The Big Thread On How To Get Reads (And Readers) - Wattpad, Tapas and More Coming Soon

Agreed. I’m wary of Twitter and Tumblr because of the ‘hellsite’ names and the Twitter debates too. But I also know it’s really the only way to get your name out there.

Yeah I actually knew very little about Tumblr’s reputation because I didn’t use social media growing up much at all. I used it at the first time at 25, after they blocked all the porn. So my experience has been very positive, with a pretty chill crowd of supportive people. I’m at 2500 and I’ve never even gotten a trolling negative comment, which I know is very out of the ordinary. Some people can get really bullied by the anons. But, I think it mostly depends on what you write and what crowd you engage with.

Cool. ^^ I write high fantasy. You?

A bit of everything! Mostly Sci-fi and Fantasy, though I’ve little pieces in Mystery, Romance, and “Action-Adventure” kind of genres too. My favorite to read is fantasy though! I love the interesting ideas and magic that people come up with in fantasy!

Cool. I LOVE fantasy and far too many magic systems to fit into one world.

This needs a bump. Potentially a pin.

Hey there, @Midnightcupofnoodles!

Your thread looks like it’s better suited to #writing-improvement:writing-resources, so I’ve gone ahead and moved it there for you!

I disagree, someone can like you but if they don’t like your genre, it won’t make them read you story.

Hey guys, just got the time to rework on this. If anyone has insights on Royal Road/Inkitt or know people who use Royal Road/Inkitt, hmu. Good, bad and ugly.

Royal Road is super picky/critiquey if you don’t have an isekai/fantasy story while Inkitt has a toxic reader base and questionable competitions. All of that is rumour though.

I think it’s really popular for video game/isekai type reads and get really pushy if you don’t write that. I write high fantasy which isn’t exactly the genre they want but my 5k chapters might do better on there. But the interface…is really not my thing.

:eyes: what?

Red flag on the play.

I’m going to assume you’re not trying to be a dink but what it seems like you’re saying is that a table an object is equal to a persons gender which… What?

I would edit this because unless I’m crazy you’re breaking rules 2C 2E 2G 2.L.vii 2.L ix.F with this sentence.

I might be wrong. I don’t think I am.

He’s talking about Royal Road and what kind of books they like on that site. He hasn’t said anything offensive. He’s saying that at RR the readers don’t care about gender fluidity. I know nothing about RR so I assume he’s telling the truth about them. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯

Ah yeah no. See for people who are CIS gendered its easy to say that but you can’t tell someone gay and gender-fluid being compared to a table or that mockary of the letter system is valid specifically anyone who has a Twitter can see publishers and readers are looking for that representation specifically pitmad. So readers care.

The easy way out is to keep publishing on Wattpad, but split one chapter into 2-3 parts with shorter word counts.

Yeah…I don’t like doing that. I might if I get regular readers again but for now…nope. I like my chapters.
