On YouTube, I see plenty of people in the writing and book space create a videos involving a TBR Jar.
The goal is to read the amount of books based on a prompts you choose from the jar. The person selects at least five or few more books based on whichever prompts you’ve written down.
I thought why not create a TBW (To Be Written) jar for short stories and flash fiction stories.
Would anyone give that a try for themselves?
Thoughts and feelings?
It sounds like an interesting way to get things done, but I don’t think it would work for me. Maybe if I were having a really hard time picking what to write next
For my more formulaic penname, I have a list of plots that I can work through if I don’t have any specific ideas, they’re split up based on which series they would go into. It’s a fine system and helps me sometimes
I’ve seen BookTubers use those TBR jars too! But they don’t work for me since I’m never in the mood to read the book that comes up.
A TBW jar wouldn’t work for the same reason: I have to write the book that I’m most interested in at the time. If I’m not in the mood, then I wouldn’t be able to stick with it. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯
I think the idea behind this is to collect any and all ideas and write them down, that way when you’re out of ideas you could take from the jar. it would effectively work like a memory bank and less of a reading journal.
No, I don’t think I’d want a TBW jar. I’d feel like I’d have pressure to write the stories and when I have pressure, I don’t write good stories at all. NaNo was a different case.
But if you think that’s something that would motivate you, I’d say why not? Give it a go
