I would need to find some small companies later on.
A larger one is too much competition whereas even though there is competition it isn’t that grand.
So, I am going to try that later. I just need to find some.

I know the story, I think… except that bit where the characters supposed to be bickering, which is chapter 4-5ish. But I didn’t bring enough of the conflict in chapter one. I hope there is sufficient hook now, but I will see what Nick has to say if he has a chance for a re-read.
I will also be thinking about how to give the main character that sexy embittered vibe vs just unlikable jerk from the start, but I will aim to pour out the first 10K or so before doing any fine-tuning.
That’s if Nick’s on-board with the hook.

Congrats on being published! 
When you were querying, were you intentionally seeking out smaller publishers or it just so happened that the publisher you decided to go with wasn’t a “major” publisher? Just curious. But wow, less than a year to publish - that’s fast.

Honestly no haha. I wasn’t even “properly querying”. I’d just finished the 3rd major edit and saw someone else on Wattpad had gone with them, so looked at their website. I guessed they were small as they specialise in romance and they dont require an agent, so I just went for it. I was shocked when they came back and said tentative July. It’s crazy!

I was watching the trailer for Arcane on Netflix and I’m thinking, that’s what I’m writing! My world is just as cool. 
But then I realized that so far, the coolness factor in my story has been so much in the background, it’s barely visible.
And I’m not sure how to bring it all to the surface without losing track of the emotional story I’m telling.
I don’t know, maybe I can’t do both at the same time. Maybe I need to finish the story as is and return later to add more coolness factor on top of it because I’m sure the two don’t exclude each other.
I’m torn if I want to watch Arcane. On the one hand, it counts as genre research and it looks like it might be fun to watch.
On the other hand, I don’t want it to impact my world too much. I don’t want to create a copy of someone else’s world. I like what makes my worldbuilding different and special.
And back to the first hand, genre research matters. If I claim to write in this niche but then I don’t actually know what the conventions are, readers might call me out that I’m not really writing this genre. I’m a wannabe.
And back to the other hand, I’m also afraid that if the show is as cool as the trailer makes it look, it will be really intimidating because you just can’t achieve the same wow factor in words as what an animation can do. So in my head my world looks cool but can I really do it justice?
So yeah, conflicted.
In the end, I’ll most likely watch it but I’m not sure if I should hold off and do it later.

I think putting cool factor forward is important. When I write my blurbs, the selling points of a story are front and center. So, I started to try as much as possible to bring them to the forefront in the story. That’s one thing Maass was saying in the Emotional Craft of Fiction. It’s what Nick is saying. Or at least that’s how I understand it. Cool stuff can’t be too subtle or nobody will notice it because they won’t care to dig it up

Wow, I recieved a following comment today, after putting antiwar banner (Peace for Ukraine) on my story:
The lack of pronoun used for Toshka’s name distirbed me , stop being sexist gender does exist , he / she is there for a reason even transgender fall under either he or she gender depend on what their current gender is , Gender is not a social constrict . But then again what did I expected from an author starting with sharing a banner and supporting politics of war
Toshka in question uses pronouns, I was just avoiding it in that particular paragraph because it would be unclear who ‘he’ is, Volya or Toshka…

first of all that doesn’t even make sense. you can’t be sexist and believe gender doesn’t exist. sexism requires you to acknowledge at least 2 different genders in order to decide one is better than the other.

not like ‘they’ or ‘it’ are relatively common human pronouns or anything.
Biological sex is not a social construct. Gender, however, meets the definition of ‘social construct’ because it relies on identity and perception and because it can be completely removed of the influence of ‘physical reality’ (such as in situations like this forum, where we cannot see or hear each other) and still exist. It is, in fact, an idea that can be expressed in infinite ways.

Pretty much, yes. The last incongruency is that ‘support politics of war’ comes from baffling off shoot of Putin’s propaganda that Ukraine is pro-war because it keeps fighting him. O, the audacity to defend one’s homes and families! Anyway, yeah, that’s my first troll.
But, you know, maybe more will come. I can use 10K reads
