Name a character in your story that installs fear in many, many characters, whether it is played for laughs or played for drama.
Whenever this certain character appears, the other characters including the main character becomes highly scared and uncomfortable. Like being around that person is like a death sentence. AND NO THIS CHARACTER DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE ANTAGONIST/VILLAIN/SOME MONSTROUS BEING!!!
If the MC is the dreaded in question, are the other characters viciously scared of them?
Also, this is a trope and I want you to search for the trope on TvTropes.
Here is the link:
Whether it is meant to be comedic, dramatic, or whatever, this character has to be defined by the amount of fear they they cause the other characters.
Do you have a character like that? What caused this character to be so terrifying to the other characters in your story? Would this character want to be known as a highly scary individual to others? Was it intentional? Accidental? What made this character the most fearsome in your story?
In my first two stories, the Dreaded One would be Yasmine. In my current story, only the foolish and suicidal would cross Hannah.
Yasmine is introduced as a Bedouin assassin, and the former girlfriend and protegee of Zorik (an Israeli Golani Brigade lieutenant turned mercenary). Yasmine is considered to be Zorikās only equal in combat and, on her good days, a borderline-psychopathic killer. However, Yasmine is not completely unhingedā¦She only hunts monsters ~ Zorikā¦
Hannah is the adopted daughter of Karen (an Israeli billionaire heiress), and Hannah serves as an officer in the IDF Intelligence Corps. Hannah is hyper-protective of her adoptive family, and of Karenās mercenaries / housemates, and she has zero tolerance for fools. Anyone suspected of being a threat / security risk to Hannahās family are usually shot on sightā¦Hannahās casual / lounge-lizard attire consists of an old singlet, boxer shorts, and a thigh holster for her custom suppressed Jericho pistolā¦
Oh, Freyja might be a satirical Dreaded One. Freyja is polite, shy, timid, and fearful of upsetting or hurting her companions. She is also comically powerful and clumsy. Freyjaās baseline strength and endurance would equal that of a veteran commando, and she has no idea of how to control or use it. As Krista noted, attempting to teach Freyja how to wash herself is like ābathing with a skittish Orcaāā¦Krista also gave Freyja the nickname Little Miss Terminator for the same reasonā¦
Itās never that straightforward. I donāt spell it out from the MCās perspective as much as I should, but thatās Rachaelās reaction to her own mate, and heās rarely done a thing to instill fear. But thatās a trauma reaction more than Nathaniel being an issue.
But absolute terror is Daniel towards his nightmare.
Terrifying ladies who were trained to fight by men. On reflection, my formidable male characters are rarely refereed to as a source of dread. Their combat abilities often inspire admiration and respect from their friends (or perpetual teasing from Krista). Their enemies donāt live long enough to experience any emotions like dread.
Only a few in the world can fight like Yasmine, and none can match Zorikās strength ~ Karen. Are the mean girls keeping the poor Commando up past his sleepy time? ~ Krista berating Dov (former Australian Special Forces).
In my story, Nirvana is considered an absolute The Dreaded, since she is an mega-ultra powerful goddess with a complex personality and other issues/qualms. Besides, Nirvana, her daughter Renna and the race of people that Renna hails from are also like that, though to be fair it only happened because of Rennaās actions. Renna was The Dreaded because she was a formidable warrior and a scary person to face on the battlefield and she is a tough-as-nails leader with a queenly facade.
The Firstlings, the Sovereign, and Grand-Lord are also viewed as scary as hell and viciously intimidating to other people.
EVERYONE PLEASE WECOME ETHER, THE DREADED QUEEN OF ANACHRONATA!!!
TW: Murder
she is an all-powerful queen who won the throne by getting the king of the realm to cheat on his wife with her (despite the wife being pregnant) to get pregnant with the kingās illegitimate child and be able to claim the throne after she kills the existing queen.
unfortunately for Ether, the existing queen has immense trust issues, which make her very hard to execute. she has a lot of protocols on her and the kind, so the only way to get to her is through her child Lara. She tricks Lara into trusting her and gets her to unknowingly give her mom something (tbd) which will kill Minaan (the Queen). Lara agrees initially (because sheās 4-ish, sheās gullible, okay?)but then she finds out that the thing she has to give to her mom is poisoned and refuses at the last minute. Ether hence resorts to blackmail (of some sort, also tbd) to give her mom the thing she has to give her anyway. Lara gives it to her mom and kills her, gets framed for it, and gets exiled:sparkles: what a great villain. yay.
I have a character whoās known as the Prince of Light and Shadows whoās kind of the boogeyman of my story. Heās known to kill anyone who traipses into his territory and terrorizes the city.
Meanwhile, heās just chilling by himself somewhere, spoon-feeding baby birds catfood.
