Thinking honestly, I need to focus on standalone novels instead

So, I am so glad that Project Succession gave me a reason to keep going with writing. Yet, I need to do something else in terms of a novel. I will always love Project Succession, yet I want to push that in a closet till I can come back to it in a different light. I am still on draft two of Project Succession, I have SO MUCH time to go back to this.

I got to be 1000% honest with myself, I just back my love for writing fiction back with Project Succession, yet I would be foolish into thinking that I can jump into doing a novel series so easily. I am not capable yet and I need to accept that until I am dishing out more novels other than Project Succession.

I need to take what I did with my short story Into the Chaos to make a singular novel for stories set in the world of Alagossia. Though Project Succession can be a standalone novel, though I would rather not focus on that…yet.

With that in mind, I am going to keep writing Alagossia-related standalone novels. However, I will do a novel series someday later on, I just want to pace myself a bit. I have a novel series in mind, I just want to save the best for last. I need to do what makes me happy, standalones are more my thing when I think about it, for now at least.

Will I practice what I preach? I need the people reading this to remind me that. I am so spontaneous and allergic to routines that I will week later forget this important thing, then feel stupid for it.

Thoughts and feelings?

Note: Terry Pratchett’s Discworld is about to serve me some purpose because I totally forget that Discworld is what I wanted to do with Alagossia originally.

There are other authors that write novels and worlds like this. I need to realize that a stand alone novel can be written, especially if it takes place in the same fictional world.

bump.

If you are doing this for market, standalone is the way to go.

If you’re doing this for you, you do as you please.

Both. Both is good.

Another possibility is a collection of short stories that take place in the same universe. Remember Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell ? The same author published The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories later, which take place in the same universe. You could do something similar, where you explore other aspects or characters of Alagossia. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯

That’s the goal for my stand alone novels in Alagossia, though.

Update:

I have two Alagossian-verse stand-alone novels that I am going to start writing.

I plan to change my methods, since I will only do stand-alones, though that might be for some stories not all of them…maybe.

Project Succession will come back, just mid to late February, unless that changes to sometime in January.

Once finished with The Endurlon, I’ll be writing some stand alone tales for that world. These include The Fall of Mundhlor, Undermount and the Drake Revolution, as well as an untitled tale regarding Geldrid’s past life with his wife and child.
