Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 1)

Does he mean sensational?

That wouldn’t change the pace, it would just add outrageousness.

And this is why I want to self publish.

No. It doesn’t change the pacing at all. Just a little tweak (not compulsory to the story line) cuz funny thing is, he said that my chapter picks up the story beats (this I knew before he said it, because I’m kinda specialized in this genre LMAO), and it hits the cliche card which he’s looking forward to in every book (I don’t know if I should be flattered because of it :upside_down_face:) Basically, I just do my story how I want to read in any book in this genre. Wattpad or published books. That’s it.

So, he just tried to give an idea how it could be more attention grasping and it would be a must-read story (to him).

Haha it’s hard to explain since you haven’t read my chapter. But it does leave me pondering about the level of boldness I should go :))

I believe with chicklit genre, Wattpad, Inkitt, Radish, or other audience out there would enjoy the same thing  PS: I dont read a lot of romance and chicklit books online unless I did r4r and I was the judge. I’m more paperback person.

Nick: I want it bold and brash.

Readers: More like it belongs in the trash!

LOL. I should experiment a bit lmao. But with the level of my boldness, I dont have problem in gaining a large audience. So, haha, lemme ponder a bit

I’m brazen as hell, although I wouldn’t be “hitting beats” otherwise.

I just deem it plain insanity.

You can always try it Nick’s way and see which one you like better! I mean, to me, it makes sense to at least try it Nick’s way if you went to ask him for an advice. It is kinda odd if people just go there to disagree with what he says…

I started this morning by looking at the last chapter and realizing that my gut instinct is right, it has to be 2. It’s not the length, it’s the events that drive the two scenes. So, the first part still needs just an edit, but the second, I will have to go through adding more to frame it and do a stronger emotional reactions. I wish I could put a spacer of some sort to break two events apart more, but there is none I can think of and I want the book to move to its conclusion.

Yeah going to end the chapter in two ways, and I’ll look for some betas to give me their opinion about it. I still have time before I post it.
Yeah, Nick is actually very helpful with capturing audience/readers’ attention and very generous with writing advice. At the end of the day, I write to reach my audience. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother publishing it

It happens a lot to me. Like, there is something I still can do with the chapter but just cant find what. I would just go ahead, and often, the idea would just hit me later. I hope you’re writing it offline. Enough room to tweak the earlier chapters.

No, this part I am writing live (it’s chapter 80), but it doesn’t matter because I use Wattpad for feedback and once a couple of people finish the book and give me their advice, I will be writing the final draft. I will probably leave it as is, because I feel that everything that needed to be said, was, and if I put anything there, it would be a useless buffer.

Are nymphs elves? As in, if you never met a nymph before, you’d think they were elves?

Believe me, this is important.

Fair. This is one of ways to get beta.

Smart. I think buffer would make the story/scene less on point. I learned it hard way with my first book which has 140k words when i could have done it in 90k words or smth.
Man, I really need to rewrite that book!

“Hey look, I didn’t know they had elves in Midgaurd.”

“I’m a nymph you ignorant pig!”

If I met elves before, but not nymphs, it would depend on how many other faery creatures I know of. If it was just elves, I would think they are a type of elves. If not, I would have an inkling they are different.

@pipwusa It’s still a long book, but it is a finale, so the time for side stories and diversions is past. well, at least imo.

No. Nymphs can pass for human. Elves, no matter their iterations, do not.

Ah I see.

Only thing is that I’ve never heard of a male Nymph. Are they all female or are they just never mentioned?

Nymphs, dryads, nereids and naiads are always female, but in modern writing people make them male as well (at least dryads)

I mean, Spock is an Elf. That ain’t human.

Now, nymphs as dryads is not the same thing, and dryads are tree spirits, which you could toss in either category, if you have all of elves and various spooks tossed into the Tuathe de.

The male nature spirits are like satyrs, fawns, tritons and lesser known

Ah yes.

I know that Saytrs are the male counterpart to Nymphs but I don’t know if Nymphs like Saytrs that much. I think that Tritons fill the role for Neirids.

I always assumed that Nymphs’ life force was connected to little plants, like flowers, grasses, and herbs. They’re just more mobile than the Dryads are.
