What's a worldbuilding thing you recently did? [out of context]

Okay, so, I had an idea. Let’s do “Out of Context” worldbuilding edition.

Worldbuilding will be very broad here. If your story takes place in your hometown, but you decided to get rid of the park, you can say, “I got rid of the park.” or “The park had to go because I needed the mayor to build a library instead.” or whatever.

Just tell me some worldbuilding thing you recently did. I’ll share, too.

Remember, out of context, unless someone asks

TheTigerWriter made a new thread. Such rare. Much wow.

The gateway to hell is in a chasm in a dry, arid place. It’s where everyone throws their trash.

I got the idea from a video I watched debunking some alien thing where people would throw their trash down a hole they thought was connected to another world. They thought the trash would disappear. (so, like this, you can share where you got the idea if you want)

I decided to not let the First Dynasties rule countries, but still be royalty.
Like landless royals that have massive families with equally massive wealth due to being descendants from godly figures called Saints.

That’s not out of context though. LOL!

I built the ship in space instead of trying to launch it from the ground up. It was too big to get off the ground if it wasn’t made in space and just had crew and supplies launched up in multiple trips.

I moved a convent in the mountains to a canal in “Venice” so the prince can just hop out of a gondola and sneak into it instead of sneaking into someone’s private home or something. ☜(ˆ▿ˆc)

I didn’t get the idea anywhere, but it was more convenient and let me cut a paragraph or two from the chapter. ٩(˘◡˘)۶

Magic is a fundamental force carried by an undetectable particle that can be influenced by electromagnetism.

This… fixes a lot of weird and wacky nuances about Meiste’s – and my other works’ – magic systems. It also explains the existences of gods and other universes.

No idea if this will ever wind up being relevant to the plot but it feels more codified now than it was before.

People read the book of fairytales not realising it’s a very very VERY accurate depiction of reality

I just remembered this very cool documentary about how the international space station was made. If you’ve never seen it it’s a NatGeo documentary here

Maybe you have seen it, or you know about this, but that was exactly how it was made. Crew and supplies launched up in multiple trips.

I have to really think when I read this, but it sounds really cool. If anyone gives you trouble about “what’s the science of magic?”, you just give them that, and they’ll be like “cool” and not question you further, hopefully

Okay, Irenican demons frequently visit to eat terrible souls. That’s why it’s not a big deal to see a cat with oddly eight legs, or a dog with three heads. Or a sinister-looking child. Horror stuff is normal stuff.

But what is a big deal is people who have the protection of angellics and can do magical things. Very, very big deal. You’d pay to see this type of deal.

I feel like we either strive for convenience, or try to wow someone, or be incredibly disturbing when it comes to world building stuff :stuck_out_tongue: Or…maybe that’s just me

literally

honestly, though, it’s a little bland, imo. But in trying to tie together several different stories into one, the only thing that makes sense would be if magic were transmitted by a particle.

in the future, maybe i’ll make a world where magic is more squishy, but we’ll see.

I recently decided that in my world, the main city has no streetlights at all-people rely on bioluminescent plants to light the streets at night.

Okay, but that’s legit really cool? I love that.

Can you come back again to say more?

That sounds cool.

Are the bioluminescent plants natural or were they created by someone?

Of course. It’s the same as my other out of context thread

There are no corpses in Alagossia. The body turns to ashes and dust. Although ghosts do exist, they can never return back to their original body as it became dust. They can possess a living person or thing that the ghost can morph into their own design.

So, the ghost or your relative can take possession of a dying dog which will become an anthropomorphic being. Or they can take possession of a plant in order to become a plant person. Or even take possession of a machine to become a robotic humanoid.

Ghosts on Alagossia are different from ghosts in other fiction. Another thing is that different races can see and sense ghosts while some cannot until they are possessing something.

There aren’t any burial sites because there is no body to be buried. Though people do keep them in jars in something similar to a shrine, just not coffins.

That’s a plant person of a whole other level XD

So, what do plant people eat?
