Share: I’m already sixteen chapters deep into Eragon at the time I’m writing this. I can definitely see why my ex was reminded of it when he read Blood Will Tell, and reading it has helped me with writing inspiration! There are a few things that I already like about the book, and while I don’t want to copy it, it has certainly helped me with figuring out how to shape my story.
I also may or may not have teased an online friend for starting A Song of Ice and Fire ahead of Lord of the Rings. He may or may not have text-screamed at me, yelling that the Winds of Winter would be finished and that he would “throw hands” with G. R. R. Martin’s corpse if that ended up not being the case. That was hilarious.
And this, my friends, is why I almost never start investing my time and emotions in a series that’s incomplete
Ask: While I know there are self-published authors who’ve taken books off Wattpad before publishing them, are there any folks here who’ve kept the same story on both Wattpad and Amazon or other platforms? And I mean keeping the story on Wattpad in full, not giving out free samples of their published book.
This is still a long way out for me, but I really don’t want to take books off Wattpad if I can help it. My plan is to keep the very first draft on Wattpad and self-publish the final draft. I don’t care about the money I could make from self-publishing—I just want to get my story out there to as many readers as possible.
Progress: I’ve published Chapter LIV! I managed to keep the chapter to around 3K words instead of longer than that, woohoo
and I also ended the chapter satisfactorily, as in, it’s not as big of a cliffhanger as the ends of some other chapters. I’m once again excited for my story’s direction and how people will react to it.
So in LIV, we get another interaction between Edin and Damon, which happens while the former is at work. And the seeds of more questions are planted as Damon implies that the Illenræns mistreated their mother. Then in the second half—or third, rather—we start a tour of the city’s archives, where public records are also stored.
I am so hyped. The next chapter isn’t as hard to write now, especially now that I know what exactly to put in it. I’ll have Edin going through his mother’s records, asking more about his past, and his conversation at night with Damon. This is going to be so juicy.
I might have to write another chapter from Arden’s POV soon, though. It’s been quite a while since that last happened. The question is how I’m going to do that.
