Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 1)

David is his older brother. He’s the fun one.

David would rather watch paint dry than live his brother’s life.

So you make him do it anyway, but have him complain about how paint drying is better than that, the whole way. It’s called punishment for annoying the writer.

I’d rather kill the writer…

Ha!

I’ve made some weird ass character relations here.

I noticed. I can somewhat relate, but I tend towards epic seriousness a bit too much.

All my characters are a mess, but it wouldn’t be a Churrovers novel if they weren’t right?

You wouldn’t be you.

I wonder what a Churroverse Romance would look like lol.

Depends on if you’re “playing it straight” or effing around.

But real-world romance is often annoying the tar out of your partner then laughing about it together, so I don’t know if “pis” would change the nature of your writing style. Lmao

I’ve already failed at that :joy: ! Jokes aside, I think this is gonna be stupid to an extent.

Yeah, lol. David is a troll, Vicente is a yap and Alejandro is amused by them both.

In this case, it wasn’t meant as heteronormative. It was meant as plain vanilla.

I know, I was kidding about the “playing it straight” thing.

I am working out the plot loosely at the moment.

You’re approaching it very logically. Kudos to you.

I’m getting another entry ready for him. I’m not working on that project right now but who knows for how long Nick does this. Might as well get his opinion while I can.

Exactly! If I had my heart set on my third novel, I would submit it too. I am my own editor and I don’t have any background or inroads into the industry. Once I decide on the book, I will be asking for as much input on chapter one as possible before setting in on writing it. Yes, even if it’s contradictory. I need other eyes on it. Desperately.

Why?

Because chapter 1 truly makes or breaks the book and sets the rest of the book on the rails. It has to be easy to understand and immersive with a character people want to read about. Without those first 1.5K words, the other 100K are pointless.

No pressure. :joy:

At least we get endless kicks at that can, right? Like, my poor wronged darling’s figure skater single trip in France back in October and single underrotation a week ago cost him a trip to Euros, Olympics, Worlds… if he skates another competition this year, no matter how small, damn, that’s pressure.

Omg, the last chapter is done, so just the last snapshot/Epilogue is left! I will try to start drafting today after I stretch my wrists a little, lol!

OMG OMG OMG OMG

Okay, do not ever underestimate your fans. You never know.

Remember how I said I got tipped by my one and only tipping fan?

Since I was on the kofi site to send him a thank you note, I updated my page to show my current goal: to buy a writing software (I’m about 99.9% convinced to buy Campfire and now I’m even partially funded!)

And then I get another message.
He tipped me again and double.
:exploding_head:

He must have noticed that I updated my goal (the earlier one was just a generic “website expenses”). And OMG, I was not expecting that.

To give you some context, the highest read count on my stories is 20k. I am by no means a popular author.

But it takes only one fan out of a thousand…

I’ve never asked my readers to tip me. I don’t heavily advertise it that they can. It’s just a line in my bio and a button on my website. It feels weird to ask for it, but maybe the trick is not in asking for it but in making your financial goals public? Could it really be that simple?

I have to think about this. There might be an opportunity here I’ve been missing out on.

Do you have fans that support you? Did you initiate it or did they just start doing it on their own?

I still need a type of answer because I cannot choose which is better for my character Faust.
I am at a loss here.
