Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 2)

I know right? I don’t think that I’ll ever actually read it, because it’s not my cup of tea but I suppose it’s good to see something other than a corny CW/Disney+ show get all the popularity.

Definitely. Nice, nice. Hopefully it gets there soon.

It is a prequel, but I am comparing the characters from the first book to this one lol. This story takes place in 2010, and the original takes place in 2017. I hope that Adam Silvera goes into more detail about the origins of Deathcast in this and it picks up a bit more. I dunno, I find the Death Cast books fun to read.

Hear hear.

Ah I see it’s different characters. I thought it was still Mateo & Rufus but prequel. Not that I read the book. Hope you enjoy

I hope that more interesting shows that people actually like get developed, to be honest.

Yeah, this follows Orion and Valentino. Mateo and Rufus would be kids in this, lol. Like, nine or ten.

Next month is NaNoWriMo… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Hollywood likes to play it safe. At least we have It’s a Sin.

Lol that’ll be a laugh

Off-Topic: Well, it is official. I have a date and time for my job interview with the gym. I really need to practice for the upcoming interview so that I can ease my nerves. That won’t matter since I haven’t had a job interview in years.

On-Topic: I have two ideas for the third story that seem very cool and interesting that involve the Knighthood Alliance.

I am super excited for these three stories. I am also nervous for this job interview.

Nothing else to report.

I can’t wait to work on my Nano project. I just really need to finish this story. Regret starting it now, regret the whole idea of trying to get into Radish. Overall, I intend to just roll back to doing clubs and writing weird niche stores nobody reads and keeping my head down. I am not feeling like fighting it any more.

I get it. Although I do think you’re being too hard on yourself, as you have definitely managed to reach what I would call Wattpad success (it’s a jungle out there and most stories struggle to even be seen by anyone as everything is lost in the algorithm). And I feel like I go through the same cycles, like “I’m gonna try to write something to trope!” followed by a failed attempt at that as I twist the concept to make it relevant to my own interests which turns into “I’m just gonna write whatever I want!” followed by that falling even flatter (and these attempts combined turns into me having a hodge-podge of weirdass stories clogging my profile). One of these days, I hope we both can find a happy medium

I need people to keep reminding me to write

I feel that my actual Wattpad success is hanging out in the clubs, reading whatever I really like reading, stretching out toward the writers I really like and, like, just chatting with peeps about writing. I always wanted to reach audience, but I am just not doing better at it. On the other hand, I enjoy Wattpad’s competitions, books and clubs.

I just did something toward this goal: I asked my main clubs to set my book to ‘any book’, so peeps can pick whatever books instead me wasting time on strategically finding reads. I will never meet ER stats Wattpad sets out and if my new books have 0 reads, well, that’s what they deserve.

I’ve managed to write a bit more of Chapter XIX—and by “write” I mean “cut and reword a bunch of lines so that it’s shorter” it’s funny how ending up with less words in a chapter than what you started with can be considered progress, but it is in this case :joy:

And not really related to writing, but I’ve been making “copyright banners” for my stories. You know how mirror sites try to copy anything and everything from Wattpad? Well, they’re dumb enough to copy copyright notices too. Some of them are real sneaky and will change the text so that it says [insert scam site] instead of Wattpad, so I’m going to go with images instead. Here are two examples I’ve done:

The first one is a PNG with a transparent background, the second one has a solid black background.

They’re not the most eye-catching banners, but then again I’m very inexperienced when it comes to making them. The point is they get the message across and can’t be (easily) altered :relieved:

I’m open to doing them for other people’s stories too! Reply to me with your story title and book link and I can get it done, and if you want to use the title font I might be able to do that too if I have it ^-^

EDIT: Made another one, this time with a photo background instead of a plain solid color background. This took way longer than it should

If you’ve got enough books for that option, you’ve got enough books for that.

Being part of a social context that revolves around writing is definitely the big boon of Wattpad! That is what I originally wanted when I signed up, and that’s what I found.

I can’t give up on reaching those ER numbers though… (which is why I by happenstance started a paranormal story  ). I just kind of want to know if I can do it or not (coupled with some FOMO about everyone else I know seemingly getting invited).

I don’t agree with books getting the reads they deserve though, as there are so many other factors that go into which story gets picked up or not. I actually signed up to judge a contest recently, as the payment was the contestants reading 3 of your chapters, and I got a bit peeved when it turned out I couldn’t pick which story they should read (so a bunch picked up Iguanatopia… which I know is a fun story but it has no chance of making it on Wattpad so I don’t see a point in pushing it, and I also suspect the picked it because it had the shortest chapters).

Sounds like wattpad has changed a lot, in some cases hasn’t with the same discovery issues still hanging about. I haven’t written on that site for years, so it’s interesting to see how it’s staying current.

I used to be so careful about how I arrange books in clubs. But when I started my reviewing service I was actually curious which books people would pick. While other factors matter, I also feel it will let me maybe judge what I am doing better than the rest of the books. Plus, I honestly just want to avoid people having to comment on what they don’t like (and yup, that doesn’t exclude them hating my every book, but…)

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Sweet Little Birds to shortlist! It will always hold that special place for me on Wattpad. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Lol, I have like 12 or so completed books, I can’t even remember how many. Far too many tbh.

I guess I don’t really count other authors as real readers anyway, so I don’t have any illusions of them sticking around to continue reading or picking the story for any reason than what is most convenient (i.e the one with the shortest chapters) :joy: . I just have some stories I see no reason to push any more (although I keep them up for now anyway) as they’re obviously not right for the platform anyway (or I’m just not that interested in them anymore myself).

Unfortunately, I think the shortlist ship has sailed… so now I need to figure out if I even want to write the sequels and spinoffs as there seems to be no chance of this story taking off for real (it’s still my most-read WP story and it seems to have reached a stage where it can get 50-100 reads a day without me promoting it, but that’s not enough to reach the required ER numbers for Teenfiction which means sequels and spinoffs won’t reach those numbers either. So perhaps my time is better used on other stories).

Yup, me too, thought I took down one book. But I just don’t want to micromanage anything any more. Just… write what makes me happy.

i was late to work last night because i put a mirror in my room and re-discovered my irrational fear of mirrors in dark rooms :upside_down_face: had to sneaky grab it from the side and face it to the wall so i could walk past it.

also i have not written more than five sentences on any of my projects this week. but i did start making an 18-part tiktok series so if anyone wants to know what race and magic type you are based on favourite colour and zodiac, hmu in another couple days :joy:
