Brain: I must finish this battle scene. It is a very serious part of the book and sets up the rest of the series.

Characters: sass, sarcasm, trash talking, more sass

Brain: Honestly why I bother-

I HAVE TO WRITE, BUT MY RACING AND DISTRACTING MIND WONā€™T LET ME!!!

I am so hyper-fixed on something else that I canā€™t seem to gain motivation to work on my story projects.

Ugh! :disappointed:

Can you maybe focus on some other aspect of writing the book that will help you later? Like filling out character sheets, making mood boards, playlists, worldbuilding bible, timeline of events that need to happen, character arcs, research, things like that? When I canā€™t focus on actually writing, I try doing supportive stuff like that instead. Maybe itā€™ll helpā€¦? ĀÆ\_(ļ¢)_/ĀÆ

Sadly, I canā€™t even focus on that.
I am too mentally preoccupied with something else.

I havenā€™t been journaling since early this month and canā€™t seem to make myself to journal down my daily days, mainly because I barely do things. Though these past few days some stuffs have been going on, yet itā€™s not enough.

Whatever, I suppose.

Amazon shipped my DVD of Little Women today, and yes, I ordered it mostly because TimothĆ©e Chalametā€™s in it, why do you ask? But I also wanted to see it. Itā€™s supposed to be faithful to the book, so after I watch it on my Kindle tomorrow at the gym I get to mark that book as read on Goodreads even though Iā€™m never going to read it. I also ordered Barbie! But that doesnā€™t seem to be a book. (惎_<态)ćƒ¾(Ā“ā–½ļ½€)

Recently watched a recording of what I assume was a rabbinical / Jewish conference at a synagogue in the UK(?), and the guest speaker was Douglas Murray. He had some interesting quotes that could suit my characters, or their backgrounds.

When Ivanov, and the shattered remnants of his Spetsnaz platoon, swore allegiance to a young flustered Karen during the founding of her mercenary army,* Ivanov would probably have used Douglasā€™ quotation from the Book of Ruth: Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. A subtle indication that Ivanov, and his Russians, are well-read / cultured and they have great respect Karen (and the Jewish community).

*A draft plot of Ivanov's decision to stay with Karen...extracted from another long-dormant thread...

While contemplating how to justify Ivanov and his platoon joining Karenā€™s new army, and swearing absolute allegiance to her, I decided the discovery of a hidden act of charity (extreme foolish bravery) by Karen would put Ivanvoā€™s decision beyond dispute.

This hasnā€™t been written up yet (and I donā€™t know which story to put it in), but while Ivanovā€™s team are settling into Karenā€™s villa she will learn of a KGB hit-team arriving in Israel to kill Ivanovā€™s platoon (tie-up loose ends). Karen asked Zorik for help, and to keep the discovery a secret (not to frighten their new housemates).

On their way the Beā€™er Sheva the KGB assassins met a gathering of ā€˜very uncooperativeā€™ shepherds; Zorik, Jacob, Amos and several of Amosā€™ Bedouin tribe (all ex-Special Forces, Karenā€™s other recruits, and Zorikā€™s army friends).

When Ivanov heard about several Soviet agents turning up dead (from severe lead poising) in the desert, and he realised their intended targets, Ivanov eventually pried the battleā€™s details from Karen (only cost him two bottles of Vodka). Karen also confessed that she did not alert Ivanov to the threat because she felt responsible for Ivanvoā€™s (and his teamā€™s) safetyā€¦and so this was her problem to handleā€¦and she did not wish to cause them undue concern. Karen was also confident that despite her companionsā€™ wounds, the assassins were no match for them.

After that conversation, and the tenacious hangover, Ivanov decided Karen was worth staying with and fighting for.

And the closing of Douglasā€™ initial presentation (that follows from his Ruth quote) would probably suit Dovā€™s formal declaration of loyalty / friendship to Karenā€™s housemates, or to Avivaā€™s parents; a kibbutz family that Dov met during his first trip to Israel (their only child, Aviva, adopted Dov as her companion, and she later died shielding him from a rocket). Much to the profound embarrassment of the declarationā€™s recipients.

Douglasā€™ quote of ā€œto be a Jew is to have a sense of memoryā€ is interesting in regards to my character, Freyja. Her life began at the (apparent) age of 14. Freyja only has genetic (DNA) memory, no conscious memoriesā€¦not before her experience of waking up nestled in Dovā€™s lap, in the backseat of an Alpina gran coupe, en-route to the Tel Aviv beach promenade (my characters really suffer sometimes)ā€¦

Utterly random thought. I intend to have Dov, and Freyja, enlist themselves as Kristaā€™s bodyguardsā€¦Dovā€™s solution to Kristaā€™s unrelenting fear of abandonmentā€¦Perhaps, to make everything official, Karenā€™s mercenaries hold a military-style ceremony, with everyone (including Kristaā€™s teddy bear collection) gathered in the villaā€™s dining hall, in formal military dress. Kristaā€™s ā€˜anointmentā€™ of Dov would be similar to Grimaldusā€™ in the Helsreach animation.
