OOH sounds really interesting!

We can form our own cheering squad where we’ll motivate each other :joy:

Oh, you don’t post to Wattpad anymore? I never knew that. Well, good thing you have the freedom now! Must be liberating to not think about splitting chapters so that readers don’t find them too long.

Sure!

So basically, it centers around an Indonesian girl (or Filipina-Indonesian, not sure yet) who goes to a private school that’s British-patterned, Christian, and set in my hometown. She’s sort of a loner. Her best friend’s a ghost who used to attend her school, but then died as a teenager, so now he just haunts the school. They met because she got the key to the locker that was once his, and they met there. Now they’re best friends.

The story starts with the two already being very close, and a new kid enters her school. She ends up having a crush on the new guy and later learns that he likes sports. Now, the ghost was a sporty kid, so they had a plan: the ghost would “possess” the girl, get her on the sports team, and then “unpossess” her and she would get her crush to like him back.

Good news? The ghost managed to possess her! The bad news? She got kicked out of her own body, and the two have no idea how to get her back in. Well, they were thinking of the ghost leaving so that she could reenter her body, but then they were like “what if you can’t get back in and then you die” :joy:

So most of the story follows a girl who’s trying to adjust to her life as a ghost, and a lazy and athletic ghost boy who hadn’t studied in decades trying to pass as a girl who’s smart and usually gets As in a lot of her courses, but is also not that physically fit :joy:

That’s right, the two of us never want you dead, and I think Churro doesn’t want you to die too, haha

Although LadyOfTheRiver and FourcedowErsert did want him to die. I managed to convince the latter into thinking that he should live, especially after I told her the things that would happen had the story taken a different route. As for the former, they did like the final part (where he gets a happy ending) more than the other parts, so I hope that means that they want him to live too.

Man, I should’ve screenshotted those polls where I asked what Edin’s fate should be (before I really decided on the ending) and asked whether he should live, die, or permanently fuse with Damon to form ED. It’s heartbreaking and also hilarious that I was literally the only one who wanted him to live while the option “he should die” was the most popular choice. Everyone except Arden and me wanted him dead, at least at that time :joy:

Edin, what matters most is that I want you to live. You’re lucky I find you too precious to kill off—if I didn’t, I would’ve killed you even if others wanted you to be spared. But you’ve been through too much and you deserve a happy ending

Hopefully. Not sure if it happens in your case, but sometimes my characters steer the story themselves—even against my will. Maybe your characters will do the same! And you can figure out the story as you write. I believe in you :fist:

I’m all for that idea!

Yeah it is!
I mean, I don’t write too fast. Last year I finished an entire draft in 3 months - but that was a 50K book that read like a teen fic, and I wrote about 1K words every day. Now, I can barely write 500 words a day. I also the quit writing the wip I was posting to wattpad, for lots of reasons, but mainly because I was demotivated to write it, and I really needed a break from that story that I’d been writing in various drafts for about three years at that point.
After that, there was really nothing to post. So if I do ever write a short story, I might put it on there, because those are not my main things, and if I rework that short story into a novella, I will put that there. Basically, anything that’s not a novel I want to trad-pub will go on Wattpad, but I don’t have any such project scheduled for a while, now. So I’m effictively not posting for a long time.
It’s sort of liberating not writing for an audience. I get to experiment on crazy things without wondering whether an audience will like it, because it’s just draft one and I can always change it. And I can stop worrying about chapter size. And I just really have the freedom to keep the chapters rough because I’m definitely going to do deep revisions later on. So I can leave some things as an outline for myself, just to put things down.

OOh okay that sounds really fun and intersting! I’m so excited for this project now! It’s definitely sort of out of the things I’d automatically reach for, but I do love some light reads between heavy fantasy, and this sounds like so much fun!
Did I mention fun?

Aww, well, hopefully now he has a fanclub that wants him to live!

Exactly! Characters who are already going through hard times should get happy endings. It’s just the balance. I would never want Edin to die :frowning:

Yeah, sometimes the story just take it’s own direction. In my case, it’s usally only for shorter scenes and not for the whole book’s structure, but they still make some of the best scenes I’ve written.
Thanks for that, it’s really motivating me to write.

Awesome! Reminds me of that time where I learned that J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis were part of a writers’ club, something like that, and they’d meet at a pub or a cafe or something. You, me, and Churro can meet up at CAFE 89 and do something similar XD

What should we name it, though? :thonk:

:flushed: that’s a lot! I mean I was able to write about 15K words in a month, and it was a dumpster fire :ragejoy:

True. I’m doing something similar with some of my works. I do think that some of my stories that are on Wattpad right now will be made into actual published books, but they’d all be self-published if ever, and there’d still be drastic differences between the drafts on Wattpad and the final draft.

Yeah, and the thing about the Wattpad audience is that it’s different from the audience that reads published books. Wattpad audiences tend to prefer shorter chapters, shorter paragraphs, and overall have different expectations. Not to mention the direct reader interaction that can happen on Wattpad—which can be a good thing and a bad thing.

Thanks! I’m glad you find it fun  I definitely want to get this traditionally published, which is why I don’t want to post it on Wattpad or any other platform. The only way other people will read it while it’s still in its draft stage is if I share the document with them or if I physically show them the story on my laptop.

With that being said, I’m still years away from writing it. I have a lot of other writing projects XD as well as some books that I should really edit, haha

An Edin fan club? That’s sweet, but also really funny to me for some reason  I can just imagine him being weirded out that he actually has fans.

If one of my other characters (*cough* Eddie *cough*) has a fan club, I’d understand, because in the story he does have admirers XD (but he’s just not aware that he’s being admired).

Yup. The more stuff you have to go through, the sweeter your ending should be :relieved:

Unless you’re a character in one of the romances I’ve written. At least one of you has to die or something :ragejoy:

Idk but I’m a happy ending kind of person, so I tend to give happy endings to my characters regardless of how much pain they’ve endured. I guess I’m too soft sometimes, haha, because I don’t like seeing them suffer >.< unless they’re a villain or someone I’ve intentionally created to be unlikable, then I’d have no qualms with torturing/killing them :joy: the more I like a character, the more I’d want them to have a satisfying conclusion.

With that being said, I have penned some tragedies before. I’ve made people cry with my writing :ragejoy:

True. There were some scenes that I just spontaneously wrote, and then I was surprised at how well they aligned with my characters and the story as a whole. That’s why I can never be a 100% plotter—some of the scenes I most love are thanks to straying from the original plan :joy:

You’re welcome! If you ever need more motivation, you can call me (and maybe Churro) at CAFE 89

Hmm… @Churro any ideas?

Yeah! If only I was able to replicate that now, lol.

Yeah exactly. All the best for your publishing journey! I’ve chosen to go with traditional, but self publishing seems like a lot of fun, too!
And yeah, the audiences on wattpad are generally younger with a shorter attention span. It’s hard to write for that audience, and ultimately, my books don’t really fit the expectations of that demographic. So it’s easier to write for myself.

Ah it’s fine, I know I have a lot of projects planned, too. But it is really an interesting idea, so go for it! I hope you get the deal you’re looking for!

Ah haha. But tell Edin we’re here to love him unconditionally, even if he gets weirded out. He’s just so precious.

Ahh lol, that makes sense!

Ooh. I like happy endings, too, but only if they make sense in the context of the story. My most preffered end would be the one that makes sense for the story and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, more like bittersweet, where they acknowledge there’s more work to be done, but also look back on all they’ve accomoplished throughout the story. If that makes sense, that is.

Yup. I plot my works out, too, but pretty sparingly, like just an outline of major events that lead the story from start to end, but the rest is all just written on the spot. It’s what worked for my previous book, and I’m going to hope it works for this one, too. The only thing I know for sure about my process is that not plotting a chapter out, even the basic of what happens, demotivates me to write and I don’t write if I don’t know what the chapter is about.

Yes! And back at you!
