Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 2)

Rethinking Project Succession as something totally different.

I finally, fucking finally figured out Project Red and I am happy to say that I can start the story properly.

I am going to do this which is to continue the first draft, but not make it so long as I want to move on to the second draft.

The second draft is going to be much different than the first, but still incorporating some things from the first draft.

That’s the goal and I am so damn pleased.

You ever say “im just going to write for an hour then do the thing i really need to do.” then 5 hours disapear and realize dinner is just going to be those random fun sized candy bars you ate and the chores are put off another day because you technically were supposed to be asleep like two hours ago?

I never learned how to edit my own novels. But I always start a new draft without editing the last one.

Ugh!

I wrote a chapter summary. It was nice to do that after so long.

I have about 1000 words started for a story and while I am excited to keep writing it, I haven’t written any more since the night I started it. But on the other hand writing two short chapters to get to 1000 words in one night is still a good start so at least I’m not still trying to fill a blank page :joy:

I’m enjoying rewriting the draft in my proper image. I am not done with the prologue though.

i’m ignoring my assignments tonight to catch up on writing. it’s not going well, i’ve only written 400 words in and hour and a half. but it’s technically progress.

I finished the prologue yesterday, but I started part one, chapter one. I did some of me filming that, yet I’m not done with my sprint.

Though that doesn’t mean I am done with the chapter. I have a ways to go.

Wrote 174 words for a story that is not the one I planned on trying to write to ease myself back into writing after a year without writing anything (which will probably end up being a short story) but at least this means my brain has some creative juices flowing again?

I need to start chapter 21 at some point. I might switch gears and work on Project Succession again.

Update: I meant chapter 22. LOL!

16 days of making time to write every day, the time is flying.

Chapter 22 is going slow but good in a way, but still proceeding.

A prologue no longer serves a purpose for Project Red. So, I have to rethink what I should do for the first chapter.

So, that is the goal for me.

Guys my brother got a drum set, put it directly under my room and now my hour or two of writing time is tainted with floor rattling beginner drummer noises and his bass and guitar. Yay. :frowning:

I don’t understand why I need a prologue for this story.
Something about telling a beforehand story, makes me want to give it a try.

I can’t explain why that is, but I have to tweak the prologue then type it out.

Went back to Project Succession and I am on draft five.

I live! :tada: It’s been a while. Long story short, still writing. I’ve been swept up in the thousands of layouts happening in recent months right before the holidays and while I look for a job, I’ve reached a point in my writing journey where I realized perfection is the enemy.

The reason why I never finish something or wait to self-publish is because I keep trying to reach a level of perfection that I cannot reach, at least not consistently. In a constant state of burnout, my writing suffers and so I’ll get bursts of amazing writing but most of it is not great.

Life’s not going to change. There will always be burnout. There will never be a perfect time. And I’m not trying to hit rich like Stephen King. I just want to put my stuff out there.

And so now I’m messing with Scrivner, Canvas, and Kindle Create to create covers and put together themed poetry chapbooks. Years of poems. Some I’ve tweaked, some, to hell with it. We’ll see how it goes.

Also still working on the prequel novel to my already completed novel.

Otherwise, I’m alive! Hello to both new and familiar faces!
