Would you ever try a TBW (To Be Written) jar?

On YouTube, I see plenty of people in the writing and book space create a videos involving a TBR Jar.

The goal is to read the amount of books based on a prompts you choose from the jar. The person selects at least five or few more books based on whichever prompts you’ve written down.

I thought why not create a TBW (To Be Written) jar for short stories and flash fiction stories.

Would anyone give that a try for themselves?

It sounds like an interesting way to get things done, but I don’t think it would work for me. Maybe if I were having a really hard time picking what to write next

You can use it in that way.

I keep something of a physical archive through notebooks…

For my more formulaic penname, I have a list of plots that I can work through if I don’t have any specific ideas, they’re split up based on which series they would go into. It’s a fine system and helps me sometimes

It’s not something I would ever use personally, but it might be fun for other writers that need help knowing what to work on next.

I’ve seen BookTubers use those TBR jars too! But they don’t work for me since I’m never in the mood to read the book that comes up.

A TBW jar wouldn’t work for the same reason: I have to write the book that I’m most interested in at the time. If I’m not in the mood, then I wouldn’t be able to stick with it. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯

I think the idea behind this is to collect any and all ideas and write them down, that way when you’re out of ideas you could take from the jar. it would effectively work like a memory bank and less of a reading journal.

I like the way you think, cool person!

It might be a fun writing exercise  I couldn’t do that for the novels I write though; I’m quite scrupulous with my writing.

Time would be the main hurdle for me… Not enough of it I deem…

Nice idea though!

No, I don’t think I’d want a TBW jar. I’d feel like I’d have pressure to write the stories and when I have pressure, I don’t write good stories at all. NaNo was a different case.

But if you think that’s something that would motivate you, I’d say why not? Give it a go

I guess that’s vaguely what we do for some contests that come with prompts in the first place, although we tend to have more choice in the matter.
