⚠️ Writing Site Shutdown, Pending Forum Closure ⚠️

I do know a lot of older authors. They might be interested, but I just checked the Adult Den and it hasn’t been very active  Personally, if I see a part of a forum that’s not too active, well, it makes me wonder why it’s still around. Maybe it needs revamping?

I guess you need writers who want to talk about adult den stuff. What do you talk about on there? I’m an adult, but I haven’t even visited

Thanks. That happened last year

I can provide graphics and support  I’m also managing my own account, so :stuck_out_tongue:

Now I’m gonna cry. :sob:

This has been the greatest escape and connection since the Wattpad forums closed and I’m always itching to come over and talk to everyone, even though it gets slow.

I’m sorry the money has ran out with time, effort, etc. for running the website stretching thin. :sadhug: Everything is so expensive and it’s so unfair.

I only use this forum and the NaNoWriMo forums when it comes to interacting with other writers… and if this place goes, I feel like a massive tear will rip through my heart.

The idea is that it’s 18+ so nothing is censored. I know :hot_pepper: spicy :hot_pepper: romance novels are a topic of conversation there when conversation does happen lol. We still don’t allow things like abusive behavior or the namecalling or those kinds of rules we enforce across the rest of the forum, we just don’t care if they talk about things we’d rather not put in front of minors. (I know it’s the internet but I care, darn it lol)

Haha I was mostly kidding. :joy: The graphics offer is very helpful though, thank you!

I know

But when I heard about the potential shutdown, I was like “this can’t happen again. Not again. Not like figment. Why do the good things have to shutdown?” Makes me want to do something about it.

I think I’ve visited once or twice. I don’t usually have a need to talk about adult stuff and that’s why I didn’t go out of my way to see what was going on there.

I respond if people put stuff. I mostly just post adult jokes in the smut dungeon or snippets of writing to see how it is going. And the adulting post when things are just too much and I won’t post that in front of family or my kids did something rediculous. I don’t mess with the roleplay games.

It’s very sad to see it come to this. Whilst I can’t offer financial support, I am more than happy to offer some marketing or design guidance if needed. I’m glad to see you raised the amount needed to keep it going for a while longer - this is a really nice place and it’d be a horrible loss to see it go :frowning:

This is a lovely offer, thank you! We’re brainstorming ways to be more engaging while not overloading any one individual.

Yes! I’ll be keeping a tally up though (maybe in the footer?) so users know where we are monetarily.

That’s awesome. I wish you the best of luck and I really hope you can figure some ideas out! You know where I am if you need <3

And keeping it in the footer would be a great idea, too. Everyone can reference it if they need to

Oop I had no idea :joy:

All’s good!

That’s a good question :joy: There just haven’t been as many older writers around, to chat about mortgage payments or how to write erotica lol. We want to keep the forum PG-13 because to be completely honest, aspiring teen writers are probably our biggest audience group, but also wanted to carve out a nook for some potentially NSFW topics. It’s just a low-activity issue. But you’re right, maybe it could be trimmed down a bit.

Oh dear…

I’ve fully enjoyed being here, and this is sad news indeed. I wish I could donate, but funds just say reach my own needs these days. You have all been very welcoming, and this site has been a godsend for many here.

Thank you so much CJ, and the whole Admin Team for all you have done.

It’s been so long since I popped by here and it is so sad to see this loving community in such dire circumstances. I wish I can do something to help, but money is tight here. Thank you so much to the mods for being so proactive and doing their very best. I really hope Wacky continues on; it really is an incredible forum.

I love this site a lot, I sadly do not have the funds to donate as I’m a full-time student atm and cannot afford to use much money… However I will be spreading the word out, and I really hope this site will not close down as it’s the only forum-site that I use time from time

Getting the word out definitely helps us! :purple_heart:

Thank you everyone for your support! Anything helps at this point

And not to put anyone on the spot, but if you had the possibility to donate and chose to support us in that way, we do have a small token of appreciation we can give you – that is the beautiful heart :beautifulheart: badge! If you have donated, but have not received the badge and would like one, shoot us a DM @moderators and we’ll assign it to you!

Thanks again to all of you!! We appreciate every single one of you

I definitely second @alcoholandcaffeine’s and @DollyTH’s posts:

If you can’t donate (which is totally okay, everything’s tight everywhere right now!), inviting others to come to the forum helps significantly with ad revenue. If you HAVE donated and didn’t get a badge, PLEASE let us know (I’ve been remiss in handing them out, so please remind me).

Especially with the way other social media platforms are these days (especially Twitter), if you have friends there or places like Instagram in the writing community, please encourage them to join. Many Twitter users are looking for alternatives right now, especially in the writing community, and Wacky Writers is specifically designed for them.

I’m open to running an invite contest (we have only 2 users with the rare “Social Butterfly” badge, and we can definitely do that again for incentive). We’re funded now through March.

I am looking into options for “premium” features, such as designing your own personal theme for the forum, but there are already some things like getting specialized personalized text options like this that we can utilize also.

I’ve seen mentions of putting up the ad banners for our featured lists again. We can do that, it just takes some time and effort to design each one. I’m open to allowing users to pay for relevant ad space for their books or personal sites (such as your self-published works or author websites).

If anyone has other ideas, we are ALWAYS open to that and feedback. Some things may not be feasible based on the size of the team, but we are open to bringing on new mods/team members if you have the time to spare helping us out.

“Donating” can refer to more than just money: if you’re willing to donate your time or expertise to helping us keep the forum running, we absolutely want to know about it. Graphics, merch design ideas (with credit to you of course), social media expertise, even if you want to submit writing-related blogs, we’re open to all of that. If you’re friends with published authors or anyone in the publishing world (agents/editors), the more “verified” people we can entice over, the better.

Thank you so much everyone for your love and support. We want to keep going as long as we can, because we love this community, and as others have mentioned, we’re open to long-term solutions. :beautifulheart:

Hey CJ… I’ve donated, I hope it helps.

I have enjoyed having a forum presence again, and would really like to see the forums continue.

I am bummed about the main site, because I liked the interface there, but completely understand where you’re coming from. I hope that you get enough monetary support for the forum to continue!

Unfortunately I’m not in a position to donate money at the moment—I’m start uni next year; saving’s my biggest priority—but if Wacky were to start up some sort of Instagram writing account for things like writing tips and tricks/networking/contest advertising I’ve got some experience pulling together the written content for posts like that (though graphic design is NOT a strong suit of mine.) There’s a fairly active community of young writers looking for advice on Instagram, so I feel like that would be a good place to draw people in.

I’m not sure how much I could help with this next suggestion, but would it be worth starting a Patreon? Offering things like edits/critiques, special stickers and emojis, ad space, maybe a slight merch discount etc. for a monthly fee.
