In this country I’m also not legally allowed to drink alcohol XD but in some other countries, I’m old enough.

Oh, he knows that other people know about it, but I didn’t tell him that the internet can see it

Basically in the story, after Edin left to confront Damon alone, Arden snuck into his castle. There she discovered his diary, which was lying open, and then ran after him. Chaos ensued, bla bla bla, and then after that she took his diary and presented it to her fellow seniors to reveal that Edin was hiding something from them.

At least, that’s what my bullet points say. I might change it when I actually write the scene XD

Remember that slideshow in the first post of Edin’s Diary? That’s basically from Arden’s point of view.

Edin knows that Arden’s read his entire diary. Depending on what I’ll end up writing, he may or may not know that some senior guardians have read parts of his diary too. What he doesn’t know is that the entire internet can access his diary

Speaking of him, poor Edin never wins polls. Here’s a recent one:

This guy can’t catch a break  it’s this poll in case you’re curious. Also, if you do happen to go to the poll, please be honest and vote for the battle song that you think sounds the most epic, not because you feel sorry for him

I can understand why they’d vote for Damon. I’m surprised Arden managed to get a vote because her battle song sounds more “unconventional” to me XD

Uh huh. It’s useful to work backwards sometimes. This is why I don’t draft linearly anymore—sometimes writing the later parts ahead actually helps :joy:

Personally, there’s nothing more satisfying finishing your book and marking it “complete” on Wattpad :relieved: on one hand it’s a bit sad that the journey has come to an end, but it’s also really satisfying to know that you’ve managed to end a book, and extra satisfying if you’re proud of the ending too.

It’s a really good book! There is a bit of swearing, though no uses of the f-word, and overall it’s just really gripping. Speaking of which, I should probably finish that >.> but I’m also reading another book, and I have to finish that other book soon because I’m borrowing it from the library and I have to return it soon XD

Considering how you love Anne Frank’s diary, I think you’ll likely enjoy this one!

I do! Usually. I mean, there is a classic I didn’t really enjoy (Pride and Prejudice) but in general I like them. The genre doesn’t really matter to me—unless it’s erotica. No smut please, I want to keep my eyes pure

Anne of Green Gables! I read the whole series back in secondary school. Oh right, I’ve started reading Black Beauty on Apple Books (they have it for free there), but I haven’t gone past the first few chapters because I forgot about them  I do remember enjoying it, though. I haven’t heard of Eight Cousins yet :eyes:

I love The Little Prince! The used bookstore near my campus has the original French version, and I might get that, except I have really basic French  I saw there’s a bilingual version available too, with half the page in French and the other half in English :open_mouth:

That’s a great way to learn a language. Just curious, but how much French do you know? :eyes:

Ooooh, I’ve never heard of this before. I might check it out! It’s really cool to see fantasy inspired by other cultures.

Ah yes, I love Harry Potter! I finally finished the final book over the winter break. Who are your favorite characters? Mine would have to be the twins, Fred and George.

I’ve only managed to read an excerpt of her work back in sixth grade, as part of English class. I remember liking her writing style. I hope to pick it up soon!

The poll’s been open for more than a week. Writers on the Block has won :joy:

@Churro I guess we can call ourselves “Writers on the Block” now

Hi!!!

(lol I came back on my birthday)

19

Hi!

Oh, Happy Birthday! :tada:

Ohh. I’m not legally old enough in any country. Not even to drive in my own, although I think I’m old enough to get a driver’s liscence in the US.

Damn lol that’s a lot of stuff to put on the poor guy. And we’re bascially invading his privacy.
But poor guy can never catch a break

Lol I’m going to check them out now!

Yeah true. I usually draft linearly only, but sometimes, like on the description thread, I get ahead of myself and start plotting for scenes ahead, so I let that flow when it strikes. Whether or not it will make it to the book is a different thing.
And I agree, it’s so awesome to mark something complete and be done with it. I’ve done it with only one book, the terrible draft one that’s now unpublished, but I remember the relief and joy I felt at that.

Ooh. Onto my tbr then. I’m currently waiting to get a new kindle before buying any more books, and I have one book that I’m getting as soon as I get the kindle, but this will come after that for sure!

Same here. I tried sense and sensibility once, and it was really really boring for me.

I didn’t know it was a series until a while ago lol. I read all of these books back in 5th or 6th when I used to go to a library, and they had them so I read those books. I don’t remember much of the others, except Anne of Green Gables, but I do remember enjoying them. Maybe I’ll do a reread soon.

I haven’t read it yet, but I do think the original would be fun to read. I know quite a bit of french, I’ve been learning it as my third language in school from 5th grade, and I think I know french equivalent to a french 4th grader. Bascially around the B2 level, but I don’t really have any certifications for it yet. I plan to get them soon, though.

It is! It’s awesome. The book was hyped a lot for me, and the best part is that it lived up to that hype. It was just a stunning book, and it’s also a comp title for my wip, so I really wanted to read it. Now I’m in love with it.

ooh. I’ve read it a ton of times, and I would say my favourite would be somewhat cliche - it’s Hermione. I used to love seeing her in the book and onscreen, she was totally like the bad*ss female I’d love to be - smart and skilled both.

It is great! I’d love to see your thoughts when you read it!

We are Writers on the Block, then!

Happy birthday!!

Wait, how old do you have to be get a driver’s license in the US?

*Googles*

Between 16 and 18, depends on the state.

Speaking of which, I should get a driver’s license. I could’ve gotten one as early as a few years ago back in my home country, but then things happened—like the pandemic—and now I’m here  my aunt did tell me that I can get one in the US, and it’s apparently not hard? Idk. I’ll ask the international students’ office here for more info later.

Yeah. On the bright side, personal threads are technically hidden, since you need to be logged into the forum to be able to view them. It’s sort of private and public at the same time XD

But, is it really invading privacy if he technically started it? It all started because while I was texting myself, he sort of “possessed” my fingers and typed out the draft of the first love letter out of impulse. When I looked at it I was like “I had no idea you could write like that” :joy:

Speaking of love letters, er, when the second love letter comes out, be prepared. Remember when he mentioned dreaming about “becoming one” with her? He’ll talk about that more in the next love letter.

And brace yourself for the third one because it almost made me change my opinion of him :joy:

Thanks! And I saw your choice—you picked Damon

I can just imagine Damon’s smug smirk and Edin’s heartbroken frown. He never wins in polls :joy:

Nice. Wait, correct me if I’m wrong, but some of the scenes you put on the description thread are actually you plotting for future scenes? I wasn’t aware of that! Oh, right, I should write out the rest of the prompts

Hopefully you’ll be able to experience that feeling again, this time with a draft that’s much better!

Oh, you have a Kindle? I didn’t know! I have the Kindle app on my laptop but I never use it :joy: I’m the kind of person who only wants to pay for physical books. I do read ebooks sometimes, though.

I can’t wait to know what you think of it :eyes: it’s a really good read—so far. I think I’ll finish that over the weekend.

For me, the book was basically filled with “aww” moments and “meh” moments. There were more “meh” moments than “aww” ones. I do understand how some people like them, and I will admit that they’re good books, but just not my type.

Rereads are really nice, especially when you’re rereading a book with a gripping plot and so many twists and memorable moments :relieved: that’s what I felt when I was rereading my all-time favorite. I’m barely done rereading it, but I will get to it once I’ve “cleared” my shelf.

Oh, you’re way better than me then :joy: I only know a tiny amount of French from fourth grade to sixth grade, but even then, I don’t remember much of it. I sort of tried “relearning” it on my own, but I just didn’t have the discipline.

I have a book that’s partially set in France with a French main character. I thought it was alright, until a French-educated person told me that one of my sentences was very formal (it wasn’t supposed to be) and that I’ve unintentionally made my characters curse, like, severely :flushed: :joy:

And this is why you pay extra attention to incorporating other languages >.>

Awesome! I’ll find out more about it and see if I’ll read it, but so far it sounds up my alley

The good kind of cliché  I just find it really cool how she was able to thrive in a magical school despite coming from a muggle background. I think she may or may not have inspired one of my paranormal writing projects, in a way. Although my characters can never compare to her or any other character. Like, that’s what I admire about J. K. Rowling—her characterization is amazing :sparkles: like how do I write characters like that :smiling_face_with_tear:

I’ll let you know!

And let us celebrate by heading to CAFE 89 :joy:

Yeah, I’m currently 16. So I’d be allowed to drive in some places, but in India, I’ve got to wait another two years (or one, I was marked as 17 for my vaccination, but I haven’t completed 17 so maybe this birthday I’d be of legal age?)

Yeah, you definitely should get one! A driver’s license is essential, if you want to drive. I wonder though, if you get a license in the US, would it still be valid worldwide? Hm…

Hm… that’s true. I feel for you, getting possesed by a character has not got to be fun. And besides, he did show it to you, so I guess that’s not really invading his privacy lol.

Okay wow, now I’m sort of worried. Edin, what are you up to??

Lol Edin never does, sadly. But this time, Damon’s win was well-deserved. Edin does have a cool song, but Damon’s is the one that sounds most battle-like and intense.

Right! I don’t actually plan for that to happen. I pick an image prompt, write the scene, and then I realize it actually could go into the story, so it probably will. Lol, it just happens without me wanting it to happen.

Yeah! Though I don’t know if I’m going to post this book to wattpad at all. I might just for beta review’s sake for a short period, because the interest in this wip has been great on the forums and multiple people have asked to see it once I finish, so I might do it for a few weeks and take it down when querying again.

I used to :pensive:, but I don’t anymore, somehow it got into an irreparable state. I might buy one in a few months again, though. So then I’m getting the broken earth trilogy and then the book thief.

Oh, I get that. I want to read some classics again, I think, it’s been ages since I read any and all of the ones I read were a long time ago, so yeah…

Oooh which book is that? I reread The Jasmine Throne about a month after I finished the original read, and it made me fall in love even more. My copy is currently with a friend, but once I get it back, I’m going to do another reread. And focus on the writing this time.
I have a pretty limited bookshelf, and since my kindle broke, I’ve been stuck rereading the same books or reading on wattpad, so I totally get the value of rereads lol.

Ohh. French was one of my main subjects in my board exams (public std 10 exams), and I’m bummed I can’t take french in 11th, but I know I eventually want to study French again. It’s a subject I used to love, and I’ve also been on an exchange to France during school, which was open to french students only.
That exchange was magical, and I barely made the cut to go - it was first come first serve with who fills the forms, but one person dropped out and I was next on the list. But my family was also considering moving, in which case it would’ve been impossible. But none of the obstacles were a problem, and I barely made it onto the program, and get this - I was a part of the last batch to have exchange, because Covid struck the next year.

Lol yes. I know french, but mostly only bookish french. I still wouldn’t know too much slang or casual language like I do with english. I did learn quite a lot while I was on exchange, but I wouldn’t say I know a lot.

Yay! Let me know if you do read it, I’d love to discuss it with someone, I really love the book!

Yeah I agree! JK Rowling is awesome at writing, and she balances out characters’ traits so well - it’s not like Hermione’ smarts are constantly pushed in our face, but at the same time it’s one of her defining chracteristics.

lol sorry

Oh. Wait, how could you be marked as 17 for your vaccination but be 16? I know Koreans calculate their age differently but I’m not sure about other countries. Maybe it was an error?

This birthday, you’ll be legally old enough to drive in my country. There, you’re legally an adult once you hit 17.

Yeah, except that I don’t have a car and I just walk around XD idk. It’s just that when people talk about driving or driver’s licenses, I just ache deep inside and it makes me feel severely left out, especially when someone’s talking about passing a driving test as soon as she’s old enough and I’m happy but at the same time want to bawl my eyes out because as someone who’s been legally old enough I can’t really get one because of citizenship and residency and international student issues and having different laws and processes in both my home countries that makes things even tougher

Anyway forget what I said :flushed: I was sort of venting  but I will try to get one.

There’s an international license, and I think it’s separate.

It wasn’t fun because I was supposed to be doing homework, but he was like “I can’t keep this inside anymore and I need to let it out” >.> even worse was that he kept doing it, so I was like “I might as well make something out of this”

It’s funny because he’s the only character who’s done that so far. My favorite character, Eddie, lingers in my headspace the most (I think about him a ton) but he’s never seized control of my fingers before. Edin, on the other hand…

You’ll find out :eyes: but if you want, you can ask @Churro about the second paragraph of the second love letter. He helped me with rewording the sentences and all. Anyway, remember when Edin wrote that he feels like he’s drifting into madness because he’s falling in love? He’s getting “crazy in love” alright :joy:

True. Damon’s battle theme is also the song I chose for one particular battle scene because I thought it was so epic XD

At one point in the story, Damon will forcefully fuse with Edin to form a new person called “ED.” After some manipulation, Edin finally joins Damon (temporarily!) and they start taking over territory. Damon’s battle theme, WARZ0NE, is the song that’ll play once ED faces the remaining guardians outside one of the major cities in Idelhen. ED almost wins, but then he’s stopped. Guess who stopped him?

Arden. Then her theme, LHAHEIN, plays and she enters the battlefield alone while the other guardians retreat. That part at the beginning that’s mostly vocals and beating drums is her marching towards them, ready to fight. They’ll battle, except this time Damon’s seizing control of ED’s body while Edin’s trying to hold Damon back so that he won’t kill Arden XD

Inspiration sometimes comes when you least expect it  that’s what happens to me too XD

Awww :pensive: well at least you’ll be getting a newer one. In my case I’ve told myself not to get any new books, because I need to save money and I already have a ton of books on my shelf. The only exception will be Bone Crier’s Dawn, which is the sequel to a book that I’ve already bought (but haven’t read).

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I haven’t even gotten through the first few chapters because I want to focus on finishing books I haven’t read, but it had already made me feel all good inside. It also makes me feel weird because the main character shares the same name as one of my characters, so every time I read it I’m like “they’re not the same they’re not the same they’re not the same” XD

Yeah, rereading is so nice :relieved:

Wow, talk about being lucky. When I went on the exchange program to Japan, it was supposed to be six girls and four boys (we partnered with an all-girls school and an all-boys school). However, only five girls were interested, and they got another boy instead :joy: so he’s lucky too. What happened was that one of the other girls had two host sisters instead of just one.

The French I remember is bookish too. The closest I can get to writing informal French is using “tu” instead of “vous,” but other than that I don’t really know. I just search up slang on Google.

I think English is the only language where I can understand slang and very informal language. People say that even my Indonesian is bookish, whereas my bro speaks like a local XD I mean, I can understand, but I don’t really speak informally.

I know right? She’s one of those authors who manages to make me think “I should steal this line/description” whenever I read her books :joy: like when she described shadows as rippling when they walked through the tunnel and stuff. It’s one thing to be descriptive, and it’s another to be really good at it.

Actually, I don’t think it was. See, when I say I’m 16, I mean I’ve lived sixteen complete years and this year is my 17th. This is what we call complete age and running age, My running age is 17. According to the government, I’m 17. And then according to the same thing, I’ll be 18 next year, although my 18th birthday (when I will have lived for 18 complete years) is in November of the next year.

Wow, so I’m legally allowed to drive in quite a few places!

Lol don’t worry about it. Things are complicated, esp. internationally lol.

Ohh

Lol damn, Edin is a really strong character. That’s a good thing - it means he has a really strong personality, at least. Makes it easier to write about him, I think.

Oh well. Edin needs revenge for all his pain somehow. He won’t take it on the characters in the story, he’s smart enough to know they are middlemen, and you’re the one to take revenge from.

Okay, damn. Edin :eyes:

Oooh the scene sounds EPIC. The songs definitely suit the theme, and I love it!

Exactly! Inspo comes from anywhere and anytime.

Yeah exactly. I read Ebooks way more than paperbacks or hardcovers, but my dad has a lot of paperbacks, so many more than me, and that’s why I’m not allowed to get many paperbacks or hardbacks. I get those once in 3-4 years. But ebooks I’m allowed to get as many as I want, at the rate of usually 1 per month, unless we’re going on vacation or it’s my birthday. Or it’s vacation month.

Yeah, favourite books can make you feel that way. I’ve reread a ton of my favs on wattpad as well - and I’m usually very picky with my reading taste, but that only means I have more favourite books because I know already that I’m going to like it. There’s very few mediorce or didn’t like it reads for me.

XD lolllll

So nice! And you also get to pay attention to all those little nuggets of foreshadowing and just masterful writing and all. It’s just so much fun.

Ohh that’s really lucky too! It was so awesome when I got the news that I was going, I got pulled out of a class and for some reason I had an intuition it was about the exchange, I was so happy. And then my parents told me we might be moving. And I so damn sad about that, because I’ve been moving all my life almost every year or every other year until I was in 2nd grade, we lived in the same place for almost 5 years, and then we came here. So I’d just hoped we didn’t have to move ever again, but thankfully we didn’t, and it was awesome.
I can just imagine that guy being really really happy about it, like I was. I was estatic when they announced that I was going, and it’s just awesome!

Ohhh. Even I speak very little of my mother tongue - I’ve been raised mostly out of my state and came here when I was in 7th grade, so I’m not very good with my language of origin. And consequently not very good with the main language of India - hindi, because of even more complicated reasons, but mostly that I lived in the south for a lot of my early life and the south speaks English more than Hindi.

Yeah, JK Rowling’s writing is just awesome!

Oh, I see. I’ve never heard of running age, only completed age (what I just call “age”) and Korean age, and that’s it. That’s interesting!

Yup. It also helps that he was one of the first characters in the story to materialize, and that the story revolves around him more—although Arden gets the spotlight in the second book, and they share the spotlight in the final book. He doesn’t come off as that strong though, because he’s surrounded by strong people and looks “weak” in comparison XD

B-but I gave him a happy ending! >.>

You know Edin I could’ve just followed what other people told me and killed you ya know, so stop it  but in a way it’s helping my plotting too, so, you can keep doing it, I guess. Just when I’m not doing homework or studying >.>

Don’t make me bring Loren back from the dead and shove him and Arden together and make you die alone XD JK JK don’t possess my fingers again pls

Or maybe I should send Eddie to keep him in check :thonk: Eddie is a strong character and he’s smarter too, but he’s just an ordinary human. Bloodthirsty Edin will wipe the floor with Eddie. I guess I’ll tell Arden to keep him in check XD

Thanks! It’s going to happen in the second book, which is going to be from Arden’s perspective (mostly). It’s gonna be really dramatic, especially Act IV. I’m not sure if even the final book will be able to top that in terms of how rollercoaster-ish it can be XD

I see. In my case I never get ebooks, unless we’re talking free ebooks or Wattpad books. I’d get new books at the rate of 1 a year at most :smiling_face_with_tear: which is why when I moved into my dorm and got my allowance, one of the first things I did was order a bunch of books. And it made me broke because I just kept on buying books XD but I have a lot more funds now in my account, and I’m really going to control my budget. I’m about to pass the first week by spending less than my self-imposed allowance for the week ($20) so I hope I’ll have at least $200 in my account after the semester ends.

I’m also a really picky reader, haha. That’s actually why I didn’t read on Wattpad for a few years—everything that I stumbled upon was either trash (full of grammar and spelling mistakes), cliché, smutty, or basically anything I wasn’t interested in. I only got back into reading in 2020 because that’s the year I started diving into the Wattpad Writers forums, and found Wattpad books that I actually enjoyed XD

Yes, the foreshadowing! It’s so cool to see all these hints and little details being laid out and you just wonder how the author was able to weave them in subtly enough, but also not too subtly so that when something happens you remember those details.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of moving. I’ve only moved house twice: the first time when I was about five and the second time at around the end of 2020 and the start of 2021. It’s great that you managed to get it!

Yeah, I think he was really happy. That guy is also from a really rich family, as in regularly gets four-course dinners and his dad owns part of a European soccer team, so they get to fly to Italy and watch matches there :flushed:

That Japan trip made me feel poor, because all their parents gave them huge allowances. The boys freaking bought Nike shoes in Tokyo, and one girl bought luggage. Meanwhile I was like saving money XD

I get that feeling. When you’re better at English than your native language because of circumstances. Like, I have two native languages technically, but I’m way better at English than them.
