What is the meaning behind the title of your story? Let's discuss it!

So, tell me, what is the story with the title of your story? Why did you choose that title? How does the title fit with the plot of the story?

I want to know what the meaning behind your title of your story.

My Turn:

My title is Red Reign. The reason behind the title originally was the Red Ghosts or Ravakalyn trying to reign supreme after losing their ability to rule and forced into exile. Now, it has that though it is a bit different. The Red ghosts are trying to rule by stealing the identities of their foes in order to locate a special tool to find their queen. Though the title can also hold the meaning that the Aeris and her family are magical vampires who are descendants of a vampiric god. They consume red blood and other color blood too along with the fact that they are reigning in their own dynasties.

That is the meaning behind the title now.

What about you guys? Thoughts and feelings?

My favorite thing to talk about

Between Roses
is because Eryn is in a tug of war between the Red Queen (red roses) and the White Queen (white roses), and also, she later meets people who are trying to start a revolution, so they are also between red and white.

And there’s lots of lore stuff that have to do with being in between two things.

Alive At Dawn
is literally because all the victims are alive at dawn, but not after :smirk: And every sinister thing that happens is just before dawn. Just right before it gets too bright to be able to see what’s going on. So, it’s not such a long time to do an evil deed, but the villains of this story don’t need that much time :smirk:

The sequel, Dead By Sunrise
is now taking that sliver of time once it gets bright enough, but the sun hasn’t fully risen. So again, it’s not such a long time. It’s during that time once it’s just begun to show signs of sunrise that something sinister happens. Then once the sun fully rises, others see the full extent of the deadly thing.

my titles are pretty clear wht story element they are pulled from. in my case its a name or the overlying concept of the story

The Queen’s peace keeper:

its pretty on the nose as its the mcs name and wht they want to do, minus the tragic ending. the story follows a man who u get the wrong impression of from the start of the story. where the MC and a girl have a bet, the bet will change both’s lives forever if either side wins. its a magical bet in the style of a wager who ever can defeat a challenge wins. The mc is framed as the villian and u dont learn the truth of who they are till way later

One of my old stories

I’m so random in titles. They’re all over the place, and I don’t think much about it, day to day. For example, I’ve got a cover, no story, called OftWold. Let’s see what happens with that.

I named my story Synthetic: Genesis because it’s the first in a series that focuses on synthetic humans and in this first book, it tells of the creation or start of synthetics, as a species. The MC is the very first fully functioning prototype, so it is both his and his people’s genesis.

The next book will be called Synthetic: Exodus, as it details the MC and several other’s journey through space to other worlds.

Then, the final book will be Synthetic: Revelations, as it brings a lot of answers to light and reveals the MC in a new light as well.

I also named these by bible book names because there is a lot of religious parallel and imagery in the books as it documents the creation of a new species and follows their leaders or ā€œprophetsā€ and ā€œgodā€ in a similar way as the bible, acting as a new bible for the next evolution of intelligent species in a way. The MC himself has a sort divinity about him that will be gradually revealed theoughout the story and he is viewed as a sort of messiah by his people.

So that all plays a part in how I chose to name my books.

My wip doesn’t currently have a title, but eventually it’ll be something about a lost prince or a doomed kingdom, something like that. I never bother to title them until they’re finished and I know what the ultimate message/theme/plot point was. This is another reason it would be so much better for me to outline first! ĀÆ\_(ļ¢)_/ĀÆ

Battle for the Photon Core
I mean, it’s kinda in the name :joy:

The Final Downfall
The end of the Forgotten War

Queen of Darkness
The new main character’s identity but we don’t know that until part 2 of the book :relieved:

Collision
Crossover story between all 4 of my series, one of which takes place in another version of Creation. The worlds literally collide so I thought the title would really hammer that in

Tear In The Megaverse
Again, the title pretty much sums it up :joy:

Immortalize
Honestly, I just thought it was a cool title
I think it has come to mean that the characters will never be forgotten because they saved Creation from falling into the Void by using an extremely rare power that almost killed them and left them with ā€˜Elan Scarring’ (scars from a not-holder of the power trying to use the power) on them for the rest of their lives.

Secrets of the Sun
Throughout the series, the sun is mentioned as some mystical creature (we’ll see how many pick up that detail). So the book is solving . . . the secrets of the sun. It also delves into the mythology surrounding the Beast (aka the mystical creature) and what / who it actually is. I know, obviously, and it is rather disturbing :joy:

The Dark King’s Return
3 guesses what that one is about and what it means

The Mirror World
This one is me going back to the ā€œCollisionā€ meaning but focusing it one just this series, not all of them. If you know anything about mirror worlds and parallel realms, it’s a world where everything is opposite to the one we’re in. So that’s what I did. I swapped the heroes and villains around

So apparently I’m very literal with my titles :joy: I have a whole bunch of other ones I think are cool but that’s just the main series

Smoldering Children –

Part of it has to do with the fact the MC has an infection called a ā€œsmolderā€ that creates red-lined scars and warps the color of one of her eyes. Smoldering also refers to a slow building fire signaling the MC has basically in her plot gone from frying pan to fire, so to speak. It also highlights her suppressed (or smoldering) emotions.

At first I read it as Smoldering Chicken.

The lastest book in the KFC romance series!

Beast of Heaven
It’s a nod to The Hound of Heaven the poem by Francis Thompson, in which God’s love is chasing a man. It speaks to the core idea of the story. Of course I’ve perverted it: there’s all manner of beastliness and depravity involved.

Incredible Nordic Oatmilk
So there was this independent grocery that my ex was obsessed with. He tried convincing me to go there, and his pitch was, ā€˜They have incredible Nordic Oatmilk!’ I thought it was funny (vegan jokes). It was a small little shop with boxes stacked high. It was like a maze, like there could be anything lurking around the corner.

A year later, we’re broken up and I hear the shop is closed permanently. That’s when the idea comes to me to write a story reflecting on that relationship, set inside the grocery and featuring a vegan who runs into a vampire by the beverage fridge. Incredible Nordic Oatmilk baby!
