I guess you’re right. They’re not super mainstream but I forget that when I’m a fan of someone’s music, like I know them so I forget that not everyone else does. And yeah, I do like Waterparks, I have the Intellectual Property album as it’s my favourite, though I like all their stuff
Same haha! But I only forget when I’m listening to them by myself- whenever I talk to someone else, I pretty much assume that the other person won’t know them. Esp my people bc they’re usually alternative, or rock, or pop punk/emo, or just any genre that’s not widely popular with mainstream.
That’s great though! I know, IP is my favorite era bc of the red hair (red’s my fave color lol). As for the album itself, it is really good but my faves are still Entertainment and Greatest Hits <3 But yeah, all of their music is great though.
What songs do you know? I’ve been listening to them for a long time, since their first album maybe?
I don’t think those genres are so out of mainstream. They’re not pop, but a lot of people like those genres and Waterparks are pretty well known these days I feel? But yeah all their albums are great.
Ok so here is the story of how I got into Waterparks lol: I’d been seeing them recommended on YT Music for the longest time and I’d read a lil about them from Wattpad a while back, and I just wasn’t ready until May 2021 (yes the same time GH came out, I’ll get there XD). So the first one that came up and I listened to it was Tantrum. I wasn’t that crazy about it, and some time later, Blonde was recommended and there was a video that looked interesting so I wanted to check it out. I ended up loving it, and Awsten intrigued me from the video XD so the next one that got recommended some time later that day was Sleep Alone, and I loved it too. So once I figured out that they were all from Entertainment, I decided to binge the whole album and it became my fave since then. That was the only album I heard for a while until I decided to binge all of their stuff up to the latest singles (which I think was missing Just Kidding and Violet! but I made it to the premiere of each before the album, which I heard half and half lol). And then I’ve been a fan of them completely ever since! But Entertainment is still my fave of all time, and GH has just a completely different feel to it. GH and IP have that ethereal kinda thing in common that they seem to be getting into, besides some good old-fashioned pop punk-style songs like Violet! and Funeral Grey.
takes deep breath sorry XD but yeah I love them. I was prolly around 5 when their first album came out so XD and yeah they’re definitely more known than back then, both the band and those genres. Still not as mainstream as I’d hope though tbh-
Yeah that’s a pretty common way to find people, youtube is good at recommending things sometimes lol. I’ve really gotten into their music more as they’ve grown into their sound more recently, personally. I like most of their stuff, though their earlier stuff isn’t my favourite. I like how they’re becoming these days you know?
I like to find my music wherever though. I got into Waterparks because a friend of mine recommended I listen to one of their songs and though I knew who them it was what made me listen to them more. However, with other bands I like, I usually hear a song and just have a need to go through everything they’ve done, like Wolf Alice — I heard a song on the radio from their first album and just knew I loved their sound and that is still one of my favourite songs of theirs to this day.
Mhm for sure! Though for me, the most common way to find music is through my TV music channels haha. My go-tos are the Hard Rock and Alternative, although if I go through the Menu, I can get to way more channels and then I like going to the Rock channel, bc it has a lot more variety. But otherwise, the Hit List and Pop Hits work well for new faves too, it just depends on what I’m in the mood for (which sometimes I’m not even in the mood to discover, so I skip if it’s not something I already know or one of them I’m into but not as into as some of the other songs lol).
But yeah, I can agree with that. I definitely like Silver and I’m A Natural Blue, the others from the first 2 EPs didn’t stand out as much but I think they’re very special to the fandom tbh. I actually don’t mind Cluster though, mainly bc I really like Crave and Territory and then it’s just like 3 more songs so it’s whatever lol. I definitely love Double Dare and on though. I just love how Awsten always references old lyrics or albums, so everything always seems interconnected somehow.
That’s cool! Yeah me too! It just depends on the artist. Like that happened to me w/ AJR, I heard Bang! from a friend and after someone online pressured me a lil bit XD I decided to just go thru everything (it was up to singles from OK Orchestra back then) and yeah I loved all of it. There are some other artists that are still falling under that category but I just haven’t had time to binge everything sadly
Ok so the first one I heard from Wolf Alice was Smile, and I remember really liking it. Then sometime later, I heard Moaning Lisa Smile and liked it too. Side note- I didn’t realize the second one was older than the first until right now XD but yeah.
I used to love the music channel but more than that I’ve always loved finding music on the radio. It just sounds so good on the radio, I can’t describe it. Maybe I’m just old school
You’ll get time to listen to more of them eventually. I always think whenever I get around to listening more to someone who has been on my radar for a while that the time will come when I appreciate their work most. I dunno, I like to think you get into things when you’re supposed to find it you know? Like if you heard it before you wouldn’t appreciate it as much, or if you force it then you won’t be as open to it, but that’s just me.
Those are great songs. I prefer Smile out of the two personally. You’re a Germ was the first song I heard and maybe still my top song, but they are one of my top bands that I’ve liked for a long time, they’re really good.
I can get that! But Ig I just work with what I have XD (no one in my house has a car, so if I do hear something on the radio, it’s if we happen to be in an Uber lol)
Yeah I completely agree There are plenty of artists that I used to know maybe one song and I didn’t like them, and then sometime later, I hear either the same song or a different one from them and I’m like, ‘wtf was I thinking, this is so good’ XD Like it took me forever to get into Five Finger Death Punch… I used to think Battleborn was so annoying, and now it’s one of my faves bc it was one of the first ones I heard from them lol. All it took was for me to hear their cover of Bad Company and I loved it, so I somewhat begrudgingly admitted that I might like more from them. Slowly but surely, I started liking Battleborn XD and voila! I’m now a die-hard fan lol-
Yeah same! Actually I heard both on the Alternative channel But the other one you mentioned sounds familiar, I may have heard it too at some point. Eventually I’ll definitely check out some more from them!
side note- my TV does have the option to hear stuff on iHeartRadio so once in a while, I’ll go there. But I mainly stick what the regular channels since I’ve done for so long (I only just started using the iHeartRadio feature like 2mths ago I think? And it’s cool but Ig I figure why mess with what I already love lol?
Fair enough. I do agree that sometimes it’s just hard to make yourself sit down and enjoy something if the mood for it isn’t right. But I feel like I am a good judge of what I’d like (or not like) from the surface of what I see or know or hear a little bit of to know whether I want to find time to invest myself into whatever the thing is, whether it’s an album or a show or a movie.
I like a lot of old rock, like 70/80s and 90s/00s bands like blink-182, that kind of thing, but I will listen to most genres tbh, I’m pretty open. I like kpop as well
Cool cool! My fave genre is rock, but I’m pretty eclectic too tbh. I like country, melodic rap, alternative/indie, pop, and a lil bit of rap/hip hop/R&B, though they’re not my ultimate faves compared to everything else. Idk enough from Blink-182 tbh, but I like the big hits. Pop punk/emo are big faves for me, so they’re definitely in there.
My all-time fave bands are Set It Off, and ofc, Waterparks. But I also love Twenty One Pilots, Five Finger Death Punch, Starset, Ice Nine Kills, Unlike Pluto (soloist), Alec Benjamin (another soloist), My Chemical Romance, and plenty more soloists and bands.
That’s cool. I’ve heard of some of those bands, but not listened to a lot of all of them. I feel like we have similar tastes but they diverge at who we like to listen to in those genres lol.
We overlap with some MCR, but I also like bands like Fall Out Boy, Green Day, The Used, but yeah, also a lot of older music that’s rock/punk. But my taste is super varied and kind of a mess if you look at it all together. One minute I’ll be listening to The Clash and the next I’ll be listening to Sabrina Carpenter lmao.
Oh yeah, I like them too! I’m not as ‘all about them’ as the others I mentioned, but I definitely like them. And it’s hilarious that you mentioned Sabrina, she’s actually been my fave soloist ever since she was on GMW sighs at nostalgic DC shows.
