Nice! I have that same notion of shadow magick being in between light and dark in some of my stories.

Is manipulating lightning or throwing bolts at people considered Light Magic? If you don’t have people throwing lightning like Zeus, what if you did? Would it be considered as Light Magic?

So, both Light and Dark Magic can be used for healing? Do they heal in different ways?

I had a character once ask a shapeshifter if they could transform into a bookshelf if they wanted to. The shapeshifter said they could, but they didn’t want to and it wouldn’t make sense.

Does she look like a normal cat or slightly unusual?

Can the shifters talk in their animal forms? Do they retain their eyesight or do they get cat eyesight for example?

Can Nikki shapeshift into something that someone has drawn? Like, say someone drew a really realistic drawing of something that could exist but doesn’t. Can she shapeshift into that or does it have to be something real?

Hey, I remember this!

Psss! Come look at my magic system

Aether is the air/oxygen that exists on Alagossia. Misting is the magic that is produced by the aether and what allows every single Alagossian to be able to use misting and overall exist. Without aether and without misting, death is very, very certain. Misting veins are similar to blood veins only they produce misting as an Alagossian breathes in aether. Magic follows through the veins giving out more magical power and keeps them thriving. Misting levels are a way of saying, how good and how you are able to control your misting, but it also means which Misting Location can you thrive in. Some locations are very thick in aether while other or either thin or a healthy medium. Different levels handle different locations based on their race and lifestyle. Misting Types are more focused towards race and which type of misting a certain race can produce. Every Alagossian has a Misting Level and Misting Type, they need both to thrive on Alagossia entirely.

For you, @TheTigerWriter!

Got any questions based on what I jotted down. Don’t worry I will answer your questions, though it’s going to take time in a weird way.

Ooooo that’s a tricky one. Technically lightning falls under storm and electricity, but I could also go under light

I do have people who can do this but, like I said, it’s more under storm and electricity. Still, no reason it couldn’t also go under light

Not really in different ways. They’re both primal energy sources so can do things in the same way but with different types of energy

I don’t see my Shapeshifters turning into bookshelves. Maybe as a joke :joy:

Izzy looks like a normal black cat

They talk the way animals talk. As for eyesight, Shapeshifters can change as necessary in any form but Shifters who can only take on one from their animal side. Some can change between “normal” and animal vision but it takes a lot of practice

Theoretically, everything exists somewhere so theoretically she could do it :relieved:

Yay someone does  because I totally didn’t have to write it down somewhere obvious reeee

Take it slowly. LOL!

I’m glad you found my world building fascinating, otherwise, what’s the point? xD

A mysttic and cosmic is basically just humans+. They’re no different than any other beings in terms of morals and beliefs. So, it is clear that a a mystic with a very sour personality will probably abuse their power.

One example would be Ann Kahl yes, that character i submitted from the other thread. She’s a mischievous being with only greed in her mind. She’s opportunistic and uses her power to bend the will of others.

Yes, there is! However, the laws of the Limit of Existence require an equal exchange—a life for an equal life. There’s also a caveat to this. An “equal life” does not just mean a human life for a human life. A person’s life is weighed by their deeds and “karma”. Every ounce of that person’s life must be “replenished” by a similar amount, otherwise, the resurrection will fail. Healing alone sheds a little from the caster’s life force. There’s also the thing about pulling someone’s soul out of the Realm of Afterlives. If the person has died for quite some time now, they can’t simply be exchanged for a resurrection. It’ll be like fishing the soul from the afterlife and you might even encounter resistance when the soul refuses to be pulled back to life. It’s a gruelling and dangerous process. It’s frowned upon not because of “necromancy” stuff (that’s just reanimating the dead), but because it can cost a lot of lives.

The Limit of Eternity. She’s actually a Primordial One who oversees the universe and the Rivers of Time. Her name is Guinevere (Earth name). She’s the sister of the Limit of Expanse (Ehlari). She’s usually in the Rivers of Time, ensuring no obstacles would block the progress of the Raft of the Present. She foresees every possibility of time.

And yes, there’s time travel. However, she restricts time travellers to just the passed past. Meaning, that time travellers can’t go back and change the trajectory of the Raft of the Present. Guinevere has already foreseen these time travels and laid out how they will affect the present.

That’s Celestial Magic. Since the ability of Mystics to use magic is dependent on the Celestial energies flowing through the Earth, the immense power one would need to use Celestial Magic would require them to pull energy from other celestial bodies. Celestial Magic allows the user to have more power in them, which makes them ascend to godhood.

This also goes to Mystics as well, mainly because of the Limit of Element, which is the source of reality, being stingy when it comes to sharing its power. In the whole universe (except the Limits and the Primordial Ones), there are only 4 reality cosmics. They are heavily monitored by Primordial Ones, because of their powers.

Also, reality magic does not exist. So, it’s not even rare, it’s non-existent.

No, not in that way I guess. The only biological benefit they get is mostly enhanced vitality and durability, depending on their powers. Mystics are mostly screwed, cause they don’t have innate enhanced vitality and durability tho.

As for ageing in general, there are magic techniques that allow immortality. These techniques tho are very hard to come by and are mostly individualistic, meaning they are developed differently person-by-person. It’s up to them if they want to divulge their knowledge, but it’s mostly kept.

There’s also a fountain of youth, which is guarded by none other than Herdwin (guess who?), which grants youth (not eternal). It’ll grant a person youth for quite some time, but they will still age naturally.

There’s no limit, they can turn into any animals (including fantasy ones that I have in the stories)

It does transfer, like if they were to get a wound on their side it would still be there when they shift back, if it’s like a wing broken that would transfer to their arm when they shift back, stuff like that.

Yes, they also get better sense of smell for certain animals.

For this they still see in all the colors they usually do.

Yes, they’re able to still talk when they shift, so others can know that it’s them in animal form.

As the saying goes, “can’t have too much of a good thing… :grimacing:” Is too much aether ever a bad thing? Could there be a case like aether is so thick in the air, it’s actually bad?

If they talk the way animals talk, how would different shifters communicate with each other after transformation? And do they still retain their normal brains to be able to shift back? (I’m thinking they would have to otherwise, they could be stuck as animals  )

I forgot about that XD Yeah, you’re right, she could.

Do you have answers to the specific questions/topics I gave in the magic system topic?

Yes, locations high in aether are deadly for a race whose body isn’t used to living in a location where aether is that high. The same can be said for races who can’t thrive in aether that is thin. There are some races that can exist in aether dwellings with a healthy balance or a happy medium of aether, not too high nor too low.

Hm, I see. I realized I needed to be more specific :stuck_out_tongue: I was wondering what the magic looks like and what it does to the person if it becomes broken or corrupted?

For example, in one of my many magical worlds, the World of Elagana, if a Sorcerer becomes too greedy, their magick becomes corrupted and explosive, and also begins to physically damage their bodies. Every time they use magick, it eats away at their bodies and their sanity until they can no longer control themselves and become a problem to society.

That is so interesting!

I think @JellyGhost and maybe @lowarlo will find your world interesting as well  Both have a story with afterlife lore in it.

This part made me think about my magical realism story where there’s a character who was resurrected. A seer who could enter into the spirit realm went to retrieve his soul and pull him back into life. I’m now wondering if that would have cost the seer anything

I never considered the cost

:point_up_2: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: It just sounds fascinating.

Does she ever task people to travel back in time for something?
If someone wants to travel back in time, how would they go about doing it? What are the steps?

Omg, I have that in a story  In my story (about humanoid shapeshifters that use gems for magick), it’s the magick of god-like beings that…well, me in the past said the best:

Celestials are ethereal and more like amoebas/single-celled creatures. They look like yellow or white lights that may take on a humanoid form. Their magick is extremely powerful and they are what keeps the realms of the world in balance.

Celestial magick is called Light/Astra and it makes up their bodies and is used instinctually without the casting of spells.

Anyway, that’s interesting how we have the same name for different things :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The biggest difference between yours and mine is that in my story, only Celestials can use celestial magick. It’s

How does a Mystic pull energy from a celestial body? Does it have to be a particular celestial body or just any one will do?

Explain reality cosmics :open_mouth:

I like how your lore goes into a philosophical territory

It reminds me of @48lexR vaguely remember their world having something about time or some guy with an “H” name having something to do with time… vague memory

That’s good

My system is called Aethurgy. There are three different specialisations: Simple Aethurgy, Pelomurgy, and Vidomurgy. There’s also a ‘soft-magic system’ called the Mysteries, which consists of miracles, mysticism, and theoretical magic.

(Nb. The term “aethurge” is an umbrella term for all practitioners of magic. It can also refer to practitioners of simple aethurgy. Practitioners of pelomurgy and vidomurgy are called “pelomurges” and “vidomurges/ Vidomids” respectively.)

It’s not based on light vs dark.

Aethurgy is the practice of influencing souls by way of communicating with the forces of the universe. Basically magic is only done with living things; no elements (fire, earth, air and water) can be wielded.

[quote=“TheTigerWriter, post:93, topic:14945”]
Transformation into something more powerful or something non-human or both
It is extremely rare but possible to spiritually ascend into a higher dimension. The ascended are called Aevessants, and they are able to wield the transformative force of the universe to perform incredible feats (i.e fly, control weather on a global scale, pull down stars, change the fate of people, travel to the realm of the dead). Only four people in recorded history were Aevessants — it is seen a sort of godhood in certain sects.

The universe.

No angels or demons here. No gods really. The forces of the universe are abstractions.

Magical ability in itself cannot be removed to the user. The users can be stopped from practicing magic but cutting off their hands and tongues. It’s a severe punishment reserved for aethurges. In order to purge magic, some societies may kill children who show signs of magical abilities.

Geez I didn’t go THAT deep into the biology because I didn’t think anyone would question it

Ahh, I see. There are really no universal side effects when it comes to someone’s morality while using their powers. Suppose a person becomes too greedy. there’s nothing really going to happen to them physically. Celestial energy is free for everyone who has access to it. How they decide to use it all falls to them.

She’s only tasked one person (my MC) to go back in time and assist the prophesized heroes of a dying world. Though, the MC didn’t know that he was going to be transported to the past. In the world of Arrgon, oracles around the world, despite complete isolation from each other, prophesized the coming of 12 heroes or Paragons. They were supposed to help liberate the people of Arrgon from the Chaos Witch, Rakshesha. However, the influence of chaos is deceitful and cunning. The Paragons played into Rakshesha’s hand, dooming the world. Guinevere could not allow it, because the events of Arrgon was crucial in the survival of the whole universe. She planned to basically pause the entire timeline, allowing Arrgon to be in a time loop until the Paragons go through every desirable possibility. However, the sudden emergence of MC, being somewhat immune to the influence of time, Guinevere was quick to basically send MC to Arrgon and straighten up the freaking Paragons.

Well, Time-travelling Mystics usually use enchantments to “reverse” time. Cosmics can just literally do it instantly. I think, if I can remember a character I made for this world, his name was Yhra. Yhra is a cosmic that has the ability to turn back, stop time, accelerate time with the blink of an eye. Guinevere has already foreseen all these, every thought, every move these time travellers made/make/will make and she knows where to put them in the Rivers without much disturbance.

Any celestial body out there. It could be planets, stars, pulsars, nebula, or anything. The farther they are, the more powerful their powers can be. They manually pull a celestial stream to create a connection from the source to them, which requires a loooooooooooooot of energy to the point that they become gods or pseudo-gods.

Reality Cosmics are extremely powerful beings. They have the capability to defy every law in the universe, manipulate them, create or alter realities on a whim, influence the flow of space and time, etc. The most notable reality cosmic is my MC. In reality, he wasn’t born with the power. His power was merely rapid cell regeneration. So, super healing. But in an accident where MC was hit by a fast-moving truck, the presumed-dead Primordial One of Reality, the Limit of Element fused with the soul of the MC, saving him from death. This granted MC not only reality powers but also the title and responsibility of a Primordial One and a Limit. As mentioned before, he is immune to the influence of time, well, that’s because of this. In fact, the biggest accomplishment of the MC was making a whole new River in the Rivers of Time, saving the universe from an early death. That’s how Guinevere found him. She was so thrilled and giddy when she finally found the missing Primordial One.

Tirrons are a race that uses more dark-based misting, though that can be said for Lunarians. Light-based would be both Solarians and Aelynthi. That is all determined by which race.

Ravakalyns, Merelliens, and Vroks along with the Saints can do this.

It comes from the aether which is Alagossian air.

I have none of those things in my world…sorta.

Removing misting is severely taboo, that is the same as ridding the oxygen from your lungs and stripping your blood veins into nothing.

Yes, it can be done, but that is usually done by complete monstrous criminals or eldritch beings or other vile Alagossian races.

How it’s done is by a powerful Alagossian who specializes in Mist Stealing which is pretty much stealing the misting from the power by sucking all the aether out. Tirrons can do this by consuming blood while in a feral state, drinking the person dry. Ravakalyns can do that with their red mist.

Saints can too because well they are essentially deities.

This is equal part their religion and origin story:

Summary

There’s a lot of disagreement between different species and their cultures and is heavily routed in there spiritual beliefs. The commonly agreed on and/or relevant details are that there were two primordial gods. Nyx and Lux. Nyx is the nothingness, night, darkness, the mother that existed before existence. Lux is her counterpart. Light, sun, life, the father. Together they made the universe and the soul. Lux decided to use the soul to create his own beings, the animals and humans we know of as well as the celestials, their religions version of angels. Nyx was upset that Lux was selfishly making weak creatures to rule over their world, and upset with the limitations and rules he put upon them. So created her own children. Demons, dragons and other beasts all with pieces of her own power, filled with the magic she had used when they created the world. Which, lead to a lot of mixing between her nightbreeds and lux’s children creating the fae, the vampyr, shape sifters and other creatures. Lux sent the celestials who had not interbred to destroy these creatures and when they lost he had pulled them from the world and disowned it completely. Though many mortals and Fae species will argue that Lux is the true god. Nyx still supports her children and their offspring and often is left offerings to grant powers to their children and others.

It all evolved from their original magic, which did lead to the large varieties of creatures and what they are capable of.

Some species can. Shape shifters, some powerful mages, it is not a very popular trait. Demons and those who evolved strictly from demon roots do not necessarily a physical transformation, just many of them hide the monstrous side of themselves very well and it tends to only full emerge in survival situations.

Some races can syphon magic from another but it always kills the being they are stealing the power from. So not removed by used, but removed by having it squeezed out of them is 100% possible.

Both exist but light based is extremely rare. Shadow based still is common between some lines of demons and mages. Elemental magic, animal communication and transformation magic are the most common among the fae, shifters, mages and most nonhumanoid creatures. Blood magic, shadow magic, necromancy, time manipulation and elemental magic are all game for demons and bits and pieces are passed onto there decedents. limited immortality and physical gifts are pretty common among most demon and celestial decedents. The vampyr and moroi have the ability to directly syphon life force off of other to gain power and immortality.
