I do have Scrivener on a Mac. I wonder if that’s what’s given me the bad impression? 
Maybe the PC version works better.
OMG I need this! I end up doing this by creating a separate doc where I just write dialogue chat style. Having to figure out dialogue while adjusting everything in between can be distracting. I had no idea there were features for this or that other people did something similar.

Scrivener is really cool. It’s worth digging around to see if it has what you need

Mac and Windows are mostly identical, though Mac gets updates (often years in advance) before Windows. Afaik, they are both the same version right now, with the biggest difference being in the lack of name generator spreadsheets, though don’t quote me on that lol I don’t have a Mac. And ofc, Apple AI on Mac, which isn’t present in Windows.
Yeah! There’s pretty much everything you could ever need in Scrivener 
Which parts of it did you dislike? If it’s just the learning curve, that is unfortunately just ~something~ you’ll have to deal with. My only advice for that is to mentally block out everything that isn’t the corkboard, the editor, and the binder. Those three things are the important parts, everything else is just “nice to have”

I think it’s just breaking everything up into smaller pieces and folders. I don’t naturally write like that. It’s one continuous document. I think it could probably be handy when it comes time to edit and to organize in that way, but it’s just too much complexity when the goal is for me to get something coherent to completion first, even if it’s a terrible first or second draft. It almost feels like the bells and whistles are more of a distraction for me.

You can also just open a blank document and then write in a wall of text. You don’t HAVE to separate it.
and then you can store character info and research in the same place. It’s rly what u make it.

As LadyoftheRiver says, you don’t have to split stuff up! :> If you don’t write in chapters/scenes, then you can 10000 percent just write in one document. There’s still tools there that can help, even if you ignore the binder/corkboard element. Hell you could even hyperlink parts that you need quick access to in the future.

About to hit 60k words for the month so far. The only issue is that this story has gripped me unlike any of the others, and I just want to keep expanding it?? Like I’ll get book one done and I just knoooow I’ll want to write book 2, but that does n o t fit in with the publishing plans. Eughughguhguhg
