progress for month of June thus far: 13.5k words on my first draft wheeeeee
and i’m only barely at the first plot point, my estimate for act 1 would be around 15k ish words wheeeee yayyyy
at this rate i’ll have a full-length novel (or at least a chunky novella) that I can actually publish or query to agents eeeeeeep
i’m also rly happy because I finally got scrivener! and with it I got a writing method that truly works for me 
I allow myself to write in snippets, then organize those scenes into chapters. no more writer’s block for me hehehe
most times I write linearly, but sometimes I do jump ahead or into nowhere at all! depends on my mood :))))
Currently juggling my novel project with a short story for funsies, seems like short stories somehow help motivate me to continue my longer works
Maybe I should give Scrivener another try. I still have it on trial, but like planners, it’s something I try to use and just don’t stick with. I end up back to writing in Pages or Word and having messy docs or multiples. 
I’ve been more focused on creating tools for writers than actually writing. 
Which I’m hoping will enable me in the future to have a side hustle so I can actually have time to write? Or maybe I’m a masochist.
On the bright side, I finished reading two books in the last month! That kind of counts as “progress”? 
It does have a decent learning curved but once you get used to it it’s peak.
I’m someone who is instinctively very organized because it helps my brain work, but if you’re less so it can be a challenge
I mainly use it because it helps me brutally murder my perfectionism. Cuz I can reorder things more easily and jump around I don’t have the urge take the first draft the final draft and it’s amazing.
There’s tutorials online for lots of different ways to organize things, so see if you want to give it another try. Maybe it works for you 
Or maybe, as I like to call it, simply productive procrastination?

Well, the weather here in the UK is awful. I can’t do any work because my PC just overheats the second I so much as look at Blender (I’m in the red zone!)… so I’m back to gunning for 1mil words this year. Only, uh, 870k more to go! Light work, I’m sure.

Haha it is! I tried it out well over a decade ago and I haven’t used anything since. I’ve attempted to, but there’s no other software that’s as simple or as versatile. Like, what do you mean [insert other app] doesn’t have a built in name generator or dialogue focus or scene cards or… you get the idea

Wait, wait, wait… Scrivener has a built in name generator? What do you mean by dialogue focus? Clearly I’ve watched the wrong YouTube video showcasing the wrong capabilities in this app. 
No writing. Still reading. Wrote some dialogue for an AU idea (a second AU when I still haven’t finished my second drafts of both novels, yay!).
I just wrote a full story story about a war on Mars. It’s a fantasy series, by the way.
My version of Mars is only like 90% dead, there’s still some water in the north but the south is entirely a desert, full of dead cities of sandstone with Egyptian aesthetics and sandstone portals.
Edit->writing tools->name gen. Iirc, the Apple version got gutted and you need to make or download spreadsheets with names on to use it. You can generate by how common the names are, gender, etc.
Dialogue focus dims everything (up to 100%) that isn’t dialogue, so your conversations can flow more naturally 
I’ve been meaning to make a full Scrivener course for years… and just keep forgetting, lol
