She reached around his neck and hugged back. “I love you.”
“I love you more.”
“And I love you even more,” she said, her voice cracking.

“While soon, Biggy Boo,” she said, her voice down a pitch. She waved weakly. It hurt him to leave her, but he couldn’t take her on this dangerous journey with guns, slaves, and drugs. He peered over the banister. No parent in sight. He slipped down the stairs and out the door for the last time in a while.

Damn, it’s been a while since I’ve last shared an update 
but I’m here to share some of the many things that have happened since then!
Rant 1: I seriously don’t understand why this one guy is trying to frame my fast reading speed in a negative light. Yes, I’m talking about the then-thirty-year-old man who’s now a thirty-one-year-old man. A friend and I went to his birthday party, which went well overall, but I really didn’t like how he started talking about my reading speed to other people in the context that he was giving (and leaving out). He was framing it as if I was purposefully reading through his work at lightning speed during reading exchanges while making him read a lot more in comparison. I had to again defend myself by saying that I was literally trying to read as slowly as possible—not my fault that you’re a slower reader than I am. Not to mention the fact that his main body of work—aside from screenplays—consisted of short stories, which were obviously going to be faster to read through than an incomplete high fantasy novel.
One of my other friends has told me that she’s stopped going to write nights because she doesn’t want to see him ever again. And well, I’ve pretty much stopped too. It’s a shame because I really want to go to meetups again, but I also don’t enjoy his presence anymore.
Rant 2: WHY THE HELL HAS WATTPAD FORCED USERS TO LOG IN TO READ STORIES? I mean, I suppose I can see why, but I find it highly annoying. I just want to share my stories without having to create PDFs, force people to create Wattpad accounts, or use Google Docs 
Rant 3: I HATE GOOGLE DOCS.

Share: One of my write night friends was going on a work trip, and she asked me to send her my story so that she could listen to it on her flight (she has a text-to-speech software on her device). Since she was a friend and someone I trusted, I sent her a PDF of all my completed chapters so far. I mentioned this to another write night friend who was also reading my story, and he got funnily competitive about it. He was shocked to hear that the first friend was already on page 315 out of 400-something and said that he had to lock in
I met up with the first friend recently because she wanted to discuss my book with me. It was a fun discussion! There was a lot I couldn’t say because it would be a spoiler, but some of her suspicions were on the right trail, and others were… less so. I find it interesting that she was confused by Arden’s characterization in the book, which I guess makes sense, considering that I think I unintentionally changed the way I saw her myself over the course of writing this book. She was still very interested and hyped for the next chapters, though! She also liked how I subverted one of her big expectations in Act I and is enjoying Act II more than Act I overall.
Oh, and she also took literal notes in one of her notebooks while she was reading my story, which was something I didn’t expect. Like damn, she was taking it more seriously than me 
not a bad thing, to be clear!
Will have to organize more reading exchanges whenever I have the time.
Progress: I have written, uh, a few hundred words over the span of two months. I still haven’t finished Act II

So my husband was let go 2 weeks ago and I was just let go on Friday, so weeh! Neither of us have jobs and we have to somehow figure out how to keep the roof over our heads! Yay!
I mean, we can last a handful of months, but yeah, with the holiday season not as far as we think, we want to avoid being unemployed during that time. It was impossible for me to find anything during the holiday season.
Anyway! I’ve been writing notes on scenes I’ve yet to actually write out in a notebook of mine. The gears still turn. I just haven’t been able to write much because the job was burning me out. Now being unemployed is burning me out. I can’t win!
I have time now though. Once I’m done processing the BS I’ve just dealt with, I want to go back to writing my second draft of my prequel so I can finish it and finish the second draft of the novel that comes after.

true! The thing is that the tea bar where the meetups are hosted has rather narrow spacing, so it’d be hard to ignore him without making it awkward. It also doesn’t help that my commute home from work is two hours long, I’ve been rather tired as of late, and my other writer friends haven’t really attended them either.
This is also the same tea bar that was super rude to me when they wanted to close early—which itself wasn’t the problem, it was just how they communicated—so it’s not long I’m missing out on drinks either.
Maybe I’ll return if everything turns out fine. My future is still uncertain after all

so I’ll have to pass on Ellipsus considering the signup requirement. I think I’ll stick to making PDFs for my non-Wattpad friends.

So, a few updates.
Share: I had a combined dinner party and reading session with some friends! I brought a few ingredients to her and her roommate’s apartment to make some red curry dumpling udon—which turned out pretty well 
—before moving onto the reading part of our hangout. I suppose I wasn’t clear enough, but I was intending for her to read my story during the reading session, and lowkey when I spelled it out to her I felt bad for not making it more obvious but it still went well! She listened to my book via a text-to-speech software on her phone; I had brought a borrowed copy of Dreadful Acts by Philip Ardagh to read; her roommate was reading another book titled The Spear Cuts Through Water, which apparently might be Filipino-inspired
At the end of the reading session, we discussed my book for a little bit. Here are a few non-spoiler-y points she had:
- She found the brunch scene interesting since it was a “rich person thing” that was treated as normal in the narrative. She was used to reading books with protagonists who were either normal or “down on their luck,” so seeing my rather wealthy main characters treat the lavish as something ordinary was something she wasn’t really used to (not in a bad way!)
- She also said that I was really good at making even the mundane stuff seem interesting
- There were times she wanted to shake my protagonist, Edin, because she thought he was being dumb, naïve, or willfully ignorant to quote her, “You just keep taking things at face value!” I did tell her that some characters were written to be smart, and well, he was not one of them
- And back to the brunch scene, which involved Edin and the deuteragonist, Arden, she commented on how the two had very different thoughts throughout the whole scene—“Those two are not on the same page.”
- She also related to one of the side characters when he said that he keeps on forgetting that Edin and Arden are, in fact, the same age, not twelve years apart
The three of us ended up going to a vegan restaurant to grab a late-night treat. On the way there, I asked her if the protagonist gave off vampire vibes, and I was somewhat expecting her to say yes.
My dudes, you have no idea how relieved I was to hear that she thinks Edin does not give off vampire vibes 
which was a first. What was also a first was her saying that Edin gave off werewolf vibes 
He is neither, he is just a doubly-cursed human being
She also made this comment about how in my story, the friends that make up Edin’s core friend group are all side characters, whereas Arden, the deuteragonist, isn’t a part of that friend group, as opposed to other stories where the protagonist’s friend group also make up the main cast. “It’s kind of like how you see other people’s friend groups, like you know your friend, and you know your friend’s friends exist.”
Oh yeah, she’s now on page 347 out of 433-and-counting. I should be writing more but writer’s block has been hella bad as of late
Progress: I have added, uh, a few hundred words to the chapter I’m currently trying to finish. It’s still not yet finished

You ever spend so much time looking for character names and how to write romance that you start getting spammed with Pampers and Tinder ads. Then wonder why the algorithm is so selective? Like where’s all the fun disturbing stuff I look up? I want some like messed up true crime show ads or a course on cryptozoology after hours of reading those articles. Not here’s stuff for the baby you aren’t having because you’re too busy researching serial killer stuff to actually download Hinge lol.

Wrote a few lines here and there. Mostly notes as I re-read what I have of my second draft and try to keep the faucet going even if it’s a trickle rather than a stream.
I have an interview tomorrow morning! It’s just a 3 month contract, but I hope I get it. Wish me luck! Pretty sure financial security will help with the uh, being unable to write part. I hope.

So true! This is me with the Wattpad algorithm—they conveniently ignore that a good chunk of my reads are YA fantasy, adventure, and similar stories with little-to-no romance, but as soon as I read anything more romantic I get even more romance shoved down my throat, as if they haven’t been doing that already
