Yeah cause Dez is a himbo lol.
100 percent. Most of my music is writing related, songs or bands/artists Iâve listened to for years, and certain moods. Itâs a bit of everything.
I think theyâre fine as well, but who knows. If they didnât sit right with her, then so be it. Maybe they seem fine to us because we listen to far worse/dirtier things. Not discriminative, but dark, dirty, you know. (Or at least I know I do)
He is. He respects women, is a good friend, but heâs so dumb haha
Maybe it is that lol, I donât get offended easily.
Exactly. I am not easily offended earlier. maybe itâs a thing from growing up in the 90s - shows and music from that time werenât so watered down.
My ex sis in law, who is still my best friend, was watching old eisodes of COPS (an old cop reality show from the 90s here in North America) and she said seeing episodes from the 90s and from the revival in the early 2010s was like a slap in the face in terms of content and how manipulated it was later on. It wasnât censored at all when I was growing up.
I think if everything is censored then we wonât appreciate the good things, and plus, if characters are Bad it adds conflict. Why do we want everything to be pleasant and sanitised. Stories are meant to show the range. If you canât tell right from wrong yourself then thatâs on you.
THIS. Censoring and gatekeeping everything takes away accountability on the bad side and authenticity on the good side. We need to see the bad to hold people accountable. We need to see authentic. And we need to be able to judge for ourselves right and wrong. We know what right and wrong is. Censoring everything doesnât help.
Exactly. Thatâs one of the reasons Iâve been getting back into older music like the Sex Pistols. They were abrasive but they werenât stupid. And I think if youâre being rebellious and you know the reasons why youâre being that way (towards governments, etc) then youâve got to be smart in some way to think about things and disagree with it.
Yes, itâs one reason I do self-publish. The big publishers have been dictating what goes to the market for too long.
Itâs unfair.
And when they want to force diversity to tick off a box instead of letting it happen naturally. Annoys me a lot.
Absolutely! They were rebellious but acknowledged they werenât the only ones oppressed by society and accepted the others who were also oppressed and that is what revolution is all about. Is coming together, not being divided by all the divisive politics we see today. Weâre so distracted by what the media hypes up and behind the scenes the government is just getting away with hella sketchy stuff. True rebels see it. They fight it. They swim through the divisive stuff and hammer against the true injustices.
I respect it honestly. Also he just seems like a nice normal guy outside of that.
This. Itâs one thing to write or include diverse characters when youâre writing from experience and itâs a natural inclusion, but itâs another when youâre stuffing them in just for the sake of being politically correct. It feels fake. Iâd rather leave that writing for the people who live it and know it. Theyâre writing some amazing stories out there. They donât need my help lol
Totally. I had another previous book, my rock star series, so I read a lot about musicians for that too lol Some of it is so fascinating.
Of course. Or if you have researched things very well, and have sensitivity readers as well. As long as it comes naturally, and it doesnât offend people deliberately, then itâs fine. If youâre stuffing them all in, then yeah, it is fake.
And there are a lot of people out there who arenât recognized enough who are writing brilliant stories, and they donât get the popularity, as well as the people who are popular and writing good things.
What were some of the bands you were inspired by?
This. Sensitivity readers are so important.
Absolutely. Itâs sad to see.
Fleetwood Mac (their history is just wild and fascinating), Aerosmith (Steven Tylerâs story about fatherhood and how he failed then repaired his relationship with his daughters is so endearing), Def Leppardâs music was a massive inspiration. The Runaways (being teenage girls who formed a band and went on massive tours then fell apart). Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue (his struggle with addiction, and SIXX Amâs music is a big inspiration.) Very much inspired by old rock and their stories.
Yeah, I think that putting things up on Wattpad helps with that in a way too. Well, it can. But I do think that you need them in real life more when youâre about to publish a story,
I agree. As long as its âmarketableâ it doesnât matter âhow bad it isâ.
