Writers starting up their new book

Hows that going?

I’ve had an idea, several actually, in my head for YEARS. one of them is super sticking out at me and has been for awhile. problem is i can’t decide if i want to do first person or third person, as I usually do first person but 3rd may be better for this one due to several aspects.

I just got my own office/library up and running so I have the space to do it, finalllly.

Problem is.

Can’t get it fleshed out for shiz. So what’s your guys’ starting point, other than loose plot, starter, and character template? Because I keep thinking I need everything fleshed out in the beginning when truly I probably don’t.

Also, hows your own writings going?

My starting point is a vague idea, usually just a character. I’ll spin the Scrivener name gen to name them and go from there. I am probably on the more extreme end of ‘pantsing’ because I often don’t even have an idea of genre beforehand lol.

If you’re struggling to get started, why not try just putting the first word down? You don’t have to commit to the tense or anything, just get the first line done and see how you feel about it. Ideally, get the first chapter done before you judge it because then you’ll have already dedicated at least 15 minutes to it.

Very tired.. but hey, at least I’m in Spain :))

If you want to do first person, you can still do it, but just make sure it’s stated at the beginning which character’s POV we are in.

Really it’s knowing the character’s backstory I struggle with on how it’ll all tie together. I am also a pantser, but I need the premise first. Does that make sense? I finally just opened a word document and am writing my own thoughts down—not the story part but my thoughts that’ll answer the questions roaming in my head if that makes any sense
