speaking of which. you might want to look into programming in cults. it’s not really commonplace knowledge but it’s the epitome of ICK. the rest I will hide because ho boy it’s more than potentially triggering.

Summary
Programming is the intentional creation of parts with specific tasks by abusers. As in, the abuser knows about the DID/OSDD or is trying to create DID/OSDD in a child. It is a very extreme form of abuse. Having an alter that is, say, an abuser introject is not programming. Neither is having a part that is influenced by an abuser’s thoughts/etc.
It’s used especially in folks dissociative identity disorder to create ‘commands’ that they cannot disobey through extreme trauma in an organized setting.

eee i didn’t know that, I’m gonna put that in my notes for a different wip for sure, I have an mc(s) with DID.
i didn’t plan on any of the central characters in my cult wip having DID, but I honestly don’t know much about osdd so i might have to look into it. it’s icky but programming would fit one or two characters’ storylines really well.
