Agreed. The worst is when they dislike a genre even when they’ve barely listened to it, or generalize it and say that it’s bad based on those generalizations.

I felt really annoyed when someone here mentioned that popular music now has meaningless lyrics and had this “looking down on mainstream music” vibe. Like, I get that some pop music may not be to your taste, but I just hate when people look down on whole genres. Most of the albums on my phone are pop, and my current favorite singer is a pop singer who’s sung about mental health.

Or whenever people dismiss classical music as being boring or for being written by dead white guys who’ve been dead for centuries. Classical music as a whole is not boring, and my second-favorite composer is a Japanese guy who released a classical piece literally on Christmas Day of 2021.

Or when people dismiss jazz as being nothing but wrong notes and that you can get away with playing anything. Bruh, there’s more to jazz than just noodling around.

Sorry, I just have strong feelings, being someone who’s into different genres and has had her music taste being looked down on

I fell asleep last night so sorry for not responding sooner.

Yeah generalisations are annoying. I’m not a big fan of pop usually but there will occasionally be a couple of songs that I do like and I see no issue in that. Same with mainstream rap. It happens.

Yep. YoYo Ma is pretty famous. He was on Arthur once, and he seems legit cool. But yeah, you showed me that Asian lady as well. She sounded cool. Classical music definitely isn’t dead and it definitely isn’t just old white guys. Classical music instruments usually sound pretty good in rap tbh. Or RnB. That’s my fave fusion, NGL. Needs more of it.

Some jazz can be cool too. And yeah it’s not wrong notes. There are things called “jazz chords” as well. That’s the whole point of it, lol.

Nah having strong opinions on music is fine. Having your music taste frowned upon is kinda annoying. Mine is pretty diverse as well.

Yup! Fantasy and Science fic gets that wriggle room maily because of the worldbuilding potential. Books are actually longer than the ‘standard’ in these genres, but the standards apply to debut authors, because the publishers are taking risks with newer authors.

Yeah, I don’t think longer chapters really work on Wattpad, people like flipping pages more than scrolling.

Ooh sounds really interesing! Wish you all the best for the project!

Ohhh. I’ve just recently caught on!

I would say Edin over Arden. So that would become even.

Ohh alright! I put that there specifically because it was relevant, but I’ll remove it! Thanks for letting me know.

Psst- I’d love it if you could tell me if that article was helpful even marinally, or if you have any feedback!

Well, anytime you need that movtivation, just message me! I’ll cheer you on!

True though.
Still, reaching that balance is hardddd

I can understand why’d they take the risk. I mean, not everyone is willing to buy a book from a new author, so the publishers would probably want to save money on printed pages in case the book wasn’t a big success.

I think longer chapters will only work on Wattpad if they’re present in a sequel, since the audience from the first book would probably be more lenient with the length. At least, that’s what I did :joy: I don’t intend to give Blood Will Boil (the sequel to Blood Will Tell) crazy long chapters, though. Probably in the 2K to 3K range at most.

Thanks! Would you like to hear more about it? If I ever write it (like years from now XD), I might ask you to read some passages to make sure they’re not offensive.

Awww, you touched his heart  now he’s like “Glad to know there’s another person out there who doesn’t want me dead”

It was very helpful, thank you for sharing it!

Thanks! And if you need motivation, I’ll cheer you on too!

How far in are you?

Yup! So newer authors have a lot more rules to stick to, so debuting is hard.

True. Because you already have an audience familiar with the style and are already invested. My chapters are usually the 2k-3k length, too, except I no longer post to Wattpad, so I have the freedom to go to whichever length I want.

Yes please! I love all multicultrual books, and I’d love to know more!

Aww, Edin, we never want you dead

Yay! I’m glad about that!

Thank you!
I’m currently writing act two of my book, and it’s been so hard to just get started, but I think that was because I didn’t plot it out properly. So now, I think I should be able to write it. I hope.

XD all of us?
