Strange Things You've Had to Research for Your Writing

Do braids count as a weird thing to research?

Depends?

I have very thin straight hair so have had to research how to braid other types of hair because two of my current three MCs have thick curly hair. And braids are cool and look awesome so thought I’d give them to my characters as styles :relieved:

Agreed that they look awesoe!

Def not weird! Though some styles can be quite out there, haha. Braiding is an art!

What a dog wagging its tail can mean besides being happy

I feel like if this isn’t real my whole life has been a lie!

Fly away xD

nervous laughter

Apparently in parrots it can upset their electrolyte balance

I’ve watched too many videos of kittens meowing-

Yes

There’s also things like if the tail is stiff while wagging, it can be agitation or hostility.

It’s very cool to learn about too. I can’t do it with my own hair but I do enjoy seeing how its done for my characters

go on :eyes:

weirdly yes they can, in some older european stories they return to (un)life and frequently to their wives with. ahem. pointed sticks, flapping in the wind. this is because swift, violent deaths can result in postmortem pointed sticks, so when a suspected vampire was exhumed for inspection this would be discovered and considered evidence that the person had returned as a vampire.

although that information probably isn’t useful if you’re writing, say, vampire romance where the boner has to come and go and not just be a foreverboner.

current wip is research heavy so here’s some:

  • What batteries do satellites use
  • what batteries to solar panels use
  • A rabbithole on Proxima b and its planets
  • Got distracted by the Lich pulsar star and its orbiting planets; Draugr, Polergeist, and Phobetor
  • How much or how little gravity a human can live in.
  • Cree mining terms. Got a cool list but unfortunately it was all in handwritten Cree syllabics which I cannot read.
  • Physics. just… as a concept. I couldn’t put my finger on what the study of physics was exactly, but don’t worry I figured it out. I’m not stupid I’m just bad at math.
