Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 1)

I wanted hydrangeas, but the ones that would survive here are usually white or pink. So, pass until I retire and move to BC. I am in my fav weeks of the year now, because it’s irises and peonies’ time, then lilies and roses.

@MiniMoxx aww, thank you. I guess, I like fairly complex stories, so I am more into the classic structure where I see the MC first as they are, then the inciting incident happens. And I like complex MCs.

I really want to try the same thing as you are doing. Wattpad for workshopping (and stop trying anything else for gaining audience) and give a shot to radish as maybe someone will pay to read me? It also helps me with keeping less books on Wattpad, because I am tired of all them hanging on my profile like a dead weight when people rarely read them.

Speaking of Radish, how is your experiment going? Have many people read it and have you been getting any comments?

That’s exactly how I like it. I’ve been getting more into reading trad. published books recently and they don’t usually have the inciting incident until later in, and it works just fine. Most of them are by Colleen Hoover, who’s now like making ridiculous amounts of sales, so it’s got to be doing something right if famous authors aren’t writing their hooks for a couple of chapters.

I’ve made decent money on Radish, like they pay out in July and I joined in March (end of month) and I’m due about 100 USD (80 GBP) approx, and people seem to lap it up. Might be where the money is XD

Thats exactly it, I think people do forget that Trad/self published books and Wattpad are very different Wattpad might be publishing more books now, but they are a very different market. And Nick is only looking for Wattpad quick, fast paced stuff. Which is fine for that market but people seem to get the 2 mixed up. It’s probably why I don’t do brilliantly on WP, because I write trad. books without fast hooks, I tend to write in a style for publication

My story will start posting today, so I am not sure. It’s Trapped by the Mafia and I am putting it up for Free since it’s so old. I am nowhere near yet starting an exclusive story for them that I can get paid on.

I want to try one of each type. Exclusive to Radish with locked out chapters, the rest free (But Do Vampires Go to Proms???)
Start on WP, then do Freemium on Radish for the rest of it, then finalize it on WP, once it’s free on Radish (Maybe even Fireman’s Girl?)

Then, if the Tangorellos do okay, finally bestir myself to figure out what’s going on in the maze portion and write the 3rd Tangorello book exclusive for Radish. And, if that does okay, fine, I will sell my soul and do the 4th with every trope under the sun that turns my gut, but people love. Teen preg, virgin, second chance and amnesia. You can hear me rolling my eyes from where you are probably…

Also, wrote down the songs that I think might come in handy with my chapters, and lol, that’s probably the most trivial list out there, but eh. At least if I know them, everyone knows them. Save for Parole, Parole, but it fits so well with one of my chapters, that I’m going to use it if only for Delon’s smarmy seductive track on it. Overall, I want HUGE women’s voices for this book’s soundtrack with some exceptions.

What is the style of music, whatnot?

It’s whatever I know and like. I am close to amusical, so if a song gets to me, it was probably one of the most potent hits in its time or of all times. Or figure skaters love it.

Understandable. I’m other end of the spectrum, wholly (albeit casually) into music to the point where I can get immersed in some of all stuff.

Especially listening to one song while singing a totally different one. Just used to all sorts of mixes.

Of course, what’s playing in my head right now is:

And now, I’m itching for it to be sped up, something, and so someone did this mashup:

So my brain can now go back to drowning in kid’s shows.

I am doing ‘is it raining with you’ for one of the chapters

Just found an acoustic version of that. I forget how much I like her stuff, sometimes.

Yeah of course. I don’t get many views myself because I like to try new things and experiment and my stories are different from what people expect from a Wattpad one. Doesn’t mean they’re bad. Just like tradpub isn’t bad. It just has a different market like you said. Yeah exactly. Nick has been around for a while and he knows what you need to look for in a Wattpad story.

I’m sure some people will like tradpub and experimental yes but not as many. It’s still nice to get feedback on it if you can.

Yeah I will probably look at it and leave some comments to support you on Radish. It’s good you got accepted though. It’s a start and encouragement to work on a paid story.

Yes that sounds good. Trying out one of each type and seeing what happens eventually.

Yes maybe you will end up with a radish exclusive. That sounds very good. Haha if every trope sells and makes you money though is that not good?

Yeah, you just came up with a title. For what, I’m not quite sure.

Haha a marketing book?

Aww, you are nice, thanks. So far I liked their organization in themes. Instead of inventing tags, you just basically pick the ones that your story is for. Which, hopefully, means that they show it to the readers who want to read just that?

The main thing is to get out of frenzy of editing soon-ish or I won’t even remember how to write, lol!

Oh, I have the titles.

Book 3. Played by the Mafia
Book 4. Jilted by the Mafia

so that’s the least of my concerns.

Titles that come together before the story does are often a pain in my side. Lol

No problem  it is nice to encourage fellow writers when and if you can.

That sounds better because the coding and algorithm for the Wattpad tags is kinda messy. It used to be fine before they decided to use the tags instead of the genres and the Top 1000 rankings. It gets random because of that. It was good until 2018. No idea how they select tags now and what the criteria for ranking is on them. If it’s just total reads divided by votes and chapters or just for the week. Yuenrank is messed up now.

The idea of themes sounds good because yeah it seems like it has better filters and people can easily pick E.G. gay mafia or straight billionaire romance etc. that would be good.

Yeah lol I hate editing so I do as much as I can as I go along to minimise it at the end.

I am back from a bit of a break.
I won’t go into too much detail but I just needed to work on my mental health.

I can go back to writing, but I have a question.

I am not posting this online websites like WattPad or FictionPress, yet I am still wondering something.
Does each chapter need to be around the same word count or different word count?

Like if chapter one is 1,500 words while chapter two is 3,600 and chapter three is 2,700 words, is that too obvious or who the hell cares really since it is my novel?
