If the concept of creative writing was a scent, what would it smell like?

Do you write zero drafts first, then edit a first draft and write some more?
I genuinely can’t tell what draft of Project Succession I am working on.
Is it the third draft or the fourth draft?
I honestly cannot tell at all.
Finished chapter one of Project Succession’s draft four.
My lower back hurts and I can’t write anymore.
I did start chapter two, but I’m going to write more tomorrow.
Share: After seeing that the books I wanted to borrow from the library were all checked out and honestly it was my fault for not picking up my holds on time, twice, I decided to give Libby a shot.
And man do I wish I used this sooner. I have access to so many ebooks, and the best part is, you can use multiple library cards with it! It’s amazing that I can still access another library system thanks to the library in my college town in addition to the Chicago Public Library catalog, especially when the latter has a much longer queue for certain books.
I had my laptop open for a while as I binged an entire novel in about three hours. Best part? While reading, I managed to get enough writing inspiration to finally wrap up that chapter I’ve been stuck on.
I think my roommate uses those for audiobooks. Nothing against audiobooks, but they’re personally not for me. One thing I like about reading is being able to use any voice while reading the text, and hearing another person narrate it just colors the story in a way I’d rather not have. Plus I’d rather listen to music or sports in the background.
Oh, and I had another Write Night yesterday! I recognized someone from a previous meetup, which was great. Had fun as usual.
Progress: I finally finished Chapter LIII of Blood Will Tell! I was worried about how I was going to finish the second half of the chapter without adding filler or potential plot holes, but luckily I overcame it.
I’m also about halfway through Chapter LIV. Act II has lately been focused more on digging up Edin’s past, and I do think including a scene where he kills a beast on the job and how his mental link with Damon affects him will be a welcome return to that aspect of the story.
I’m not quite sure what I want to write for Chapter LV, though. I’ll figure it out. All I know is that I have to wrap up Act II soon.
Lately yeah, it helps me not get discouraged that it’s all trash. Also helps with my crazy short attention span. If I start to not feel it or feel like I lost the plot, I’ll go back and edit some. Then once I know the version I want to continue from at least partially exists I’ll write some more.
I’ve been taking it easy with the writing because I am still in slight pain.
Though I really need to get some reading in and some relaxation as well.
I am still on chapter 2 unfortunately.
so its been interesting having Ms Apex cross-posted. I actually saw today that its getting a few views on Wattpad. The views on Scribblehub have been a very good amount, but not too consistent as i didnt post anything yesterday its been stuck at 488 views after being up for four days question mark
i did a quick edit and added another part and im now at 574 for views it seems like its stuck for the moment
No writing just relaxation. ![]()
im just in one of those relax moods, i really want to churn out the words though
My lower back is bothering me a bit. So, I wanted to take it easy.
Trust me, I want to write too.
I finished chapter two of Project Succession’s draft four.
Now, I am going to put a pause to this story for a bit to focus on two other stories that I want to write.
Finished the short story at around 6.3k words!
I started reading The Graceling and the first line isn’t at all remarkable or memorable, and the first few chapters are stuffed with so much lore, that I got bored reading about places I didn’t care about yet. Katsa, the MC, is so emotionless despite the fact that she does smile and laugh at things. I really feel like I’m reading book 2 and there’s stuff I’m missing.
So, it got me thinking, this book started the story in, what felt like, the middle of book 2 despite The Graceling being the first book in a series.
And I thought about my YA Fantasy story where I’m not sure where to start it anymore. And the more I think about it, the more I’m not sure there’s any point in starting Pinti’s story with her in the clan if she’s just going to leave it later and the other characters are just going to either die off or disappear.
Why show that when her clan life (short-lived on the page) is not the point of the story?
I’m beginning to think I should go back to my roots when I first wrote the story. The very, very first time I created Pinti and she didn’t even have a clan. All she had was a purpose.
Pinti is traveling alone to find an ancient magical thing to free her kind. And during her travels, things happen to her that link her to her past. She might also have flashbacks or meet familiar faces.
I think that’s what I should do. Start with her after she had left her home behind and see how it goes.
