Thank you so much! I love it ![]()

You’re welcome!
and thank you for being really patient especially at the start ![]()
I thought you might find this cool, but I also made a mockup of all the three covers side by side ![]()
I love how they go so well together ![]()
Getttt outttt!!! Those are amazing omg
They look so good I, like, need them on my bookshelves ![]()
![]()
Btw, I have 2 more to torment you with lol, but those are very far away and I still need to figure the last one out
The fashion plate website is bugging out ![]()
Then with all 5 that’s the next few years of my life all sorted out ![]()
![]()
I totally get that!
That’s me with my current trilogy—I didn’t settle on a title for the second book until a few months ago, and I had been working on this since… 2021?
bounced between Blood Will Boil, Blood Be Shed, Blood and Thunder, Thicker Than Water, and finally settled on… Blood Runs Cold.
Good thing I’m still only halfway done with the first book ![]()
Feel free to apply any time, whenever you’ve figured them out ![]()
The struggle is real!
But, sometimes, stories just need to marinate in our brains until everything clicks
The series I’m writing now is a concept I actually came up with in 2013-2014 ![]()
It just be like that sometimes ![]()
Thank you for letting me know! ![]()
I’ll put in my request shortly! (might be awhile, working on a few things and fixing to get some sleep!)
if you insist
I’m gonna put one of the requests in before I forget lol, but if MissCatLatte comes along, you can do hers first! I can literally wait until next year ![]()
✬ Title: The Sleuthing Cat
✬ Author Name: Maria Killjoy
✬ Ideas (please be specific):fashion plate silhouette with an Edinburgh landmark behind her (probably Edinburgh Castle?)
✬ Genre (optional): Historical mystery
Short summary
In 1897 newly widowed but also newly independent Kitty has started her own private detective agency, and is summoned to Scotland to investigate the suspicious murder of a Marquessinspo pics (optional)
I would prefer a black/purple colour theme for this one, purple was also a colour that Victorian women could wear later on in the mourning stage.I would love either this suit, great colour and style and everything:
OR, if you can change the red to purple, this one is my favourite! that attitude ![]()
as for the background, I think Edinburgh castle is the most iconic and easy to use as a backdrop…there might also be Calton Hill, with all the monuments. or the Scott Monument, which is a very Edinburgh thing, and right next to the train station which Kitty arrives in the city by.
however, important note here - the Balmoral hotel (with the iconic clock tower that appears in a lot of Edinburgh skyscapes) did not yet exist in 1897 but now it’s an ubiquitous symbol of Edinburgh
so that’s why I mean the Edinburgh Castle might be easier to use. I think this view from the Vennel might be a popular one lol: https://thirdeyetraveller.com/the-vennel-edinburgh-photography-guide-castle-view/
but, you know I’m not picky, so whatever works is great!
Payment will be to read the next three chapters of Blood Will Tell, so that’d be XI, XII, and XIII. No rush! ^-^
Looks a little rough, but I’ll get it cleaned up later. I was going for a darker purple that leans a little more blue than red, but lemme know if you’d like a different shade! ^-^
Ohhhhhhh the placement and the background are perfect!
as always ![]()
I think maybe a little lighter purple?
To make the sky look like dusk or something? I really don’t know colours lol. But at the same time…with the background so busy, the white title feels a bit difficult to read. I’m torn!
What do you think would be better to make the title pop? At the end of the day, my main concern is that people can easily read it, the rest of the aesthetics will no doubt look good either way ![]()
(btw, there’s a small typo - correct is slEuthing, not slUething)
I was struggling a little with this myself
I originally positioned the background image to be lower, but then ran into the problem of the lamp coming in between the title ![]()
I guess I could shrink the background further
although that might mean the silhouette would have to be smaller to keep the proportions at least somewhat realistic, like noticeably smaller than the silhouettes on the other covers.
I suppose I can position the background so that the top of the lamp is below the title instead of above ![]()
I’ll try experimenting with contrast and brightness a little more to make it work! Admittedly I’m better at coloring with a separate app (PhotoScape X) than Photoshop ![]()
I’ll tinker around with positioning though and see what works best before I build off that ![]()
Ah, looks like my sleep deprivation has shown itself ![]()
If there’s any other background that’s easier for you to use, feel free to go with that! I do love how her purple dress turned out, though, she looks so badass
take your time! I’m happy with whatever works ![]()
I also wonder…if you could keep her and the sky purple…but make everything else a bit more normal colours…could that do anything?
I looked at it again, and the great thing about the Paris cover for instance was that the silhouette was not all red. But in this case the dress has to be purple. So, idk, just rambling out loud!
Also (me again lol), if it helps, I have a couple of alternative fashion plates which could maybe aid with the colour thing in case the other one doesn’t work out.
Lady with the dog (including the dog maybe? it’s too cute
)
And this girlie with a bit of white and black to her purple
LE (sorry
) - this fountain (Ross Fountain) is another great view of the castle, and potentially less busy?
Or this bad boy, called the Scott Monument:
LE 2 - I just read the description for the last one and it’s apparently a historic photograph?? It did seem to me that the people on the benches are dressed a little old-timey, but damn!
What an exciting little discovery ![]()
I also want to say that I’m not ignoring you or this request, life’s gotten much busier lately and I’ve been feeling more tired the past couple of weeks ![]()
That’s all right, you take care 🩷 And take your time!
I’ve actually been obsessed with my historical Unsplash find so I’m glad I looked ![]()

apparently a few other libraries/institutions have got accounts and are sharing photos from their archives! The best rabbit hole lmao
