I have the beginnings of a plot! I’m trying to keep it concise to minimize the scope, and I think actually that the whole book might happen within just one day (half a day possibly).
I really don’t want to go much over 20k. It is so much easier to edit a little novella. And I don’t need a big project right now anyway. Got plenty of those already. 
So the next step is: brainstorm character ideas.
My MC’s new frenemy is a major character. I need to figure her out. So far I know her motivation but nothing else. I’m thinking her name will be Lily just because I was looking at a lily flower. Unless a new name comes to me.
And I need ghosts for the hunt. I’m thinking 6. 4 of them need to have a solid personality. Remaining 2 can be forgettable.
And the Grim Reaper, basically just need an archetype. I’m leaning towards the bored bureaucrat that doesn’t care but it’s not exactly original. That’s been done to death. Get it? To death? 
Maybe I’ll look at tv tropes to give me ideas.
In other news, I’m coming down with a cold or something. I did an extra covid test at work (we test weekly) just in case. Results are usually in by the end of the day so I should find out soon enough. So anyway, when I get home, I just want to take a nap so I don’t expect to make much progress tonight.

So now the question is which character should have this trait. The Reaper or Lily? I think it would be funnier with the Reaper because you’d expect someone serious.

I wrote a quick blurb earlier today and now I’m thinking wow that’s shit. I’m going to try and write at least a bit of the first chapter and see if by doing that I can think of a better blurb.

I have Death who is usually pretty silent and serious but Umbrum has a special gift of making them explode in rage. Mostly because Umbrum ended up breaking several laws of the universe, like creating life before the Big Bang could occur, meaning that Death had to show up several billion years too early, and that the life Umbrum made was artificial, so Death could not do the one thing they are meant to do.

I’m torn between the desire to keep a fast posting schedule to receive comments and feedback, since if writing lives exclusively on my computer it doesn’t receive feedback, and the knowledge the Wattpad algorithm rewards temperance and patience.

I’m usually torn about this for other reasons. I always want to hear feedback immediately but it tends to make me overthink things and question everything, so it’s counterproductive when I’m writing the first draft.
But you’re right about the algorithms.
In other news, I have a name and a face to the story’s antagonist. Sorry, girl. But Lily doesn’t fit your gorgeous face. Your name is now officially, Melody Kostas.
Having a visual is such a help. Now looking at her I can see that she’s independent and she’ll stop at nothing to get what she wants. She has high standards for everyone, including herself. And a cat. A black cat called Sofia. She looks like she would be a party girl or an eye candy but she’s actually bookish and introverted. She’s smart and she knows it. She has no patience for idiots and mansplainers. She gets very offended if someone calls her a fake.
Good. Now she’s got a character.
Next up. I need 6 ghosts.

Well, I wrote 1,494 words today. 1,269 of those words are part of the prologue and first chapter. The others are from planning out characters and settings.
I still don’t have any ideas for a better blurb. But, I did give access to my discord to help me out with the blurb and catching things in what I’ve written so far. Although, to be honest, my brain was so mush that I didn’t even do my usual round of editing for what I have of chapter one.

My off-Wattpad readers said “everything looks great, curious what the Wattpadians will say,” which is great, but now I’m still waiting for engagement here or even a single sign someone’s, well, read what I’ve written. It’s a bit disheartening seeing everyone post their works at the same time and see some already pull ahead of the pack. Though I suppose it’s not a race.
I hope we’re able to do some sharing on this forum in these next few days.

Okay, just need to get caffeinated and finish some reading, then I am off to the races. With the first chapter of the ‘I have to write it’ project out of the way (and 2K for that matter) I plan to dedicate the weekend to writing the mafia story, the project I wanted to do all along for this ONC

I’ll have to look over the prompts and see which ones fit stories that are sitting in my “graveyard” aka would like to write this some day but no idea what to do with it/needs research folder.

Really, the hard part is “chapter 2”, in which the God comes to life on the midst of that chaos.
- Had to confirm the evacuation time of 7 WTC (building that collapsed late in the day) where Tang dynasty pottery was lost. (They left before the tower collapsed due to recent evacuation training: meaning everyone was out within an hour, they were only half full at the time, and no lives were lost in that building.)
The first chapter is just the priestess coming in contact with the urn, wasn’t even 600 words to cover that.
Then after that, it’s going to be a few chapters of the God figuring himself out and the turmoil of the kid’s family before he becomes the kindergarten teacher for her class the next year.

Dreams are supposed to be just that, but for high school student Olivia, they’re all too real. Struggling with the pressures of everyday life, Olivia discovers she has the ability to manipulate her dreams.
Excited by her newfound power, she uses it to her advantage, impressing her friends and acing her classes. But as she starts to notice her actions in the dream world affecting her real life, she’s torn between giving up her powers or keeping them. When a coin flip forces her to make a decision, she starts to understand the consequences of her powers and the responsibility that comes with them. Will she choose to keep her powers and use them for good, or will she give them up and live a normal life?
I wrote 2 chapters so far (2,116 words)
