This is the second one, the second and final version.
Why I like the second one better.
I like the second better because it’s much brighter. It has more colour to it (the butterflies and the gems in the middle of the tiara/crown). The font could be more fantastical or more reminiscent of a fantasy novel, but I like the overall look of it. The gloss or shine in the title returns in the small sparkles on the crown/tiara.
I also like the addition of the butterflies. I looked up the symbolism, and they represent change or a new beginning if I’m correct. Or rather, remember correctly. Overall? I like the second one better.
Questions for you.
I would like to pose a few questions regarding these covers.
Which version do you like better and why?
What does each individual cover tell you? Which emotion do they invoke and which one would you pick up in the book store? (overall emotion and vibe of the story basically)
Which platform would you love to read this on if you could choose? Wattpad, Inkitt, Radish, or all of the ones listed?
Final Note:
While I’m aware I’m not giving you all the full background, regarding the story, I’m planning on making a topic for accountability for my story, so I can include you guys, my fellow writers, in the planning stages. Why? Because sometimes you just need that extra braincell to guide you. Especially when it comes to writing.
I like the first better… The Moon and the Tiara (if that is what it is) is much more fitting in size and shade. The Title also looks fitting in the tone overall with it’s moody shading…
To be totally honest here… If I saw this cover on a bookshelf, I’d pick it up and take a read of the blurb… Even if it was not the type of tale I was looking for… The Look alone would have me reach for it. The simplicity is stunning, and I don’t really like overly colourful and detailed covers anyway, but this speaks of subtle class…
Honestly, I feel like if I saw the first option in a bookstore, I would choose it. The second one feels like there is too much going on and having the words in the moon makes it a bit hard to look at.
The first one is a bit simple, but the way the words are at the bottom makes it pop in its own way. Showcasing the moon and tiara only works and brings in potential readers.
I don’t know if it makes sense what I am saying, yet I find the first option better in my own opinion.
I like the color, added butterfly elements, and background beneath the moon and tiara better in the second one, but I like the placement of the crown and I really prefer the typeface choices better in the first one. Honestly, the second one is really hard for me to read because there’s not enough contrast between the title and the moon. Overall impression is that I like the first one better because it conveys the information better and that’s more important than the graphics for any design that has both text and images. (I’m currently in a graphic design program so, drawing on what I’ve learned so far for this feedback.)
The first one has a darker, grittier, more tragic fantasy feel, while the second one is similar but has a little more whimsy and magical feel to it.
I haven’t found a decent writing platform site that I enjoy yet, but Wattpad is the one I’m most familiar with. Second choice is Inkitt.
I have read all the comments so far on this topic. While I would love to use the first one, I can’t as I would need to edit the author name on it. I do have the second one saved as a PSD file so I can try to edit that one to resemble the first one in its tone and overall vibe.
I appreciate all of the feedback given! While my personal favourite is the second one, I can see why the first one is more appealing to potential readers.
I’ll do my best to edit the draft version of the second one to see if I can make it look similar to the first one. If not, I’ll go through all the draft versions of the covers I have to see if I can find the first version and simply edit the author name!
I have tried to recreate the cover I made (Option 01). Leaving the butterflies and sparkles out of it.
It somehow got grittier? It looks like all the colour got drained out of the cover. Which, considering the topics might work for the story. While the more whimsical version had hope, visualized by the butterflies and sparkles, this cover version speaks more to the darker topics being discussed: murder, poverty, civil war, etc.
OHH I used a PSD colouring which I didn’t use in the 3rd option! And I sized the tiara/crown down… If I knew which PSD colouring I used that would be helpful, but I was dumb enough to not save the PSD file I was editing in.
I think I’m leaning more to Option 03 now, what about you guys?
I like option 4, it blended the two first options together well and made it more readable while still having a bit of color, but in muted tones so it still has that gritty, darker atmosphere.
