I slacked on writing over the weekend, so I think I’m going to turn it around today and get some short writing sprints in. Goal: 1-2 hours of accumulated writing sprints.
Also, yesterday I decided to pull up ywriter6. Haven’t touched it in years, and no one seems to know what it is anymore 
but it’s basically a free and ugly/boring Scrivener. It’s been helpful with keeping all my world building stuff organized as of yesterday lol. I’m looking forward to playing with it again.

I about rofl’d, because he is actually one of the shyest guys in the lot. His first interviews were impossible to hear, he was so quiet. He is actually unintentionally hilarious too when he is trying not to give the enemy anything, like a resistance fighter.
“Andrei, why did you fall on that triple Axel?”
“I don’t know. I entered in fine, opened up fine, then, lo! I’m lying down.”

“Andrei, what do you like doing in your free time, when you are not skating?”
“Not skating…” blinks obviously taken by surprise by this hard to anticipate question. “I go for a walk sometimes?”
Anyway, his team and him handled the slight with great dignity, but if the other two guys happen to skate poorly, I wouldn’t complain.
So, I finally finished the chapter. It turned out to be 4K words, so I only posted the first half and will work a little bit more on the concluding scene after doing some reading. I would like to post it tomorrow if I can. Time to be back to writing and conquer my own goals. And hope for the best for my other favs who did make the cut for Europeans and Olympics!

Yeah, skaters are all different. Some of them are super-artistic, others manage academic achievements in prestigious programs along with world titles, but some are like this guy. He saw his sister do figureskating at age 4. He wanted to do figureskating (she is a dancer now iirc). He went to the same sports school from early age. He has the same coach/choreographer from that school for years. He is in the college to become a coach in figure skating. He likes playing piano, but had to drop it by age six, because… guess what? Figure skating. I basically see him becoming a coach in that very sports’ school in a few years’ time.

He looks so young. He was doing so well. I physically felt it when he fell but strangely enough after the big fall he seemed to have allowed himself to have more fun. Less pressure if you know you’re not getting the first place? What do you think?
It’s so strange to watch figure skating without an audience, like watching his private practice.
Figure skating is such a unique category since it demands inhuman perfection but also an artistic flair. So it’s like the skaters are the perfect artists and the perfect athletes. They’ve surpassed the ordinary humans. Imagine having to judge someone’s perfection. Who’s qualified for that?

It’s the same program, but it is tiniest competition at the start of the season, where he is tentative at best. He won gold there, and the fall on 4S was pretty much expected at that point.
The one from France was his PB skate, no falls. Here is the one from Russia, the one that won him bronze (he falls on 3A in the very end) I hope it’s not geoblocked! Oh, how they get up from those falls is insane. Yeah, he is 18 now, going on 19, been watching him grow up since he was 16.

Okay, figure skating drama aside, I finished editing the second part of the chapter, all ready to post it tomorrow. So, I should be able to start the next chapter, which is the final conflict and obstacle to my main keeping his promise to his Love Interest. I am really curious to see if I actually can finish the main story line before (or at least on) January 1 st? Gotta go sleep and attack the next chapter tomorrow!

Off topic:
I finally figured out why Greek gods and deities in general kill humans when a human catches sight of them in their divine/true form.
It is so obvious. It is because they’re ridiculously hot.
Take the hottest thing in the universe and multiply it infinite times.
What you get is a deity with an aura and appearance so powerfully strong that it literally Incinerates the human.
Sure, the deities have bizarre and incomprehensible forms that leaves a human left speechless and the obviously dead. But imagine seeing an intensely terrifying being that kill you the moment you glance at it, you simply cannot.
So, the deities are scorching and extremely hot to the point that mere mortals burn to death.
Please Note: This is merely me being silly and don’t take it seriously.

Finished my readings for today. Posted the chapter. I reviwed planned material, and it logically falls into 3 chapters. I don’t know which length, but if I manage to see each one to completion per day, I will have rough draft (at least) by January 1st. Gonna give it my best!

I’ve been thinking about attempting the ONC this year, but I haven’t made up my mind yet.
Like, 1) it sounds like a fun challenge and I miss writing novellas since they’re so simple and fun, 2) I wouldn’t have to wait a year or more before I post another book on Wattpad, and 3) it would be a cool way to experiment with a different genre or story telling style than I normally do. And you all just have such great things to say about it so I’m curious why xD
But, there’s a lot of cons, too, and I don’t know if the pros out weigh them. But I also feel like most of the cons are self-imposed goals I’ll have to abandon, but I guess they don’t necessarily need to happen? Lol. So I don’t know yet. I might just wait until I see the prompts before I decide to join or not this year.

Yes, take a look at the prompts. What I do every year, is read the prompts and see if any of the ideas on my back burner list fits the prompts. It gives me a push to actually write something I wouldn’t have otherwise written. But, last year, I actually wrote from scratch, though I had a concept that fit a prompt. That concept, though, was very ‘for myself’ vs ‘for others’. I love the novel that I ended up with!
Aside from the already mentioned atmosphere of healthy competition, creating together and reading each-other, what I value about the ONC the most is that for me it starts the writing year and gives me a necessary break before editing for Watty entries. It really structures my year around those two events.
I also read other people’s novellas and pick my own winners from what I have read and learn from them. My top 3 last year were very close to what the judges decided (notwithstanding a couple of novellas that got cut in the first round that i loved) so it makes me think that I at least have an instinct in how a good book should be, even if I can’t produce it yet.
Also, yes, trying a different genre is a fantastic idea.

Ohh I like the idea of using the prompts to push you to work on back burner ideas. That sounds like a great way you use the contest! I have a couple of those that I could try out maybe if there’s a prompt for it.
That’s also another great perk to the contest that I hadn’t thought about! It sounds like a great reading community. I feel like I could read a few of them because they’re shorter, and I could even read genres I don’t normally pick up because they’re shorter and more compact. It’d be a cool way to learn more about different story telling strategies and so forth.
This contest sounds really cool xD I don’t really want to put my new WIP on the back burner while I complete another book, because I worry about getting back to it afterwards, but it might be a fun break and experiment to do anyway.

That’s also my plan. There’s this snail story I’ve wanted to write (you didn’t misread that - a snail story) but I don’t have a plot for it yet. I’d love to do an ONC for it as long as one of the prompts work for my snail MC. 
(Their name is Bezel and they’re the sleaziest snail in the whole universe)
Last year I had a similar plan. I had a cool character and the beginnings of a story idea. ONC gave me the prompt to take that idea to the next step. It turned out that I strayed quite far from the original idea and my draft two is even more unrecognizable but the end result is a great story so all’s good. So the original character I was supposed to write still hasn’t been written. Still waiting for a story to cast him in.

Heh, maybe not push, an excuse. I am always afraid to start a new story, because of my high failure rate to secure readership. this way, it’s ONC, so it comes with read 4 reads and, like, I don’t question why I even wrote this story if nobody ever reads it.
So they’re so pretty that they’re eldritch abominations. Yeah, this checks out.

Something I will never understand is why The West(US especially) doesn’t have silly slice-of-life shows aimed towards teenage girls, for all the talk of feminism and complaining about how teenage girls aren’t allowed to enjoy things.
You would think that a show about 11th grade girls dicking around would appeal to the teenage girl market, but I guess that there’s big cultural disconnect between Japan and the US if Lucky Star aired around the same time as Gossip Girl.
I just can’t comprehend why, outside of executives dictating what gets made.
