But as far as ability for someone to shove things on your head, we don’t need a brain chip for that. A Wired article (tech mag) that is hard enough to find was on the fact that the US military already has the ability to project sounds that only the reciever can hear–without the reciever wearing gear. A decade back, now?

And people used to hear radio stations with their metal fillings even before that.

So, basically… it’s set in an alternative timeline where a Massive, Eternal, Apocalyptic, Worldwide Winter started in 1886. It started as a series of weird weather anomalies, such as cold in summer, snow, in Sweden, Norway, etc. Rain in South America and the Sahara. Weird, huh?

It got worse and worse…

And then the temperature of the world started to slowly drop below zero until it did, it dropped drastically to -20°C / -04°F, so the Ocean Froze, and so the warm climate countries collapsed, snowstorms started to fall in the entire world, never-ending snow. Britain started to build generators to keep the population alive, and after the generators were complete, they evacuated the population using Land Ships. Now people have to build Generator-Cities, and you control one of those Generator-Cities. New London

I guess they model the idea off the Little Ice Age, which has 2 characteristics: volcanic eruption from hell (Krakatoa, I believe) and less sun spots. One of which is a high carbon emission event.
