Writing Retreats, if you had the money? [POLLS]

If money wasn’t an issue, would you ever take a writing retreat to a hotel or airbnb by your self or with a writer friend?

  • Yes, I would love to take a writer retreat.
  • No, I wouldn’t do that.
  • Maybe, I would.
  • I honestly don’t know if I ever would.

The point of a writer retreat, based on numerous YouTube videos is to get away for days and to get writing done with minimal distractions. You can take it at a hotel or at some nice airbnb away from your home. These people have some type of money, but if you had the money would you ever try it?

My Turn:

Yes, a thousand times yes! I’m even planning on doing so sometime in September! Nothing is planned yet, but I love the idea behind it personally. Though I cannot do it all the time, so I am planning on doing it this one time — at least until I try it again.

What are your thoughts and feelings?

If it was in a beautiful location and I didn’t have to share a room with anyone, I’d definitely consider it. ヽ(^。^)丿

Any idea where you’re going yet? Or are you still in the planning stages?

It’s still in New Jersey and will be at a hotel in another town. I haven’t paid anything yet, because I’m still planning and considering it. Though I still want to go do this for myself.

I am planning on going by myself as well, when I get the chance to go.

eh, probably not. I don’t have the money for it anyways.

I’m most comfortable at home, alone. Or in a familiar location for a couple hours. It’s too much to have to deal with an unfamiliar environment and wearing my People Mask and loose schedule for more than a day. I would be anxious and exhausted and probably cry

No, I totally get that! I would feel the same way too! I had to heavily mask too before medication.

That’s understandable.

I’m curious how medication has relieved your masking?

I’m on three medications.

Adderall, Lexapro, and Abilify.

The medications keeps a stable and sane. I’ve noticed that I am getting outside more and able to converse more.

If money wasn’t an obstacle, I’d definitely go on a writing retreat. I hate that I have no time to write lately because I have to worry about school and work. Having the time and financial security to just go away and write sounds like a dream.

Depends. I never get any writing done on writing retreats. My department organises one every year for “staff enrichment”. We went to a monastery and got super drunk last time :man_shrugging:

i would as when in college i went on hikes or went into some of the wooded areas near the campus. its really nice to get away sometimes, its why I’ve had a few days where I’ve left my laptop at home and didn’t write so I could recharge. If I had the money id probably get a cabin that acted as my writing space, having it on skis so I could move it to better locations depending on season. i actually was thinking about doing this already

Even if you went on one by yourself?

Yes, it does!

Cabins make the writing experience cozy enough.

Do you ever write a the library for a bit when you aren’t dealing with school? Is it primarily at home?
