Well, that works, but nymphs aren’t really curtailed in their definition unless an author does it. Really, it’s random female spirits that the satyrs bone when not doing each other.
Sometimes I think that Satyrs and Nymphs more come from our thoughts on erotic pottery than on literature.
In my Assassin series, there is the father of the Satyrs, who in half form looks more like a satyr, but when full-fledged, is a minotaur. But there are no nymphs, just humans that are annoyed that there’s no human men on world’s where he’s fathered children. Lmao
I have never heard of a single story told from either of the nature spirit’s perspective.
" In classical Athens in a genre of play known as a “satyr play”, which was a parody of tragedy and was known for its bawdy and obscene humor. The only complete surviving play of this genre is Cyclops by Euripides, although a significant portion of Sophocles’s Ichneutae has also survived."
Really, Satyrs we’re walking dick jokes.
Ancient Mel Brooks?
But they could be tutors…I think they aspect was taken over by Centuars, as they are less a joke.
Well, less snipsnip than Mel.
But we get Satire from Satyrs.
Centaurs are very wild and scary, though. Like wild horses in the real world.
They can be, since it was based on warhorses being rode into battle.
Now I’m thinking of six-legged centaurs.
I can barely take it anymore, why does it always seem like nobody understands or cares? I get that they may say they understand, but on the inside I just have this feeling that’s telling me that they are lying. I lost a friend because of this and I don’t know what to do anymore. It’s driving me insane, and I’m always angry right? So it makes it even harder to not lash out or retort because I can’t control my emotions very well. I honestly regret everything because of it
daily dos of free therapy
(to be taken with a handful of salt i am no professional just an idiot online)
unfortuntely context is really important in situations like this but i get if you dont want to share that online.
90% of the time is someone says they care or understand, chances are they’re at least TRYING to do that. not many people have the emotional energy to pretend to be nice to someone they cant be bothered with. Humans are far too selfish for that.
as fas as the emotions, i know you say they are hard to control period but try to notice which things in particular tend to set in an uncontrollable state, and than see how you can avoid those for a little bit or find ways to balance it out
I am glad that @SayWatt said something by far wiser than I could have managed, but at the very least you know that we see you and as writers we see our share of emotional wreck bad days and how feeling misunderstood feels. I hope you can find your way through to the other side.
And, woah, She Kills Elephants and Men suddenly ranked 11 in romance… which makes even less sense than Trapped by the Mafia, because it had 7 (seven) individual readers yesterday and no increase in reads at all. Given how niche it is, and how counter to everything Wattpad stands for, I expect the rank to drop in 15 minutes. Basically, my biggest wish here is that this insane stroke of good fortune takes it to 25K reads, which means adding like 80 reads. Trapped by the Mafia had an insane 10 or so hours when it ranked, still visible on its individual readers log in a vaguely phallic shape, heh. If only I could live like that every day… I’d be so happy.
@saywatt said it way better than I could.
We feel you here, though <3
The problem I usually have is that I can’t say with my voice what is in my head, so whenever I get into arguments or anything I always fluff up and ruin everything. So instead I tend to write it down, probably because I’m a writer. I’m way better at expressing using written word that voicing.
It’s like the one thing that always causes friction for me, so I tend to try and get people to idk text or let me write it down.
Dont know if the context works for you with that, but trying different ways of expressing your emotions might help you
Here I am at 40, and I don’t want people to understand me, just want them to not drive me insane, daily.
The concept that others can fully know you is rather lost on me because I can usually demonstrate that people don’t even really know themselves, so I don’t hold much hope in people relating to me all that well. Self-awareness is a rarely used trait in humans even though it’s a defining statement of sentience.
So, it’s a nice surprise when they do.
But the reality is that the things I want most from others is going to be the hardest things to get, even when they try.
They have their own crushing failures to live with, as well.
It is hardest for those who can’t get their own words out.
But all this aside, the more pressing concern is that friends aren’t therapists/counselors, and treating them like that is the easiest way to lose them because people who are untrained don’t know how to handle burdens that require some skill to handle.
Yes, friends do need to show some loyalty when people are down, but if there is a neverending cycle of down, then you need the tools that uplift you, not someone else who has nothing to trade.
…
I currently have a friend since college who has always been a downer, and since the stroke, is even less capable at figuring out herself. She lives with me.
I don’t try to understand her. That is not my role in her life. Therapy is from a therapist, and I will not be that.
But I’m still here for her and all her crazy antics.
Really, sometimes it’s easier to burden strangers with your thoughts than it is friends.
Part of this is because I can just dump it all out and walk on as if nothing happened.
Part of it is because the stranger ain’t invested in me, has no warm feelings getting in the way of telling me about myself–politely, and doesn’t have to care about my expectations.
But the reality is that when you go to friends with your problems, you both have baggage:
Expectations of who you are
Expectations of who you have been
Expectations of tying in this hella crazy moment into the trust they otherwise have for you
Expectations of nothing changing because you’ve unburdened yourself
Really, there’s so much juggled round a difficult conversation that it’s a wonder anyone communicates.
WELL I finished my NaNoWriMo novel! FINALLY
82,000 words. Started November 1st, finished 15th December.
It’s a mess. The ending is plot-wise fine, but I’m not 100% with it.
I don’t care, thats what editing is for
I’m just pleased to be done for now. I think I do this thing where I write so much in bursts and then I get excited by something new and I dont like it.
I suppose thats normal though.
But I’m happy with the plot, I just need to flesh out the ending when I edit.
happier than I have been with an ending to a book I’ve written for a long time though SO YAY
