I have that in my story.
I call them Shadowlands though.
Teehee!
In my world, there is global currency which is called Sovereign Credits and it comes in both physical money like bills and coins and digital currency too. I also have plenty of races and different species too. The animals are very different from Earth and that is a bit of a struggle. We have fourteen months in a single year and nine days out of the week, but there are fifty days in a month.
Wow! It funny how similar we are to each other in a way!
Ha! LOL!
People gain their magical powers from the air that the people breathe. There is high, low, and toxic First Mist which is the air that everyone inhales and what grants them magical powers and abilities, though the problem is that depending on the location, the First Mist can be deadly to someone who isnāt used to the different environment. Itās a wonky world and I would love to explain more if you are willing to listen to me. It is very similar to my previous worlds, but a bit different-ish.
Wanna hear more?!
Shadowlands⦠Ominous indeed⦠I like it!

I like that name. Sounds like there could be a whole Star Wars like Universe out there all using Sovereign Credits. So cool!

Again, this is good. Kinda reminds me of The Air Benders, Earth Benders and Water Benders⦠But in a good way.
Iād like to hear more about the geography of your world further, as I love locations and the details of them in books.

Yeah, they are called that because the countries are shadows of their former selves when they fell into ruin, hence āShadowlandsā.
But the cause for Shadowlands are a number of things.
From Total Cleansing/Purging to a country falling into ruin because of poverty or hard times to anarchy of sorts and etc.
Yet when a country does become a Shadowland, they are mostly toxic locations where the First Mist is higher than normal (itās like a magical radiation) brought on because of a Total Cleansing.
Then there are some that arenāt toxic and are home to Blanks (a caste for poor/homeless/nomadic people) that traveled far for shelter.
I shall do my best. LOL!
The planet (Relkilia is the name) is MASSIVE and the continents are four times the size of Pangea on earth millions of years ago. There five continents in total, but there are a crap ton of countries though, not counting the floating nations.
So, the continents are apart from each other, but the borders are so wonky that I find it amusing. The nations are so close to each other that walking to another country is possible, depending on where a person lives.
Moving on, the air is what grant magical powers called Misting and also gives immortality and extended lifespans depending on the species and race.
Every person and being living on Relkilia has mana levels and these levels range from high to low depending on where they dwell. Not having a mana levels strong enough is a death sentence for certain people. People with low mana levels canāt handle living in places where the First Mist is high or toxic, it makes them weak and feel like they are suffocating and will kill them.
Yet, people with high mana levels canāt stay in a location where the First Mist is low because their mana levels arenāt used to it and it causes their Misting and mana levels to go chaotic and become unstable.
There are solutions to these problems which are in the form of elixirs and special medications and magical accessories.
Got any questions so far?
Nice!
I think Iād like to live in the Shadowlands⦠Nomadic and suchā¦

Be careful though. The ones that went through a Total Cleansing are highly toxic, and are worse than the radiation levels of Chernobyl and will last WAY longer than that too!
Though you can live in the ones that havenāt been Purged (Total Cleansed) since nobody is ruling those lands anymore and free real estate wherever you go. No food, unless you bring your own!
Thatās my home right there⦠Once settled, Iāll start a farmstead.

LOL!
