Finished chapter 4 of draft two to Project Succession.
Man, that felt so great to do! Now I am on chapter 5, feeling great for the next chapter.
Slight side note: I really need to figure out which direction I want to go with this story, in terms of a series or stand alone novel. I am trying not to ponder that far ahead, because I am just on draft two of book one.
I’m balls deep in the Igorteo saga (no pun intended). I’m working out the direction of the stories that aren’t related to the main one of Igor and Juan. And I am also working out the main Igorteo. This is gonna be cool isn’t it?
Finished Chapter 14 and passed my milestone goal for this year! Now I’ll be shooting for another 30k-40k words next year (not including any side projects)
I’ve also figured out a clearer path to take the plot in, which is big for a pantser like me XD
Does “dry bar” mean something different in Ireland? Where I live it means a bar that doesn’t have any taps, so you have to pour liquor from bottles instead. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯
I may have to rethink my magic system in Alagossia and overall. I am noticing that I am overdoing it with the magic system and trying to weave it into the story. I am making it too hard and complex, something I struggle with to begin with.
I am wondering if Alagossia needs a magic system in the first place. The same applies for my second world. I still want fantastical elements, but either low to zero magic. I love fantastical elements, but the magic is driving me crazy in my story.
My air based magic was great but leaning too hard trying to be hard. It was exhausting and annoying. Even as I was writing Project Succession, tossing magic in there was hard and wonky to navigate in.
I can get better or just not use magic at all and still make it science-fantasy.
Maybe I need a softer or low-type magic system, if I keep misting. I am trying too hard with it and making that the main focus, which it needs to be very far in the background.
I NEED to focus on the characters, their story, the world-building, the lore, and the many stories crafted in the world. The magic system was NEVER the main focus in Alagossia, it’s just there in the background.
I just wanted to share this after realizing things sooner.
The stories I should be writing: action adventures with drama and comedy of people (or person) traveling the world learning everything about the world, having a grand old time as they face their demons and more. Where the world-building is heavy, the magic system is intense, and the lore is expansive, yet the characters are engaging, interesting, everyday people in extraordinary situations, even if they hail from wealthy backgrounds or not. Somebody (or some people) saves the day in such unique and appealing ways. I am escaping to another world to forget the real world for a while.
The stories I am writing: mysteries in a fantastical setting that I would NEVER read in my lifetime. Where I am focusing on deep and heavy things that I normally don’t give a damn about at all, unless I am reading something like that…randomly. No action, no adventure, far too much drama, little world-building, little magic being used and uncertainty. I DO NOT read mysteries or stories with mysteries in it often or at all. So, why write something I don’t enjoy reading or caring about?
I am tossing Project Succession for good. I can come back to it different years from now, if I care to remember.
