Struggling Writers’ Daily Den: rant, share, complain, ask, daily progress thing (Part 1)

Finally updated my main project, and officially passed 50k words!

Will continue focusing on my ONC entry (which sits at 10k words), but switching to my main helped with motivation, oddly enough.

That’s an epic wordcount! Wow, it sounds like you are having a blast with it.

@NatilladeCoco woo-hoo on making it past the 50K treshold and good luck with the ONC!

And… 61.5K total today. Not much, but I keep being distracted by my ONC

Still in the planning stage but I am content because at the moment I am working on the chapter summaries for my story.

And… yay! I have just finished the personal drama chapter at 62.6K. Which means, it’s finale time! Okay, so maybe it’s not going to be the classic 5 point finale, but it’s still pretty meaty with what I have planned, so I am pretty hyped for it.

Then I can focus on editing my three Watty entries for this year.

I haven’t been really productive in the last few days, mostly because I have to catch up with all my homework and because I’m still figuring out the best way to approach my newest chapter. I tried working on my side-projects, mostly the oceanside zombie apocalypse story, but I’m really struggling to start it, mostly because I feel like I’m re-treading a lot of the same themes as my current WIP and beginnings and introducing characters are my least favorite things to do in a story.

I’m writing an older person getting someone younger to tell them certain things without them realizing that they’re being interrogated. It’s a situation that I wouldn’t know how to handle if it happened to me in real time, so I’m having to take my time coming up with something that both makes sense and highlights the older person’s wisdom. I’ve been stuck on the same paragraph since yesterday.

Argh, not my favourite part of a story either, so kudos for sticking with it, and get that ball rolling.

@Moonless-Nights you’ll get there :innocent:

What’s the best website for posting things and getting feedback? Wattpad is making me :rage: as of late.

I like Tapas, but dunno what kind of feedback you want. It’s great for getting people to check stuff out, but they are not going be leaving you long reviews.

Tapas isn’t working much either I’m trying.

Does anyone know when/where the results for the onc round one qualifiers will be announced?

So, I’ve been struggling with this one part in my Novella and I think I’m coming to the realization that it needs to be cut. It really isn’t working as I want it to, and maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe it’s telling me to cut it for the greater good of the story.

Just put it into a separate file, and see how it looks?

I was doing a lot of scattered work today, editing my ONC draft for posting the last bit, editing the werewolf YA story for Watty Bootcamp first workshop and finally managed to write a little in the WIP, that I want to finish in draft before editing YA werewolf…

I got to the point of fighting the last battle and it’s at 63.3K. Unfortunately, I still have a too vague idea on what happens in stage 1 of the fight, so tomorrow is going to suck.

there are wattpad clubs/communities where you can ask for reviews from other authors.
I recently joined Dreamland community (I don’t know much about how they work yet, but members on there would be willing to give reviews, I’m pretty sure)

aaaaa I wanna improve my writing, but I’m really not feeling like writing a book right now. I wanna publish things and get feedback so I can grow, but
it’s gonna take a loooong while before I think any of my stories are publish-worthy ;-; (every time I wanna publish, I see everything wrong with it and see ways I can improve it–which is good for me because my writing just gets better-- but mmMMMmmm)
I just wanna write a lot of different things and explore stuff I haven’t tried before, so I don’t get stuck in the same placeeee

Hm, maybe. I’ll see how it works.

Start with short stories, even flashfiction. Yes, you will not find readership, but feedback on a 500 words story is by far easier to find than on a 100K words novel, and it teaches you how to write a great chapter.

Welp… I spent all day yesterday rushing around to take care of things so I would have time to write today, but it’s 5:30 am and my day was already stolen by something else. :disappointed_relieved:

I really wish life had a pause button.
