thou shalt not write”

“Benzodiazepine is the best one of all the ones,” came a man’s voice from behind.

“The last of the least and get more of those.”

Eryn recognized Treeza’s voice.

“Yes sir, more fluffing stuff that goes in the top of the bottom,” said the man.

“I am ma’am. Take the metal and move it to your hand.”

“The metal is moved. You are ma’am.”

“Is sunshine powder of raindrop teatime in the open of the door?” came Abyssus’ voice.

“Yes, sir,” Treeza replied.

WHAT IS GOING ON XD This is probably the most ridiculous conversation I have ever written for Between Roses.

Omg, I’m in the same boat.

I’ve been working on my second draft. I was stuck for a moment, unsure how to arrive at the ending I wanted.
Then I got a revelation. I know how to fix this book now.

But I’m feeling burnt out.
I am sooooo tempted to switch projects. But how can I when I’m so close???

So I’m at an impasse - no mental energy to sit my butt in the chair and finish this book but also too much guilt to shelf it for another time.
So in the end I’m working on nothing.
I hate it.

If I don’t make any progress by the end of this weekend, I’m officially switching.

That might be for the best. Maybe it’ll trick the brain into working :joy:

I hope the Wattys likes weird stories.

Like, nice romance stories to the readers that are more like psychological horror to the characters :joy:

Another short story done, 1550 words this time

Got two weeks remaining before the contest ends, and exactly two more prompts I really want to work with, so think I’m doing good on pacing!

Hi All,

Anyone else struggle with titles? I feel like that’s almost as much of a struggle for me as editing. Also…deciding which tense on some of the stories. Do you guys stick to one for all of your books or does it change depending on the mood of the story??

Titles are definitely a struggle! I always want something catchy and symbolic and unique, something that sums up the story or the character, and… my titles always fall short. /weep ˓(ˊᘩˋ⋆)

Tense is never a problem. I always write in past tense, whether it’s first or third person. I’ve only read a present tense book once in my life and it drove me crazy. Yes, Sigrid Nunez, we have issues. (òᴥóし)

some gems from my final sweep edit today:

  • bottle spelled bottole
  • the phrase “their feets hit the asphalt”
  • ms word’s “inclusiveness editor” informing me that the term “black market” might be offensive and suggesting I use “underground economy” instead (leading me to giggle about ‘underground economy livers’ for a few minutes)
  • ms word uninclusively marking all the Cree words as incorrect.
  • my internet commiting seppeku the moment i hotspotted my laptop, even though it’s been running fine since the last rollover.
  • literal hours flipping through the thesaurus. by hour 5 i decided ‘look’ and ‘away’ were just going to have to be invisible words.

my butt is sore lol i’m going to bed.

It came out… for one whole minute today :open_mouth: !

In other news, I think my story is definitely going to get a mature rating. I’ve written my fair share of sex scenes in this. But they all have a point, it’s not just random smut for the sake of it. It would be hilarious if it got anywhere in the Wattys, but we’ll see.

I’ve switched my mind about this story’s tense 3 times now. I hate editing :face_with_spiral_eyes:
